“It's not about whether you win or lose, it's about how you play the game.” -Grantland Rice. Being a great athlete is a gift and talent from God, but unfortunately PEDs are set foot in sports and used as cheating and unfairness. Before athletes use PEDs, they should be required to view the dangers of the drug, the increase in youth drug use and other unhealthy activities, and the negative impact of PEDs on the spirit and integrity of the sport. Drugs shouldnt be allowed in sports activities! An example is, “We are designing people for sports. We treat human beings like pieces of meat. We lose the core values about celebrating human effort and the joy of the effort and the love of the game.” (ProCon.org 1) People aren't considering the lives of others, but …show more content…
Although PEDs might be hard to detect, people should put a purpose into caring if athletes are cheating. Even though EPO’s, might be higher than 0.5 in athletes, people should test all athletes before. For all of these reasons, of having PED's tested in athletes, one can see that it's an integrity problem and it's not essential. PED violates the spirit and integrity! One reason is, “Spirit of the sport is a celebration of the human spirit, body, and mind, and is reflected in values we find in and through sports, including ethics, fairplay and honesty, health, excellence and performance, character, education, fun, joy, teamwork, dedication, and commitment. People need to implement respect for the rules and laws, and for themselves and other participants in sports. It all comes down to the Integrity of the player and if they are willing to put in the
The role of PEDs (performance enhancing drugs) in world of sports has been the center of much controversy and debate dating back to the beginning of the Olympics, that has captured a considerable amount of attention within the past century. The revelation of PED use by star athletes has been a repeating occurrence in the world of professional sports. These allegations quickly turn legacies into scandals, for what one person once stood for throughout their career is now quickly overshadowed by the insert of a needle. The question then is, what if they were made legal? what would the reaction be and how would it change each respective league if PEDs were now allowed on the playing field? The use of these supplements has found its place in sports in a very timely and real matter, with many in opposition towards the use because of the growing concerns surrounding them, health and morally. In a closer examination of the purpose of professional sports, it is clear that the use of PEDs only bolster its purpose: allowing professional athletes to push to reach the peak of human perfection resulting in increased performance and success in sports from an entertainment perspective.
There are many downfalls to PED use in baseball. Physically enhancing drugs can deteriorate your body and doing permanent damage to themselves and their reputation as a player. PED use ruins the enjoyment of the game for viewers because it isn’t fair for those who
Performance Enhancing Drugs should not be allowed in sports. PEDs are a form of cheating. Not only are they cheating, but they can harm the athlete's body too. There are many long-term health risks we don't even know about! Finally, PED’s make the game unfair because the kids with natural talent are not able to showcase their great skills.
Currently it is an estimated that at least 6.67 percent of high school seniors in the United States have tried steroids, which is 500,000 males between the ages of 17 and 18 (Anabolic Steroids). The pressure of steroids on teenagers is constantly drilled into their heads because they associate increased strength with perfection. Teenagers are under immense pressure to be perfect. Kids are pressured to do well in school, sports, and any other activities that they are participating in. Anything other than the best is unacceptable and failure which strikes and leads to disrespect. Failure has the sole purpose of tearing people from their self confidence and lending them to be insecure, questioning their abilities and themselves. It does not help that kids have role models that choose the easy way to accomplish their goals. It also sends a message to those who admire them that taking certain sacrifices to reach self-goals and standards are very much acceptable. Hard work and determination has become something of the past when it is possible to do the same amount of work and receive results faster if you just take a couple risks. Steroids should not only be banned from sports, but athletes who are found to have used steroids should receive a more distinct and severe punishment. No matter how it is said or defended steroids truly are cheating. Steroids are becoming a substitute for hard work and determination.
Many Athletes are willing to do whatever it takes to become a professional. One of the easiest ways to enhance natural ability is through performance-enhancing drugs or, PEDs. PEDs are substances used by athletes to increase their performance. The use of PEDs in athletic competition can date back to ancient Greece. Athletes use PEDs to run faster, jump higher and recover at an increased pace. Many athletes are pressured into using PEDs by coaches or managers and are not thoroughly educated the harmful health issues that can come along with taking performance-enhancing drugs. A rising issue is if performance-enhancing drugs should be allowed in professional sports. I believe that in any professional sport, the use of performance-enhancing drugs by athletes should continue to be banned because this rule will help to keep athletes from abusing these harmful drugs.
