The United States Marine Corps is a Branch of the U.S. Military that specializes in Aquatic warfare. That means that they are trained to fight from land to sea. They are one of the oldest Branches of the U.S. Military which dates back to November 10 1775 in a tavern named Tun Tavern in Philadelphia. They have been in every major affair in American history from the Revolutionary war to the now and upcoming events in the middle east.
The job of a United States Marine is based upon what their MOS is...a MOS is a MIlitary Occupational Service which means what their specific job is in the Marine Corps. For an example a type of a job would be infantry which is a job where brave men and women risk their lives defending American ideals and go into battle with America's enemies. Of course that's not the only job the Marine Corps offers there are many others that are pretty much civilian jobs just in the Military uniform. There are many jobs that are on base with the families of marines, so in a sense it is it's own city just filled with Marines …show more content…

There are two different paths a young Marine can go through in the Marine Corps...those are the Enlied and Officer. The Enlisted path starts when a young Marine goes through basic training from either Paris Island in South Carolina or Camp Pendleton in California. The Enlisted ranks start with Private and ends with either Sergeant Major, Master Gunnery Sergeant, and The highest Enlisted rank which is given to one Marine is Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps which is the advisor of the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Officer ranks start with Warrant officer, and Warrant Officers are previous Enlisted Marines that are promoted to officer ranks and end at Chief Warrant Officer 5. Regular Officer Ranks Begin with 2nd Lt. and end with a 4 star General...one 4 star General will be appointed Commandant of the United States Marine Corps and he or she is the Highest authority in the Marine
