Effectiveness
While Sassoon’s influence on Owen was very effective they still are greatly different from each other. Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon are two talented war poets who meet each other in a hospital near Edinburgh both suffering from shell shock. Shell shock is psychological disturbance caused by prolonged exposure to active warfare. Owen was a few years younger than Sassoon which made it look like Sassoon was a mentor to Owen. Sassoon had college education at Marlborough and Clare College but did not take a degree. Owen was not educated to the level that Sassoon was. Owen actually became increasingly critical of the Church’s role in society. Owen has a much clever way with his word choice. Sassoon on the other hand writes his …show more content…

They are similar because they both talk directly about their war experiences. The poem “Dulce Et Decorum Est” is directly from a war experience that Owen had. The word enhances the line which makes it clear to what he is saying. Another feature to Owen’s writing skills is that he uses Latin in his work. In the poem “Disabled” he says, “Esprit de corps; and hints for young recruits” (35). This is a major factor to all of the success in his poems. The ability to draw in the reader from different angles of his work is something Sassoon does not do as well as Owen. I feel that Owen does smaller parts of his work better than Sassoon that makes a
