In the Ben Affleck’s movie The Town, he plays a character name Doug MacRay as the Protagonist that undergoes a life changing experience. Throughout the movie he starts to realize he has been living a life he doesn’t want. In the beginning Doug seems that he isn’t really into the aspects of his gang anymore but is can’t seem to bring him away from the life. His inner conflict because that he realizes as well is taught that he isn’t meant to be a bad guy he just is a good person who does bad things. The main reason why he starts to realize this is after a robbery gone wrong he becomes involved with a woman named Claire. This movie shoes a modern spin on a old school time of the gangs in Boston as if it is an example how things have changed in real life. Doug is a very interesting character whose background …show more content…
These risk factors included the people he was surrounded by, his background and the pressures of protecting the people he cares about. The biggest risk factor that affected him from the very first scene is the connection with Claire. This can also be viewed as a protective factor because she is the reason why Doug was so adamant to get out of the same old criminal behavior. The reason why she is a risk factor is because she can be used as a weapon against Doug, which eventually happens. Another risk factor is that every person that Doug had really cared about ended up turning against him. This included his parents, Krista and Claire. In a way James was a risk factor as well because he pressured Doug to commit the heist that were planned but also threated Claire, which obviously made Doug mad. Some protective factors would be Doug’s own thoughts when he realized he really wasn’t a bad guy, it changed his perspective on how he was living. Another protective factor was the job that he had finally received and he started actually committing to work so he could get money to start
The film starts with an uprising after a white storeowner kills a black teenager. This incident Highlights Prejudices. The teenager was labeled a thief because of the color of his skin and the unjustifiable murder causes racial tensions that exist as a result of the integration of the high schools.
The most pressing one is obviously work related stress (Matteson & Ivancevich, 1987). The pressure of managing more and more people has made David more prone to anxiety and his sleeping issues. Another risk factor is his large blended family. David has to provide for all five kids and his wife at least to a certain extent. Further, there are certain family dynamics that are more challenging to David’s family than to a non-blended family. For example, having to deal with his ex-wife and having two stepchildren that have severe learning disabilities. Factors that may worsen David’s life condition include his sleep, back aches, and drinking habits. The less sleep he gets, the more of a challenge it is going to be to balance his work and family. Further, his drinking has potential to turn into an issue as he is doing it everyday in order for him to go to sleep. Information that would be useful to determine other risk factors include whether or not he pays alimony, his yearly salary, and his family health
The main protagonist of the film, Scotty Smalls, is introduced as a straight-A, friendless young boy who has just moved into a new neighborhood in new state. While
The film follows Henry's mafia life, from when he was 15 and just making drinks for the gangsters until he is a true gangster himself with a wife and family, having kids make drinks for him. The film's tag line is 'Three Decades of life in the Mafia', without even watching the film you can tell by this that the genre of the film will be gangster. The enigma behind this slogan also gives you an insight to the narrative as you, the audience, think, who has spent three decades in the mafia? The final film I decided to study was 'The Krays'; Peter Madak directed this film. This film is autobiographical and is focused around the lives of the infamous Kray twins.
The film that interested me for this assignment was “Boyz n the Hood”. The movie was about a Los Angeles neighborhood expanding of drug and gang culture, with increasingly tragic results. It was about how one teen had family support to guide him on the right path in life regarding the social problems around him. The other two teens in the film wasn’t as fortunate and fell into the social problems of drugs, violence, and gangs; where one ended up dead.
This movie portrays the happier side of the 70s when bell bottoms and marijuana were the fashion and drinking and driving had yet to become unthinkable,. Dazed and Confused follows the lives of various groups of teenagers, during the last day of school in 1976, in their hometown. The movie is all about their philosophies on life, work, love and especially their futures, that we never hear about. Among the characters, there is Randall Floyd a young football player, pressured into choosing between being drug-free or authority-free. Then there is Mitch, an upcoming high school freshman trying to fit in, who spends the day running away from the senior hazing team, while attempting to hang out with the older crowd. It’s a time when everyone wastes their lives away in the carefree high school years. The message of the movie is to stand up for what you believe and resist all
In this film we see many typical high school behaviors such as cliques, cattiness, and popularity (or lack there of) issues. Many scenes in this movie have an array of stereotypes. Sometimes they are clearly stated and others just seen through attitudes of the actors/actresses character. Also through out we follow the main clique “the plastics” and they have this image they have to uphold. Be perfect, skinny, the best at everything, and in sync with everything they do; or they wont uphold their status. I chose this film because I think it shows a lot of what we have learned in this course and how it is in real life. Clearly the film is exaggerated but much of
This movie was a tale of an immigrant seeking money and power who untimely set up his own demise. The producers did a good job at pointing out certain features that let you into the life of an organized crime leader. He tells of his humble beginnings and shows you in details how he rose to the top. The producer had a point to make and I took that point as being you can never get and stay someone good while being bad. The sound effects and graphics also makes this movie. They show just enough to intrigue you but yet not to completely make you sick to your stomach. The music is very telling and
The main themes are that you shouldn’t judge people by their appearances. Just because you are rich and belong to a tough gang does not mean you are cruel like the other gang members. You shouldn’t carry any harmful weapons and should not escape from the police.
It is full of drama but it does not leave the facts behind regarding deviant behavior. Not only it provides a take on deviance but it also suggests that anything can be corrected if one positive step is taken to that direction. This movie has a strong appeal to those who choose deviant behavior over peace and are behaving anti-social. This film should be watched by every young person at least one so that they can understand the psychological turmoil one goes through after they commit something to harm others just to prove a point. It is never too late to choose the right way and Derek shows that very precisely. I would love to watch this film again as it gives a very positive vibe to me and I have learnt a lot from
The film stays in line with classic noir in many ways. The usage of dark sets and high contrast lighting, which creates heavy shadows on the actors faces, makes the movie feel like it all happens at night and in dark alley ways. The story focuses on the inhumane parts of human nature. Each of the main characters experiences some kind of tragedy. For Vargas his tragedy was in dealing with Quinlin who has set out to frame him and his wife. For Quinlin his entire life represented a man consumed with darkness who lives his life with a “Touch of Evil.” Menzies was a hopeful man who looked up to Quinlin but was let down. For the viewer, film noir represents truth, even if it is not a truth that all people would like to hear.
This movie takes place in Los Angeles and is about racial conflicts within a group of people which occur in a series of events. Since there are a wide variety of characters in this movie, it can be confusing to the viewer. In the plot, Graham is an African-American detective whose younger brother is a criminal. His mother cares more about his brother than Graham and she wants Graham to bring his brother back home, which in turn hurts Graham. Graham?s partner Ria is a Hispanic woman who comes to find that her and Graham?s ethnicities conflict when she had sex with him. Rick is the Los Angeles district attorney who is also op...
The director Antoine Fuqua vision for this film was to bring that intense love-hate relationship onto the big screen and showcase it for the world to see. To ensure a convincing film setting, Fuqua shot on location in some of the most hardcore neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Fuqua also wanted to show the daily struggles of officers tasked to work in the rougher neighborhoods of cities and how easy it can be to get caught up in a street life filled with killers and drug dealers. Overall the film displayed the city of Los Angeles in a different perspective. One which m...
One of the more prevalent themes of this movie is racism, and how prejudicial mindsets ultimately lead to one’s own demise. The movie outlines how racism, among other things, can adversely affect someone’s judgment. After the father died, we see how the family gradually deteriorates financially as well as emotionally after Derek (the older brother played by Edward Norton) turns to a neo Nazi gang for an outlet, which eventually influences his younger brother Danny (played by Edward Furlong) to follow down ...
