In order to pursue a career in medicine, you must first go medical school. For this essay, I decided to discuss the necessary requirements for admission into the McMaster Medical Program or the Michael G. DeGroot School of Medicine. Before I can apply for medical school, I must first get a university education. I can prepare for this in high school by planning ahead, and taking the required pre-requisites for my university program of interest. I can also plan ahead by ensuring I keep my options open for a variety of different post-secondary programs. Currently, I am interested in biomedical engineering, and have planned accordingly by taking the necessary pre-requisites for that program, as well as some other courses that allow me to keep my options open in case I change my mind. Another thing I can do at a high school level to ensure success in the future, is to pay attention in class, work hard to learn the material, and have good grades to get into those university programs. I can also get involved in programs outside of class, and network, so that I can develop relationships and skills which can potentially lead to jobs in the future. They are looking for well-rounded students, and any students with a university education are able to apply. However, they specifically want self-motivated, responsible, and independent students in their program. I can ensure that I meet these requirements by getting involved in different activities outside of class, and taking on leadership opportunities whenever possible.
