Fail to Succeed
(Hook) You are a failure were the words said to me one chilly winter in 2015. (Building Sentences) The words continue to bring pain to my heart. So even as I write the tears trickle down my face. So what is the definition of failure what does it mean to fail? (Credible Supportive Sentence) According to Cambridge Dictionary failure is “the fact of someone or something not succeeding” (Cambridge). As I pondered the definition, over the past two years, I lived determined to use the words failure as motivation to fulfill my goals (Thesis Statement). In reflection, I set five goals to while completing my graduate degree in Baker University Masters of Liberal Arts healthcare administration

During my academic career at Baker University, I made it my mission to strive for excellence. I have heard mixed reviews if a high-Grade Point Average is necessary. As for myself sustaining a 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) is the intrinsic reward for due diligence in the graduate school program. Additionally, maintaining a high GPA motivates me to work harder to keep my grades at a high level. The GPA is the difference between being good or outstanding in performance.
Since my passion is healthcare, I believe I should be the best in my area to care for the public as well as stakeholders in the community and abroad. Thus far I have achieved the goal to sustain my GPA. However, I am certainly taking the last two courses may present long working nights to support my grades. Therefore it is critical I put my time and energy into effective communication and writing.

What exactly is failure? It is, according to the dictionary, “Lack of success.” Many people say that “failure isn’t the falling down, but the staying down.” But who are we to say? Lack of hope, the thought that death and failure are one and the same, and a pessimistic outlook on life can cause someone to fail, but thankfully not everyone falls victim to these. Failure is always controversial, because people view things and events differently. As Elaine Maxewell once said, “My will shall shape the future. Whether I fail or succeed shall be no man's doing but my own. I am the force; I can clear any obstacle before me or I can be lost in the maze. My choice; my responsibility; win or lose, only I hold the key to my destiny.”
Success and failure seem to be pretty distinct opposites, but many times the differences between success and failure aren’t as obvious as we may think them to be. Sometimes a failure can be turned into a success if you are willing to look back at them, and are open to learning from them. Many times, one’s attitude toward a failure can determine whether or not anything is learned from it. Those who remain upbeat and positive after a failure may be able to get something out of it, but those who just don’t think about it and ignore it won’t get anything from it.
Failure is described as "lack of success". Success is defined as "the accomplishment of an aim or purpose". If failure is lack of success and success is to accomplish an aim or purpose, then I have failed a lot of times in my life. I was well-raised in a little island called Dominican Republic. I am proud to be Dominican.

Failure is one aspect of life that no one can avoid. The terror that comes from failure is that it has the power to break someone down to where they feel they can not get up and overcome the situation. Failing at a situation seems to make all hard work vanish in an instant, as if all the time and effort that was put forth into succeeding was never even there. Although failure can hurt and cause anxiety and even depression, it also allows a person to discover that even though they have been crushed they can still conquer it and succeed in the end.
In Failure Is a Good Thing, author Jon Carroll refers to failure as a learning experience. Carroll explains that failure is needed for growth, that failure may keep a person “on their toes” so that they may never get too comfortable with what they are doing. He also goes on to state that failure is something that we should all strive for, ironically, in order to feel a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. Carroll refers to his family, his friends, and his own experiences with failure and how they solidify his beliefs. Jon talks about his job as a columnist and how every week someone’s column has to be the lesser column.
Have you ever failed to achieve something because others were stopping you from obtaining success? A man by the name of Henry Ford was able to make his dreams become a reality because he overcame the obstacles that would have stopped him from being a very famous and successful car industrialist and also the founder of Ford Motor Company. This incredible man once said “when everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it”. This wise quote or “aphorism” is basically stating that you can’t let anyone stop you from obtaining your goals or dreams. If people were to apply this aphorism to their life, then not only will they be able to achieve success but also become leaders in society.
Professional Goals I would like to pursue a career in healthcare administration, which is my ultimate goal. From there, I would like to work in a hospital setting where I can be of assistance to a larger population. Another goal I would like to achieve is earning a master’s degree in healthcare administration. While a bachelor's degree is needed for entry-level positions, a master’s degree can help me advance in my career and provide opportunities to work in certain areas that require this particular degree. Additionally, I would like to improve my communication skills, as it is an essential aspect of healthcare administration.
My personal mission is to improve people’s lives through medicine and care and make world a healthier place by using my skills and coming up with innovative ideas to manage healthcare organizations. My short term career objective is to complete my Masters degree in Administrative Science with good grades which will reflect in my resume. “Man is an animal that lives in language as a fish lives in water and so written communication is just one of the ways that man can survive through” (English scholar Annie Dillard). Writing is a skill to give information. Like all skills, it is not inborn and so it needs to be learnt. To give information you need good communication skills including the ability to write simply, clearly and concisely (Harris & Cunningham, 1996).
Failure happens when something isn't successful. Failure is a thing that all people can learn from. Failures can be used as lessons so that the failure will not be repeated again. One of my greatest failures in life that I've experienced and learned from would be from the time of my first grade year. I didn’t take school seriously when I was in the first grade and made terrible grades. After this failure, it made change the outlook on school and I started trying. I learned that I need to take school serious or else I will do bad in school. This failure lead to success in school and I started making good grades which will help later on in life.
Failure. What is it to you? For me, failure is the lack of change when I make a mistake. My third grade teacher, Mr. Ramirez, had used the quote “Un error es uno que no se no corrigen,” through the school year, but I never understood what it meant. On the last day, Mr. Ramirez explained the phrase as “A mistake is only a mistake if you do not fix it.” I didn’t really see its importance on that day, but by the end of fifth grade, and I was getting ready to leave elementary school, I realized the significance of Mr. Ramirez’s proverb.
