There is nothing worse than feeling like you are prepared and are, without a doubt, going to succeed, only to fall short and fail. There’s that sinking feeling in your stomach and a hollowness in your chest that even the deepest breath can’t fill, and you’re left wondering how you could have possibly failed when you were so ready. Most people would simply say, “Better luck next time.”, and you would nod and go about your way. However, in the back of your mind, you can’t help but wonder if luck really had anything to do with it. Maybe you weren’t as prepared as you thought. Maybe there was someone better who had more experience and was more prepared. Luck is defined as “success or failure apparently brought by chance rather through one’s own actions.” So, when Oprah Winfrey quotes the philosopher Seneca and states, “Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity.”, it appears to contradict itself. …show more content…
I take time to polish my resume, fill out the applications carefully, and follow all the directions thoroughly. I am preparing to get that phone call and preparing to get the job. When the phone rings and the speaker asks for an interview, I jump at the opportunity. I was offered the opportunity because I was prepared, because I put my best foot forward. I wasn’t offered the opportunity because the employer picked my name out of a hat or picked my resume up blindfolded. They chose me due to my qualifications and my work
Still in the preparatory stage, review the details given in the vacancy and match up your skills to what they are looking for in a candidate. Pick out ...
Many people say that their luck has brought them to where they are right now, but is that REALLY the case? Probably not. To be honest, they’re probably trying to be humble. Although luck takes a big part in success
Success and failure seem to be pretty distinct opposites, but many times the differences between success and failure aren’t as obvious as we may think them to be. Sometimes a failure can be turned into a success if you are willing to look back at them, and are open to learning from them. Many times, one’s attitude toward a failure can determine whether or not anything is learned from it. Those who remain upbeat and positive after a failure may be able to get something out of it, but those who just don’t think about it and ignore it won’t get anything from it.
When I speak of failure, I speak of putting one’s entire being into attempting a specific task and still not being capable of accomplishing it. Before I took my driver’s test, I practiced driving to and from school almost every day with my mom. When I actually took the test, however, I hit a cone trying to parallel park. A feeling of absolute devastation washed over me, as it began to dawn on me that I would not be showing off my new license to my friends the next day. Upon further introspection, however, I came to the conclusion that there was no one to blame other than myself; and that I may have not prepared for the test as much as I should have.
Failure can cause a torrent of mixed emotions and thoughts. One can begin to doubt their motives for even attempting to succeed at a certain task. Some people may choose to give up after failure, but there are a select few who rise up to the occasion and move forward to try and succeed no matter how many tries it takes. By overcoming those difficult moments in life, it gives a person a sense of accomplishment and pride and that alone is a beautiful thing.
Failure leads to disappointments but sometimes it can result in great lessons and successes. People can go through hard times, but if they stick it out and see it through, the failures and hard times can lead to success. This happened to me recently involving soccer. It was our second game of the high school season, and we were playing Northeastern. I had started the game and after the national anthem and the announcing of our names, the game whistle had blown, singling the start of the game. The first half went by slow it seemed to never end. With the end of the first half we were tied 0-0. The halftime talk was not very positive, understandably, considering we weren't playing well. Then the whistles blew again and we took the field to start
According to Sherry and Zinsser there are different forms of failure that can stimulate success. Sherry focuses on traditional failure, one easily known to everyone as “flunking,” arguing that “most
When I think about my past experiences of when I failed many scenarios come to mind. Us as humans beings are bound to fail at one point in life but its how you learn from them that makes it a fundamental. I came to a realization that all my past failures have played a huge role in my life, all of which have been either a lesson or an eye opener. The most vital scenario is when I failed to make the grade point average (GPA) required by my school to run track my first year entering high school. This event played a major role in my high school life.
Throughout my life I have failed many things. Some of them were big things and others were minor ones. A great example of a failure I had was my first wrestling match. I started participating in wrestling my sophomore year of high school, and I had no idea n how to do anything. I would go to the wrestling room every day after school to practice and try my best to get better. The practices were not easy, it required a lot of mental and physical strength to be successful at it. When I started I was having a hard time getting used to it because my mental strength was not as strong as my physical strength. Eventually I got used to it and practices became easier. I started to get my confidence during the practice wrestling matches we had with fellow
During my eighth grade year, I thought I was failing math and that I was learning nothing from it. Everyone was good at one particular subject in math and I was the worst at it. Then there was one subject I happened to be particularly good at and most other people had struggled with. I failed most of the tests and I had a chance to retake them. Math was the only class I was making a “B” in. When it came time to take the math EOG, I expected failure. Instead, I made a four on the
Time management: Skills are similar to both of above skills. You need time management skills to complete the tasks on time. Well organised and having the right tools for your task helps you to complete the task on time and avoid the waste of time. To manage time you should have a dairy worth you or you can note down on your mobile/computer.
Everyone, even doubters, know what the feeling of failure is. What separates the failures from the successors is mere persistency. Doubters lack the right attitude, and give up after so little effort. Doubters think they can accomplish anything they put their mind to, but when faced with failure, they find it easiest to forget it and move on to something else. Ralph Marston, writer and publisher of the Daily Motivator, quotes, “Doubt is merely a thought, when experience proves it wrong, it will quickly go away” (www.greatday.com).
Secondly it is very evident with all the success stories around that you don’t achieve it by coincidence. One needs to have big goal in life and that fire and passion to succeed for that goal. As Les Brown says- “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars”. Oprah Winfrey didn’t have the resources or the people who could help with achieving her goal but she had the most important thing, the will to succeed from the very beginning.
In today’s society, I believe most people are infatuated with the mindset of being a perfectionist and with having that mindset, at the first sight of failure, people get very frightened and begin to run away from their goals and dreams, believing they did something wrong. I believe that is the exact opposite of how that situation should actually be handled. When one is met with failure in any situation, instead of wallowing in self-pity, use it as a tool or learning mechanism to get better in the future. For one to be truly successful, I believe failure is a necessary part of that because it teaches one what needs improved in the future, it keeps one humbled, and is mostly always temporary. When a situation presents itself where success is not fully apparent, instead of just taking that as a failed attempt and nothing more, use that as a guide for what does not work and what one can do to succeed the next time around.
I believe that every up there is always a down. To speak, life is so full of twist and turns that you never know where your going to end up. Whether it be from getting fired, skipping a test, or even making a bad decision, it is failure that helps us to understand what mistakes we made. Its alright to make mistakes. Making mistakes is human.
