Do you own a computer? What kind of computer is it? Is it a Microsoft PC, running Windows Vista? Or is it an Apple Macintosh running Mac OS X? Using a PC can be such a hassle. Macintosh computers are so much better and easier to use than a PC. Macs also are better for the planet, have a longer lifespan, have more reliable hardware, are less likely to crash or get viruses, have better security features, it’s very easy to transfer all your files from a PC to a Mac, and a Mac can be a PC if you really wanted it too. But I will explain that last one later.
First, I will tell you about how the build of the Macintosh computer is a big reason of the rapid growth of Macs. In 2007, 2008, and 2009, Apple’s Macbook, Macbook Pro, and I-Mac (their top 3 selling computers) have all received EPEAT Gold medals. EPEAT is a company based on trying to make the electronic world greener. A gold medal from EPEAT means that the computer met all 23 of the required criteria and at least 75% of the optional criteria. Some examples of the criteria are: making it fully Arsenic-free, BFR-free, and Mercury-free, having fully PVC free cables and hard drive systems, and increasing the recyclability of the product and packaging. In October 2008, Apple rebuilt the Macbook and Macbook Pro. And they rebuilt it using 50% less structural parts. They also completely redesigned the battery, giving it up to 10 hours of battery on a single charge. The way the new battery is designed, gives the entire computer as a whole, a new lifespan of up to 5 years. Compare that to the average PC’s battery life of 1-2 hours and full lifespan of 2 years and the old Macbook’s battery life of 4-5 hours and a full lifespan of 3 years. And all Macintosh computers use LED backlit disp...

...t to designate to Boot Camp, restart your computer, and it asks you if you want to start using Windows. Then it’s running just like a PC without the hassle. And when your ready to go back to the Mac platform, just restart your computer normally, and it will go back to normal. There are even programs available for purchase like “Parallels” and “VMware Fusion,” that let you run both Mac OS X and Windows at the same time, and let you switch back and forth without having to restart your computer.
Please, go out now and buy your Mac. As you could see, it’s very simple to make the switch, you won’t have the worry about getting viruses, it’s better for the planet to buy a Mac than to buy another PC, and if you really had to you could easily run the occasional Windows program. So for your benefit, I would get on apple.com and start the purchase right now, for your sake.
Recent data shows that 78% of computer users use Microsoft Windows as their primary operating system. Microsoft has also just released a new operating system known as Vista that competes primarily with Apple’s Mac OSX.
He wants mac, she wants mac, everyone wants mac. What is so special about it? What Steve Jobs changed was people’s thinking. Everyone thought that every computer can function the same or at least similarly. But NO! It was an amusement that in literally one millisecond, you could have your computer opened already doing your work. To be honest, mac has many disadvantages. You have to pay for apps, games don’t function as well as other computers, but what mac means to me is making all the disadvantageous, to an advantage. It was so simple for Jobs. If you wanted to play games in your computer, he would just respond, well get another one that is not mac. Mac itself made it special and wanting for everyone. The reason was because iPhone had already grabbed people’s mind. With the mac, you could make your iPhone function better. It made it so comfortable for people that had apple phones because you could call, message, facetime, and download music. A reason it made all human beings amused was because the hd screen it had. When you put a video in your mac, you could see everything as hd as if you were there in the video. This made it more wanting for “Skypers” (people who use skype) because it had a better screen, and it looked as if you were prettier. At the beginning max computers weren’t so willing, but when the macbook air came out, it changed the world. How could a computer be so thin? It functioned the same as other computers, but the design
Apple systems are not as popular as Microsoft so there are fewer malware written to target Apple. Microsoft system are so popular that most virus writers target them. It is a requirement to have anti-virus software installed on a Microsoft system. Apple also has a built in program called Boot Camp; this program lets you install Windows. You can even divide space on your hardware so you’ll have both operating systems on the same computer. Apple is not compatible on a Windows system.
As a young college student walking into a Best Buy to purchase a laptop for college can be a little intimidating. There are many things to consider such as hard drive, what processors are the best, which screen has the best resolution, or would you rather build a computer that best suits you. The options are endless and in most cases it can become overwhelming, due to the rapid expansion in technology a variety of products that are available have increased dramatically in the past 7 years. Some of the most important criteria that should be considered when evaluating these products are portability, performance, and price. The MacBook Air is an interesting product, because it isn’t top of the line in any of these criteria. In fact, it has a balance of all three that have made it one of the top selling products of recent. Of course no laptop is made to run the same, but that is what makes this specific different than others.
Mention that, even though the Mac seems more expensive than a comparable PC, price comparisons are best made over the useful life of a system. The Mac lasts about twice as long as the PC- with continuing support. Relate that PowerPC processors run faster and more efficiently than even Intel Pentium III processors of the same clock speed: 400 MHz on a Mac is faster than 400 MHz on a PC.
