Why Social Media is Destroying are Social life Social Media is something that millions of people of all ages are using to communicate with one another even if it 's through twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and or texting. Because of the Social Media, it is now the number one interaction that dominates online and offline when it comes to socializing. According to USA TODAY, a Yazino Founder Hussien Chahine said in the telegraph that “Communication is constantly evolving. Some people are used to seeing their friends’ online avatar as they are their face.” But here’s the problem, people are abusing the social media way too much, I mean if it is not on their phone then they are on the computer 24/7 checking to see if anybody responded. Me for one, …show more content…
According to CBS news, A 31-year-old financial executive of New York named Kim Stolz, always checking on her friends all the time when it comes to love and social media, but she has noticed that her friends have this addiction to social media way too much. According to Kim Stolz as I quote "I 've always been someone that my friends would comment over and over again like, 'oh there 's Kim with her phone again, ' oh you 're the most socially social media addicted person we 've ever met, " Stolz said. And I can relate to that because I have 2 aunt 's that are on my mom side of the family that always come over to our house and start being on their cell phones all the time and not paying attention to what is going on, and it hurts the family because we are always talkative about anything, seeing them on the phone looking on social media for something that is not important is sad and …show more content…
According to USA TODAY, “Almost all of the students said they’ve experienced some type of FOMO (fear of missing out). Students said that their anxiety or stress levels are at its high when viewing photos of their peers having fun and comparing themselves or their lives to the photos. The students realized it 's easy to portray a different version of themselves on the internet, yet, still felt pressured to look as though they’re living it up in college.” There are a handful of people that can be distracted by social media, even when you are at school or work, it can be really sad because one can lose track of time on what he or she is supposed to be doing. And they will try to post status photos of themselves to see if they get any likes because they just want someone to be interested in them. From my experience, I never even try to post up any status of what I am doing because I not so addicted to social media like most people are. I only use my phone when I looking upon something that is important and when I am contacting my family, that’s
To begin with, Scope’s “Is Technology Killing Our Friendships?” By Lauren Tarshis states that “If we are constantly checking in with our virtual worlds, this leaves little time for our real-world relationships...” People think that they are constantly connecting with others on social media when in fact they are doing the opposite. Checking phones constantly only proceeds to dim the real world. People who are always
Over the past fifteen years, the use of social media by both the general public and by the business world has expanded dramatically. Social media is one of a number of social technologies - any technological device or technique that can be used to facilitate communication between individuals. Social technology includes everything from the telephone to Wikipedia. Social media, on the other hand, is the use of media platforms which were specifically create to connect users with other users and give them a peak into each other's lives by allowing them exchange information, messages, ideas, pictures, and other personal communication. However, it’s been known to abuse this rapidly growing technology.
In the article, “Disruptions: More Connected, Yet More Alone,” Charlene DeGuzman states, “It makes me sad that there are moments in our lives where, we’re not present because we’re looking at a phone.”An app is being developed to help people control their time on social media. This app would be a good tool for people who want to limit their time on technology. I think that an app to limit social media use would be an amazing idea. The three reasons I side with this argument are; Some people neglect their friends and family when they’re on social media, People can miss out on life if they’re busy trying to record it, and Many people become addicted to technology.
“Beware the Bareness of a busy life.” This quote is from the philosopher, Socrates. I feel that constantly being busy could be a distraction from some of the most beautiful things in life. Ever heard the expression “Stop and smell the roses?” This expression is about the idea that busyness can cause the worker to miss some of the little joys in life. Most people get caught in routines, trying to pack our schedule as full as we can make it. I’m as guilty as any, and it has caused me to miss spending time with some of the most beautiful people in my life. Not too long ago, I became obsessed with the idea of social media. I checked it constantly, and it took away from my quality time with some really great people in my life. If I had only been more self-aware like I am now about social media, I would’ve made a change back then. Now all my social medias are in a folder on my phone, titled “Be Present.” This has helped me not make myself busy by silly posts on Facebook, compare myself to other people and their pages, and really become more self-aware about my problem of desiring an empty, busy lifestyle. I feel like it’s such an easy trap to fall into, and everyone needs to beware of what a blessing and a curse social medias can be. I think that it is important to take a break from work occasionally, rest, and
Many people have access to social media daily. Sometimes people do not even think about how much they rely on social media. Many jobs would not exist if it were not for the social media; jobs like computer repair and even the people who created the computer and social media websites would not have jobs. People of today need to take a moment and realize and think about if all this social media use is
To begin with, social media has been proven to be a dangerous addiction due to the many negative side effects like: sleep deprivation, and self-esteem problems. Most of the adult American population is connected to some sort of social media site, and they have joined the banned wagon of people whom check their social media accounts at least five times a day. Using social media to often can be time consuming and essentially causes sleep deprivation because the user stays up late on social media. Since social media has grown in popularity many have began to believe that social media is a life necessity. It is viewed by many as a daily necessity like brushing our teeth, or yet as important as eating. People whom are constantly on social media have been linked to develop self-esteem problems because they are so consumed on pretending and portraying this image of a person they are not. Social media has became such an addiction that many people wake up and the first thing they do is...
