Have you ever heard a song that is played over, and over again and you just have to switch the radio station? Or when you switch the station and that same song is playing in an advertisement or a commercial? This should not be allowed. It will make the song become easily burnt out and not as popular anymore. Songs that were made for your enjoyment, should not be used for commercials. Apps such as Spotify are used as a way for musicians to get their music out there, not as income. As soon as the artist releases a new song, it is put onto a streaming app or ready to buy. But, what about commercials that have a song in it? Neil Young is a music artist who is specifically known for writing songs about politics. One of the presidential candidates took his song, without consent of the artist, and used it in a commercial to endorse himself. Of course Neil Young found out and said, "he would not have allowed the candidate to use the song had he been asked" (Selling Out). If an advertiser wanted to use music in a commercial, they should make a song specifically designed to fit their commercial. Although that can be pricy, it would make the endorser look professional and it would make his commercial stand out. If someone steals their song for use of a commercial or advertisement, they will not make anything. Big artist tend to make their money from merchandise or tours so, big deal if someone uses their song and they don't get payed, right? No, this could leave their fans feeling betrayed. The artists fans, are their biggest costumer. If an artist's music is used in an advertisement that some of the fans don't support, they will stop financially supporting the artist.
