What’s more important, a human life, or an animal life? It may sound sad but, animal testing is vital for the survival of the human race. The human race should be able to test on animals, if it concerns our own survival, even if the animal might get hurt, or die. A researcher named Frankie L. Trull said, “Thanks to animal research, many diseases that once killed millions of people every year are either treatable or have been eradicated all together.”
Animal testing has eradicated many diseases that once threatened the human race, like rabies, anthrax, and cardiovascular diseases. Thanks to animals like mice and rats, which are mainly used for testing, the cancer survival rate has gone up. Most animals that are tested usually have short life
spans. Many people think that these animals are treated horribly, but laws have been established that animals can’t be treated inhumanely. Animals actually have to be kept healthy and happy to get better, more accurate results. All in all animal testing is vital to our human survival, many human lives have been saved by testing on animals. Consider that more animals are killed in horrible ways, and are raised in much worse conditions, to get your food on your table. What if your family member or child died by some disease that could’ve been curable by animal testing, how would you feel? Would you want to save an animal or a human life? The answer is simple really.
Medical sciences are required to keep us healthy when there are diseases spreading and animal testing is a key part of this research. Animal test is not wrong because it is the only way to keep ahead in the arms race against disease. Disease keep changing and evolving so scientist must keep researching and making stronger, more potent medicines to combat them. Thus we must use living creatures as test subject for the medicines.
The first pro to animal testing is that it has helped us create lifesaving cures and treatments. The California Biomedical Research Association released a statement saying almost every single medical breakthrough has resulted in the direct use of animals in the last 100 years. Can you believe this? Taking out dogs pancreases helped us discover insulin, chimpanzees helped us get a vaccine for Hepatitis B, and even the polio vaccine was tested on animals. It even helped us develop anesthetics, pacemakers, and cardiac value substitutes. Almost every cure for any condition is due to animal testing. Without animal testing, we may not have been able to find many of these cures and find cures for other conditions in the future.
