Athletic Training is a profession where people are given the opportunity to take care of others on a daily basis. They take care of others by: being available in emergency situations, provide therapy and rehabilitation, they help to prevent injuries and illness, they give diagnoses, and act as a resource to patients. Athletic Trainers want what is best for the patients they work with. Overall, Athletic Training is a career that helps people develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The classes I have taken that go towards the Athletic Training major have really intrigued me. Kinesiology has helped to inform me on muscles actions, origin, and insertion. First Aid and Emergency care has made me feel confident in acting in emergency situations. Introduction to Athletic Training has been a great way to clearly understand more about the program and career path. Learning all the tapings and other procedures, like spine boarding, and also observing other Athletic Trainers has enhanced my interest in Athletic Training and has made me want to become an Athletic Trainer even more. I want to become an Athletic Trainer because I would love a career that would allow me to help people everyday.
I feel it would be a very rewarding career path to take. I believe it would be powerful to work with and observe the transformation of patients going back to the activities they love to do again. I personally have appreciated my Athletic Trainer, from high school, because she helped me recover from several different injuries that I have dealt with in the past. I would like to give back to others what she did for me. If given the opportunity to become an Athletic Trainer, I feel that I would be a beneficial resource for patients in the process of improving their health. Even after they have finished recovery, I would still want to be a resource for them if they ever had any questions about their health. Another reason I would like to become an Athletic Trainer is because of the environment the work in. The environment includes hands-on work and is spontaneous. Athletic Training involves a large amount of hands-on work like the on the spot emergency care and rehabilitation. I like that because it allows me to stay focused and in tuned with my surroundings. Athletic Trainers also tend to work under different circumstances everyday. There are a variety of things that an Athletic Trainer may or may not do on a given day. It keeps things interesting because you never know what to expect when you come into work each day. I would appreciate a career that would bring spontaneity into each
day.

Most jobs in athletic training field requires a bachelor degree from an accredited program but having a masters degree or a doctorate degree from an accredited program increases one’s chance of getting a better job or qualifying for an affluent position in one’s company. I would like to enter the University of Charleston’s Athletic Training Program on the basis that I love being around sports and I enjoy working with and taking care of athletes.
