Why Microwaves Are So Good at Popping Popcorn?
POP! There is the popcorn! People love to eat popcorn. People eat popcorn at the movie theater. Some people also eat popcorn when they watch a movie at their house. Popcorn can be popped in many ways. It can be popped in the microwave or the oven. Popcorn is made of three main ingredients, it is the starch, shell, water, and embryo.
To begin with, this is how popcorn gets popped. In the Article, "The Science of popcorn," it states that popcorn gets popped by the heat that the microwave makes. "When the kernel gets hot (about 356 degrees Fahrenheit), the water molecules inside move faster. " As the heat rises, this starch goes from a chalk-like solid to a thick goo. There is barely any room for the water to expand because of the kernels hard outer armor. "What if I told you that it's all those little air pockets that makes popcorn so good at soaking up melted butter, now you're hungry aren't you.

The first ingredient is the shell, also known as the hull, the part most people don't like. The second thing is the starch, the sponge like thing, the parts you are supposed to eat. According to the Article, "The Science of popcorn," it states that popcorn kernels have a little bit of water. The water moves around in the kernel so fast that it pops the shell open along with the starch. Do you know the secret behind great amazing popcorn? You probably won't believe me when I tell you. The answer behind great amazing popcorn is,
This next recipe changes the flavor with a little bit of zest added. Instead of adding candy corns they are shaped like candy corns. They take a little more work, but they are well worth the reaction. You are essentially making three different batches of Rice Krispsie treats, each in a different flavor and color and then shaping them into a candy corn.
In the first third of the book, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, by Michael Pollan, he draws the reader in by bringing to light many interesting facts about corn that most individuals may not realize. He states that the majority of food that people consume contains corn. Although people of Mexican descent are usually referred to as the “corn people”, Americans have now surpassed them in the amount of corn consumed in their daily diet. Corn is consumed in a variety of forms and many of the animals that are eaten by Americans, such as the chicken, pig, turkey, and lamb are fed corn. When a person eats these animals, he or she is essentially increasing their corn intake, and in most cases without even realizing it. The corn crop has spread vastly and is massively produced because it is efficient. Unlike other crop plants, corn can survive in harsh weather conditions and it is light and easy to transport. Maize is also self-fertilized and pollinated by wind, and it has evolved over time and continues to evolve, into new forms and new uses.
Food is an important factor in the everyday human life. Humans need food to be able to live. But how did the food people eat today come about, no one really knows the in depth explanation. What about more common foods that are a part of everyone’s everyday lives, like potato chips. They are a simple, easy snack food that is commonly in every American household. But does anyone know how they came about, who invented them. Well, let me explain a little about who that person was.
In 1965 Orville Redenbacher and his business partner Charles Bowman worked hard to perfect their perfect popcorn hybrid. In 1951 they bought George F. Chester and Son seed corn plant near the city of Valparaiso, Indiana. They named the company “Chester Hybrids”. When asked about making the plant Orville stated “We dried continuously day and night. We had no efficient way to do it, so we built this new popcorn plant” (Orville Redenbacher). Orville and his partner tried tens of thousands of different strains of popping corn before settling on a hybrid they named “RedBow”. The first inspirational about Orville was his persistence, hard work, and dedication. His hard w...
This means that the height of the froth will increase. Then the sand is sanded. The froth is produced due to the gas as it bubbles from the potato slice. This gas is given off as a waste product from the reaction where H2O2 (substrate) breaks down the enzymes in the potato. If I were to roughly plot a graph for the reaction, it would look like.
My sister makes Caramel Corn, which is my favorite. Considering, I don’t like plain popcorn, it has to have caramel, cheese or something else added.
Later, General Foods rejuvenated its carbonated-candy technology and created carbonated bubble gum. This product also provided the crackling sensation of the original Pop Rocks and Space Dust.
The water molecules move freely through the semi-permeable membrane; this is a passive process. We will do this experiment by placing potato chips in different strength solutions and checking for mass increase/decrease. Prediction I hypothesize that if we place potato chips in different strength solutions that there should be different results, some with noticeable changes in mass, the other will be nearly the same. The potatoes should gain/lose mass by the movement of water. If there is a change in mass, it is because water has entered or left the cell.
How many items in your pantry contain a corn product? Whether you know it or not, chances are that all of them do. When one thinks of corn, images of corn on the cob or popcorn may come to mind. Corn however is not grown solely for those summer barbeques or movie theater snacks. From the edible to the inedible, corn appears in all shapes and sizes.
There are many ways to blow bubble gum but i'm going to teach you how. First you have to get some bubble gum and then remove a piece from the pack and unwrap it. After opening the wrapper put the gum into your mouth and chew slowly for only a couple minutes until the gum is fully chewable. Some things can go wrong when doing this. One thing is you forgot to take your wrapper off not only will it taste bad but the paper will cause issues in making the bubble. Another issue is You did not chew for a long enough period of time and the gum is still not fully chewy meaning chunks of the new gum is still in there. The last thing that could go wrong is an old piece of gum and will be stale,in the process the gum will take a longer period of time to get chewy and will not have as good of taste as a fresh pack.
After viewing this documentary to the best of my ability I have learned numerous facts about corn and its pros/cons. Corn is stored in a silo and when an overflow occurs mountains of corn are made outside of the silos. This corn grown in the Midwest is in almost all of the food in every supermarket ranging from steak sauce to syrup to lasagna. Majority of its use is as a sweetener in the form of corn syrup or high
emphasizes that it is very important to a have food label for every food in variety packs. To support his claim he provided the example of his niece who has diabetes and was eating butter popcorn from a popcorn variety tin: the girl did not notice diffe...
Did you know the real reason bubblegum’s original color was pink is because when Walter E. Diemer was looking for a color to put in the gum, the only color around the factory was pink? (Ament, 2007) Also, what is bubblegum and why can you blow bubbles with it? The properties of the gum cause and make it possible for the gum to stretch and form a bubble.
Microwaves are low on the electromagnetic spectrum. The electromagnetic spectrum is a range of all the possible electric radiation. Frequency of a wave is the number of waves per second and the frequency of a microwave is between 300 MHz and 300 GHz. The wavelength of a wave is the distance from one peak of a wave to the peak of a following wave and a wavelength of a microwave varies from one millimeter to thirty centimeters. The frequencies range from ultra high frequency to super high frequency to extremely high frequency. The microwave was discovered by Heinrich Hertz and predicted by James Clerk Maxwell. In 1864, James Clerk Maxwell theorized about microwaves until he predicted equations that would prove the existence of microwaves. In 1888, Heinrich Hertz took these equations and used them in an experiment. He made an apparatus that produced waves and detected these waves. The experiment displayed the different wavelengths of certain waves, such as the short wavelength of microwaves. The discovery of microwaves permitted it to be used for commercial purposes.
You might remember the heroic role that newly-invented radar played in the Second World War. People hailed it then as "Our Miracle Ally". But even in its earliest years, as it was helping win the war, radar proved to be more than an expert enemy locator. Radar technicians, doodling away in their idle moments, found that they could focus a radar beam on a marshmallow and toast it.
