The FDA have conducted test proving the effectiveness of marijuana many times and have found that the cannabinoids in marijuana are helpful in “treating pain associated with chemotherapy, postoperative recovery, and spinal cord injury, as well as neuropathic pain, which is often experienced by patients with metastatic cancer, multiple sclerosis, diabetes”.

Marijuana fits the schedule one drug classification because marijuana is dangerous to people’s health, has been found to be addictive if used daily, and also has no medical benefits because marijuana can cause more health problems than it can cure.
I believe that the legalization of marijuana for recreational use would do more harm than good. Not only does it have the potential to cause dependency, but studies have shown that it can cause functional impairment in mental abilities, and that it is a “gateway drug.” I believe that these negative aspects far outweigh their positive counterparts. I do, however, believe that marijuana should be legal for medical use.