Every day we meet a lot of people have seen their behavior, listen to what they say, think about them, try to understand them. We feel that we not only see what color eyes and hair of a person, tall or not, thin or full, but also sad to him or fun, smart or stupid it, solid or not and so on. Over the past decade, social media has seen growth to the point where it is reflects in our daily lives and even the lives of those who choose not to use it. Anywhere we go online, there are always buttons to click so that you can share something on Facebook or pin it to your Pinterest account.

Social Media has evolved magnificently since the first email sent in 1971. Social media is any form of website or application which enables us to share content with one another with a simple sharing tool. Social media has become an addiction for most, if you were to ask the average student if they were connected to a social networking site, about 73 percent would reply with a yes. In addition, about 63 percent of people log on to a social media site daily and on average 40 percent log on multiple times a day. Everyone has their own reasons for the use of social media, which could include shopping, research, or other personal reasons like venting and status updates.
Social media can become very addictive to some and it may cause negative effects on that person’s life. Everyday use of social media can make a person want to get on, to needing to get on the computer. Becoming hooked can affect a person in many ways. Such as, their job, family,
Social media although a great tool can become an addiction ultimately affecting our lives and state of mind. That is why we need to limit the amount of time and information we share on social networks. Although the internet is a tool full of good and bad available to everyone, teenagers and young adults are more prone to falling into the traps of the internet. People also abuse social media and overuse it every day because they are concerned with what is happening every hour. Social media is a tool not a necessity and should never be abused or used as a diary because it could result in unwanted consequences that can hurt us in the future.
Social media has caused a substantial decrease in face-to-face time, stopped people from working effectively, and has caused an increase in bullying. Social media as defined by dictionary.com is “websites and other online means of communication that are used by large groups of people to share information and to develop social and professional contacts”. People use social media for networking, education, and entertainment. Some of today’s most popular social media sites include Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Vine, YouTube, and LinkedIn. Facebook is used as a basic social media site.
Our society today has become dependent on social media to entertain, excite, and inform each other on the newest and latest hot topics of today’s world. Some people cannot go as long as an hour without checking their social media websites whether it is on the phone, computer, Ipad, or any other electronic devise with internet. The creators of social media have made it easier to recognize and draw the user in with notifying pop-ups every time something new happens in the cyber world. The easier it gets, the more addicting it makes it to check every second. Also, it’s not only the youth and teenagers using these social media cites; it also claims adults as well. One of the main reasons people make social media accounts is because people are nosey about other people’s lives. They get a social media page such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to monitor people and see what they are missing out of in the world. People post pictures to their “page” for everyone to see how good they look or how funny they are. Since everyone has a social media account, others feel obligated to make one, two, or even three accounts. What used to be rare is now typical for a normal person to have at l...
The problem with social media is that it is becoming so big and a huge distraction. Studies show that fifty six percent of everyone in America has some sort of social media application. Considering babies and seniors probably don’t have access to a phone, this is a huge number. For the amount of individuals that have phones the percentage that have social media is quite high (insert amount of people). Not only has the amount of people on social media has increased, it will continue to increase for a very long time.
There are some downsides to being constantly connected to everybody through social media. The biggest down side is not communicating to loved ones and family through real life interaction, but instead through social media. That is a serious problem to some people, especially those who use technology and are familiar to technology. Because they might not feel the urge to make human interaction, they are just attracted more to technology.