Windows based computers are cheaper, and more easily upgradeable than Macintosh systems. The reason for this being that Apple has exclusive rights to the hardware made specifically for their computers. Windows based system hardware is produced by literally thousands of manufacturers. This, of course, means competition, which in turn lowers prices. Macintosh systems are sold (primarily) as a whole system, meaning that the consumer ends up with what Apple has decided should be included in the system. Windows systems, however, can be built to the consumers needs, or by the consumer themselves. They could select which component would be best for them for the price they would pay for it. Most importantly, with a Windows based system consumers could select what components they wish to have based on what they might pay for them.
For those of you that still stuck in windoze land, have no fear; Mac OSX is here. As a 6-year user of Bill Gate's Windows, making the move to the Mac's creative user-interface was easy. I've been using Mac's throughout my whole life, but only come to enjoy it since OSX was released. OSX is jam-packed with matrix like features, the best pre-bundled software, and boyish good looks.
The debate between whether to buy Macintosh or buy a PC has been ongoing since Microsoft first introduced Microsoft Windows in November 1984. Apple Macintosh had developed its first personal computer, mouse and graphical user interface (GUI) in January of 1984. The debate has grown and has been the subject of many articles and even is the main high light of various websites. This frequently heated debate has even been compared to the Pepsi vs. Coke debate (Derene, 2009). While the rhetoric has continued the differences between these products has actually lessened, making it possible for some applications to be shared. Even the mechanics of the machines has become similar. Both use Intel processors, and both obtain many of their parts from the same supply companies. The operating systems of Windows Vista and Mac OSX Leopard are very similar when comparing multimedia, Internet and applications (Derene, 2009).
Let’s take a trip back in time and review the evolution of a computer company. It’s not IBM or Microsoft. This company is Apple Computers, Incorporated. In the year 1976, before most people even thought about buying a computer for their homes. Back then the computer community was only a few nerds building simple computers from hobby kits. When Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs sold a van and two programmable calculators for thirteen hundred dollars and started Apple Computers, Inc., in Jobs garage, the reach for success seemed far.
Apple was founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, who were determined to change the way people were utilizing the computer. From then Apple has been able to grow its business into one of the most prominent company in the world. Apple Inc. is an American company that creates software, cellular phones, computers and consumer electronic products as well. Some of the Apple products most recognized products are the iPod, iPhone, Mac, and the recently new iPad. They have established over 300 retail stores in about 10 countries around the world. Many people do not know this, but also service numerous of computer software, such as Mac OS X operating system, Final Cut Studio, Logic Studio, iOS, which is a mobile operating system that hosts
In a 2009 study by the Environment Protection and Heritage Council (EPHC), in the years 2007 to 2008, of the 16.8 million computers that reached their potential ‘end life’, only 1.5 million were recycled (< 9%) with the remainder being sent to landfill or storage. It is predicted that by 2028 the amassed volume of computers and televisions that reach the end of their useful life is expected to reach ove...
People are always looking for ways to save money. By using “Green” computer components you can save money and energy. Everyone having a computer powered on days at a time can use up a lot of energy, which will lead to a large energy bill. There is a lot of different ways to adapt your computer to be more energy efficient. Using more energy efficient computer components and changing settings in your operating system will save you big. By purchasing more energy efficient components such as processors, hard drives and computer monitors you can make your computer consume less power thus saving energy.
The National Safety Council estimates that 300 million computers will be discarded by the year 2007. The recycling company BTTF estimates that 63 million computers will become obsolete in the year 2005. BTTF also estimates that ink cartridges for computers are being discarded at a rate of nearly eight per second. Another recycling company estimates that about 1 billion floppy disks, CD’s, and DVD’s are discarded of and eventually end up in landfills (Parsons, 104). This is important information because many people do not realize how harmful computer waste can be to the environment. With all these “old” parts of computers being thrown away at such a rapid rate it is critical to weigh your options for disposal because if everyone simply threw their old computers in the Wednesday trash we would have a problem in the very near future.
Sadly, many people refuse to face the onslaught of computer technology. A 1994 survey conducted by Dell Computers indicated the 55% of Americans are phobic or resistant to computers (Column). In addition, many important people, including CEOÕs of major companies, are rumored to be computer illiterate (Column). The former CEO of IBM even admitted to never using a computer (Column). Fortunately, PC’s are becoming more and more user friendly as the technology improves. Fewer errors, less maintenance and quicker functioning should encourage many reluctant people to finally step into the new era.
This is because Apple computers tend to be more expensive as compared to other machines. However, many computer users prefer using Mac OS X operating systems over Windows due to their look and feel.
