In today’s society we swear more than ever but is it bad? There is no proof that swearing is bad so why shouldn’t we? I have no clue, but ever since we were young we have been taught to not swear. Many children ages 1-12 don’t swear with common words but produce their own. When kids swear it rarely leads to some sort of harm or violence. I personally swear and it on no occurrence leads up to violence or harm. I strongly believe that swearing is not bad, but because we have been taught it is bad and generation to generation it has been disgusted by many. Some people swear in their music and make millions and millions of people are ok with it. So is swearing bad? Well you can’t just say it's bad or good it depends on the situation that the …show more content…
But did you know its good for your health? Yes, in a study done by boston university it showed that swear words can relieve stress, pain and even build camaraderie. How though, you might ask? Swearing allows people to vent and it helps blow off steam. But on the other hand you could relieve stress or pain by meditating, using a stress ball or even smiling. This however doesn’t prove that swearing is bad it only shows alternate methods for relieving stress or pain. As I mentioned before it also can build camaraderie, so let's say your at school and a teacher is near you while you're talking with your peers. Obviously you would feel constrained from swearing. If you had the ability to express yourself freely with that teacher still around wouldn’t that be more comfortable? In my opinion yes, you can talk with whatever comes to mind making it more at ease to talk with your peers. So swearing isn’t bad then right?, in my opinion yes. The research has shown that there is no negative impact by swearing. The leading cause of the restriction of swearing is what parents have taught their kids generation to generation. If anything swearing is good and the ability to express yourself freely with your words should make any conversation more
People even today use crude language, like the commonly used word,”Nigger” (20 Steinbeck). This word is used in pop culture frequently and is a common word in some communities. Another example would be when,”Son-of-a-bitch”was stated (27 Steinbeck). This is a recurring word used in western language that people use when they are angry or mad at someone. This is already language teens see and hear in America, so why is vulgar language so bad when it’s in writing?
Banning a book on the basis of profanity is merely a superficial reason of those who wish to limit beliefs that do not coincide with their own. By excluding a novel from a high school curriculum in order to shelter students from profanity, is an attempt to do the impossible. Profanity is found everywhere. According to TV Guide, "Profanity is uttered once every six minutes on American primetime television...
Swearing has the ability to get someone in a whole load of trouble at the dinner table with their mother but could also be their choice of words when they accidently stub their toe on the coffee table in the living room. Natalie Angier discusses this controversial topic of words that shouldn’t be said in her article feature in The New York Times, “Almost Before We Spoke, We Swore”. Provoked by a recently proposed bill to increase fines for using swear words on television, Angier analyzes not only the impact of swearing, but also where the desire to speak obscene words comes from. She references many credible studies and sources as she unfolds her argument. She uses a diverse slew of studies, experiments, and famous pieces of literature and
Trash talking is extremely big right now, do I like it? Of course not. People will always have their negativity on you, but you just have to ignore the bad and always think about the good. If someone is always being rude to you, you just have to ignore them, because they will realize that you don't get effected by what they are doing and they will eventually stop, because if you were to say anything back, is just adding to the fire to create an even bigger fire. Treat someone the way you want to be treated, treat someone with respect, and respect is what you will
...es not turn our society toward violence. There are other possible solutions though, like making a list of words that are indecent, meaning offensive to community standards. This would illiminate harmful curse words that are derogatory.
The way you can express the word ‘fuck’ is overwhelming. It could be used for fun, to express anger, and just about every other way you could think of. Personally, I use it in just about every sentence while speaking and typing. I feel like it’s a huge stress reliever for me.
David A. Fein and Milton Millhauser have both written articles pertaining to the topic of slang. Fein and Millhauser provide two different viewpoints, and they employ information and their opinions in different ways. David A. Fein’s article, “Vulgarity by Teaching Slang in the Classroom”, makes a good argument as to why slang should be utilized in teaching, while Milton Millhauser’s article, “The Case Against Slang”, explains that slang is to be avoided in teaching, but fails to provide a good argument for his claim.
During my entire vocational training, I have seen a lot of students simplified this consideration, understanding that teaching literacy, and the adequation of speech only means to create tasks and exposed students to real situations, where they have to use their own resources to communicate effectively, without expliciting the rules of the language, identifying and analyzing those specific decisions that they are taking, and the reasons of it. I disagree profoundly.
The Marvel cinematic universe is known for having a family-friendly and loving tone, and their movies are usually action packed with a touch of humor. The director for the Avengers, Joss Whedon, takes a lot of pride in his films, and he tries to add humor whenever possible. This is seen in the second Avengers film, Avengers: The Age of Ultron. There is a scene where Captain America and Iron Man are having a debate on their use of language, and during a mission Captain America asks Iron Man to watch his profanity. This is a reminder that the film is primarily targeted towards children. On the other hand, DC like to keep their movies gritty, serious, and almost somber. In the great film Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice the character’s use profanity is another way of expressing their thoughts. They are not necessarily censored, but still
Censorship is detrimental to society. People can’t learn from their mistakes if we hide them. People can’t decide the best option if we say there are no options. People can’t understand each other if they don’t know what anyone is thinking. People can’t mature when they are “protected” from mean words. People can’t be themselves when they are being censored.
When a person swears or curses it effects the way people view them. You may admire a person and think that they are intelligent and can articulate their feelings, but in the moment where they may use foul language, the view of the swear-er may change drastically. Or when trying to impress a date or someone you may be interested in, cursing could ruin the opportunity for that relationship to blossom into something more. More often than not, when someone will swear it will only put off the others. The way to mend this problem is to consciously evaluate yourself to make sure that you don’t swear. At first it may be very difficult, swearing becomes something of a habit and to reverse it will take more than sheer will-power. Positive reinforcements from parents or someone of authority will help more than anyone can know. Kathryn Hatter, journalist for the Global Post states, “The beauty of positive reinforcement is that it teaches and motivates specific behaviors by using items or activities that appeal to your teenager, states Shannon Baranski, psychology professor with the Houston Community College. Instead of punishing your adolescent by taking ...
The thought that there is only one set, unevolving way to speak is harmful to society. Language has always been a constantly changing idea, new languages would grow and others would die. They would be born, die and evolve with the need of society. It is something we as humans will always have to enable us to communicate
Although they are very closely related, power and authority are two different concepts. Power is needed in order to establish authority, yet it is also completely distinct from authority (Week 9 Study Notes).
Hence censorship is essential in order to maintain peace and stability in the society. It will decrease the crime rates. Children can be exposed to sexual matters in school in a different manner as education. Excessive amount of sexual explicit material would surely be harmful. Censorship does not have a downside and it will be a better society.
I could go on and on about this subject, listing the reasons why and what happens when bad
