There is at least one situation where it is better to sacrifice appearance for reality. The situation is drug use. In this situation, there are three reasons why it is better to sacrifice appearance for reality. First, Drug use is only a momentary pleasure. Second, the continued use of one drug will eventually cause you to use other drugs. Finally, Continued use will cause long term effects that can and will ruin your life. Let’s say a high school teenager has never done a drug once in his life. However, he becomes friends with a group of individuals whom invite him to a party. Once he arrives at this party he walks into the party and realizes that everyone in the party is doing drugs, but they “appear” to be having more fun than he knew …show more content…

Going back to this situation, let’s say that the teenager denies the pill because he just doesn’t want to be pressured into doing drugs simply because everyone else is doing drugs. There could be someone else at the table who could have felt peer pressured into actually doing the drug, but by you simply saying no, this decision could make an immense difference. Secondly, there are numerous side effects to drugs. Some of which include: drowsiness, dizziness, insomnia, seizures, muscle weakness, and death. Why would someone want to risk all of these side effects for a momentary high. It may appear that everyone is having an amazing time while taking these drugs, but most people only observe what is happening during this time. Think about what happens when this person returns to a homeostatic level in which he doesn’t feel the drug anymore. If he/she begins to experience any of these side effects, this person will more than likely begin to take more and more drugs that will prolong the momentary pleasure and sterilize the side effects they may be feeling. This leads me to my last reason why someone should sacrifice appearance for reality. This last reason being the possibility of addiction. The majority (if not all) of drug abusers will state that they began with a simple drug, but then they wanted something stronger, something that would keep them higher, longer. The urge to find something stronger leads to addiction. Addiction is where the long-term effects begin to play a part in one’s life. Long term effects include: financial instability, memory loss, paranoia, schizophrenia, death, etc. All of these thing could simply be avoided if the high school teenager just, as I stated earlier, said no to the drug at the