Imagine someone putting all their time and effort into a sport just to figure out someone is doing better than them because they cheated. Athletes work daily putting in as much effort as they can but some take the easy way and use PED’s. It is unfair to those athletes that actually try at the sport. First off it is unfair to other athletes that work hard for someone to cheat and use PED’s. Athletes do not think it is fair considering how much hard work they put into the sport they play.
PED in golf is a thing that i thought would happen rarely and would happens less than sports like baseball and football but apparently not. So I found some information on the issue and and apparently the PGA(professional golfers association) has a list of suspected PED takers. Now what i think is that PED shouldn’t be in golf because it’s not needed, this is also said for other sports. Now people can argue that it’s a simple sport and it won't change anything, but it will. I will now talk about this issue with the use of other sources, and what people have said.
...t these drugs are catastrophic and cause so many diseases and sicknesses that should not happen to an athlete. Athletes will be looked at as superheroes and children would not want to idolize a player that got to where he is because he did drugs. A child wants to look up to a player that beat the odds and worked harder than everyone else. If Performance Enhancing Drugs were legalized and allowed in all professional sports, there would be a lot of deaths, and player that have diseases caused by the drugs they took. Also High school and college players would begin to take it because they would feel like that is the only way to get to the pros. And lastly players would hurt themselves and their teammates and fellow players. PED’s have a lot of potential but not yet. There are too many health defects and we do not want our “heroes” to die from a disease caused by drugs.
In all professional sports in the United States, the use of PEDs are prohibited. However, there is only one acceptation to that rule. If an athlete is injured, prescriptions to certain drugs which are used in recover are allowed. These drugs may consist of certain chemicals that enhance muscle grow. Some athletes have used this to their advantage and have got prescriptions to these drugs for their own personal benefits, will other athletes are using it for recreational purposes. This, however, is not the only way to obtain PEDs; there are also other ways such as buying them from an underground market. Athletes with the intention to cheat will take the risk of using PEDs, since if they are successful they will achieve fame and money.
It should not be allowed that athletes can suffer from the long-term effects because we make usage more available. The long-term risks of heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, and liver tumors are scary. The competition level should remain as it is today and should not be diminished due to widespread PED usage. It would not be the same watching sporting events if you know the athletes are only that good because they use PEDs. It is also concerning that young children would think it is acceptable to use PEDs because their role models all use
Performance enhancing drugs, also known as PEDs, are used by many athletes in the sporting world. It seems as if every, or at least most, athletes are using PEDs and are getting caught all the time, even though they are cheating. PEDs need to stay illegal because they are harming everyone involved. One reason that the world of sports should not allow PEDs is because the use of them is giving an unfair advantage and can cause bad side effects. If PEDs were legal, then every athlete would be taking them, then the people who want to be the biggest and the best would take more, resulting in a very violent game.
2 The use of PED’s in sport is a major issue in today’s society; some people are against legalizing the use of PED’s in sport whilst others are for. People believe that the use of performance-enhancing drugs in sport creates an unfair advantage, while others believe that it should be the athletes choice whether they use PED’s or not. 3 If drugs were made to be legal in sport and easily available for all athletes, then there would be no cheating. Any type of drug is declared illegal if it is performance enhancing or if it is a health risk towards the athlete.
Many people believe that drug use in professional athletics is not a serious problem, however it is more widespread and serious than people think. In professional athletics the use of drugs is looked upon as somewhat of a serious problem, but is also very discrete and low key. Every once in a while one might see a prominent figure in a certain sport being reprimanded for the use of some outlawed drug, however this is just one of the many who happened to get caught. Athletes today seem to find no moral problem with using performance-enhancing drugs, or in other words cheating. Also many of them feel that because they are "stars" there should be no repercussions for their illegal activity.
First, when athletes cheat, they are not pushing themselves to achieve success. Cheating also affects the culprit physically, mentally, and emotionally. Doctor Yesalis, a prominent Professor of Health at Pennsylvania State University, states, "You do not need drugs to have a sense of fulfillment, to feel that you've left it all on the field," Yesalis says. "[Drugs have] taken something that God has given us—love of game and sport—and perverted us" (par. 3). Allowing drugs in sports will not prove who is better at the sport we will just see who is the biggest drug user. This is a great integrity check for the individual because it proves who is true to their profession. This also tests their intestinal fortitude to see if they will be man or women enough to do the correct thing.
Overall it is clear that the need to use performance enhancing drugs is outweighed by the consequences and issues caused by performance enhancing drugs. Sporting events such as the world cup, the Olympics or the World Series make young children feel inspired and encouraged about what they could achieve through dedication and hard work. I feel it is important for the sporting industry as well as the athletes to return respectability to the sport. By
