“People want the right to die at a time of their own choosing. Too many families have watched helplessly as a relative dies slowly, longing for death.” These famous words from Polly Toynbee really explains the meaning of the right to die, if someone is terminally ill and suffering they should be able to choose the right time to die with the least suffering. When faced with end of life decisions, one must consider limiting suffering and creating less stress on the family, rather than thinking of it as suicide.

A quote from Humphrys that supports how doctors should create less stress on the family with the right to die is, “I wish his final days had been different. When I held his hand in his bedroom and we had our last real conversation and he told me what he feared, I wish I had been able to say to him: ‘You are in control. We both know you are dying. It is for you and nobody else to decide how and when your life comes to its end. If you want help to die, we will give you that help’.” (Humphrys 89). This shows how the family is having a lot of stress knowing that the his final days of his life were spent suffering and in pain. Another quote that supports how doctors should create less stress on the family with the right to die is, “[My brother] wanted to be in control of his own death just as he had been in control of his own life until the moment the cancer stuck.” (Humphrys 88). This shows how the family is having a lot of stress knowing that Humphrys brother wanted to be in control of his life but he couldn't because he didn't get to choose when his time was up.
