I’m a student at Tompkins Cortland Community College this is my first semester as a college student. I plan to go to college for four years and only be at TC3 for this one semester, then transfer to a four year school. College has grown around the world more than ever and more people are attending college more than ever. I have chosen to go to college because of the rewards after graduation. Yes it is another four years of school but by getting more education and an extended degree gives me more opportunities for better jobs and more money. There is an innumerable amount of reasons why I am choosing environmental science as my major as I enter my freshman year of college. As long as I can recall, I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of nature, while learning new factors of the ecosystems. I was not always certain of what I wanted my career to be, but I was sure I wanted to help others. At a glance, accounting might appear as a repetitive cycle of preparing and examining financial statements. However, a brief exposure to accounting has taught me how chaotic it can be for accountants. An accountant captures and represents the information of businesses. By reviewing financial operations, an accountant helps a business run efficiently. This profession can be intellectually stimulating and rewarding. After learning about accounting, I cannot help but be interested and desire to work toward a degree in accountancy. In my studies, I have learned accountants require a plethora of qualities to be successful. And to mature from a student to a professional, I must resolve to strengthen my weaknesses. I did not want to go to Hinds Community College at first. Like my high school classmates, I wanted to go straight to a four-year university, but I was indecisive. It was my parents’ idea for me to go to Hinds, and I am still thanking them for that advice. By attending Hinds, I saw myself grow as a person, created a strong network, and made transferring to a four-year college less stressful. I can confidently say that shy is not the word that people will used to describe me. With a small campus, I have ample amount of opportunities to put myself out more. As a high school draws nearer and nearer to finishing and the college is just around the corner I am beginning to realize why I am going to college in the first place. In the aspect of accounting, I have learnt how to record the transaction in the petty cash and justify which accounts should be recorded. I have also acquired how to update and maintain the general ledgers base on some bank statements and vouchers. In the aspect of auditing, I have learnt how to perform the transaction test and cut off test and how to record the transactions accurately. I also acquire how to prepare the director’s report, audited financial statement. For example, I am responsible for preparing to audit a company independently which is an invaluable experience for me. I needed to prepare the audit plan, justify the audit risks, perform the vouching and transaction tests and check whether the company have any subsequent events. I have also acquired to audit based on the bank confirmation, voucher and minutes. In the aspect of tax, I have understood how to complete the profit tax return and tax computation and know how to hand it to Inland Revenue Department. In the aspect of and company secretarial, I have learnt the procedure of changing director, annual auditing, changing the shareholders and so on, know which forms should be prepared and where the forms should be handed
My interest in Accounting and Finance stems from wanting to understand how governments and businesses make their vital decisions to be profitable. Studying this degree, will allow me to gain an understanding of financial accounting, management accounting and taxation providing me with skills to analyse data and develop my decision making.
