Dear James Smith, I am glad to hear that at young age of 14, you are very interested in politics. As you may know I am proudly the representative for our state, Georgia’s 7th congressional district. It is not easy being a congressman; however nothing pleases me more than to serve my country by helping our district as well as being a part of the United States Congress. In the simplest form I am responsible for representing the folks of District seven like yourself, your family and friends. Part of my responsibility as a representative is to help with the drafting and voting of the legislation in the congress of the United States. Even though I am responsible for such work I cannot do this all by myself. As a representative of our district, I need to spend a lot of time with people like you and your parents in order to understand what we as the citizens of the United States need for our bills. After I have discussed with what the people want, I have to decide on whether to vote for or vote against the bills that come before the House of Representatives. After the end of the second year I must be reelected in order to continue as a representative. Since raising money is also required with the job in order stay as a member, it is important that I raise enough funds by devoting my time evenly throughout the term. I believe if most of the fundraising is done at the end of the term there would not be any focus on the responsibilities and duties which is not ok. Instead by allowing myself to raise funds equally throughout the term I am able to spend time on my responsibilities while raising funds. For example to raise $1-2 million for reelection I would try to raise 41,000 thousand every month until reelection day. With the help of constituents that agrees with my views I can raise enough funds to help me be reelected for the next
