Well before we can make a change to something we must understand how it works, and how it was meant to function. Before I attended college, I was naive to some of the things I am now aware of in my community and surrounding neighborhood. With my knowledge of business and marketing I want to be a part of the rebuild in the rise of African American businesses in the African American community. Explaining an instilling in them the skills and techniques that can take their hopes and dreams transform them into something tangible. Along with social entrepreneurship and the resources that it provides with networking comes the chances of unseen potential and possibilities that can progress even more with in our community extending to our youth. Slicing into some of the struggles they face today in a forever changing world. …show more content…
To help them understand and process the world they see and help them find their purpose as to what lies ahead of them while also explaining the many challenges that they will face and how to persevere through them. Giving them that ability to be able to look past their circumstances to reach better ones. I recall times when either I was a part of a sports team or a club and when things got frustrating and people started to lose their cool and breakdown I would just have to jump the situation and break down our next course of action assigning roles while taking in account the strengths and weaknesses of each person. Taking more of the challenging parts for myself just so when the dust from the team meltdown settled we could come together and would have had met our goal. That's all it really comes down to, is was I able to reach and complete what I set out to
1.) In addition to excelling academically, Ron Brown Scholars feel a deep commitment to use the tremendous opportunities afforded them to give back to others. This is manifested in their dedication to personal involvement with the RBS Program and the hands-on community service work performed by each of the Scholars. A strong philosophy of the Ron Brown Scholar Program is that individual service on the grassroots level has the capability to affect great change on a global scale. With so many issues facing our communities today, what issue would you like to see addressed by our group and how would you leverage your potential position as a member of the RBS community to develop a solution?
A three generation African American family of five living in a small, substandard apartment in the city of Chicago faced many obstacles in order to thrive. Blacks often felt that they could “be somebody” when they saw the growing shopping districts, parks and lake side beaches as well as theaters, ballrooms and fancy hotels (Mays). While great strides had been taken in ...
... The "unprecedented access to higher education and employment" (African American np) that African Americans have been party to since the Civil Rights Movement speaks strongly to the opportunities for change that this country affords its citizens. However, the value of the struggle cannot be lost on us. We must recognize that such fundamental change does not manifest itself overnight: it is achievable only where a lasting commitment to it is available. Change is not beyond us. Action, however, is its necessary predecessor.
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is a prime example of Woodson’s argument on “miseducated” blacks. Although Thomas benefitted from programs like affirmative action, once he reached the high point in his career he supported legislature to end such programs. Hampton University and other Historically Black Colleges and Universities must take it upon themselves to teach their students the importance of contributing to their communities once they graduate and enter into the business world. Colleges like Hampton, Howard, Spelman and Morehouse have the opportunity to produce professionals that can restructure and save the black community. Students who graduate from these institutions have the resources and knowledge that are needed to revive the African American community and their economy. Black colleges must educate their students on the need for black businesses, role models and the importance of staying connected to their culture and community.

The issue of black success in a corporate world such as America is best understood as one of culture and ethnicity. Generally, success in business demands a certain personality and level of ability, just as does success in politics. A quick look at the current status quo of power and authority in the business world will prove that. But existing societal conditions remnant of the evil specter of slavery have created a persona within the common black identity that is fundamentally opposed to business success. Nagel writes: “Culture is constructed … by the actions of individuals and groups and their interactions within the larger societ...
In sources of strength, the members are chosen as someone who would be a person anyone could come up and talk with if they were having a bad day. Also, as seniors we have two seventh grade kids that we mentor. I do this because I remember how hard it was being a seventh grader and not really knowing much about high school. Once a week we sit down and talk with the children. I always love the stories they have to tell and I truly feel blessed when I can help with anything they are struggling with. Whether that be something in school or something at home, it is so fulfilling talking with them. This activity has taught me what it means to give back to a school and to these kids who need my help. I love service and I spend a lot of time trying to help others with problems. Sources of strength has let me do just that. I have learned what it means to be a leader. This is a large responsibility I do not take lightly. I know the actions I do will have an effect on others, so I try to make sure those effects are positive at all

...gue officials conducted various surveys regarding the number of African American employees in several types of jobs. These surveys showed, on average, a very low percentage of African American employees in many, if not all, of the job types the Urban League surveyed. In response to this low percentage, Urban League officials and members created several programs to assist African American youth and adults in having success with obtaining higher education and steady employment. With their efforts, the Detroit Urban League has opened many doors for the African American citizens of Detroit which were previously thought of as unattainable. As the services and programs offered by the Detroit Urban League continue to grow and evolve, the positive impact the Urban League has had for many of the African American citizens of Detroit will continue for many generations to come.
They have generated this new understanding of what it is to live rather than live the simple ways of society where you go to school, job, and family. They’re the ones who suffered the abuse, drug addictions, and all the negative aspects of society.
Not only do we need to understand the ‘issue’ or ‘societal problem’ that many people face and are impacted by every day, but we need to meet and work alongside those whose daily realities are shaped by injustices, while not creating any divides or barriers in the process. Everyday people are affected by the issues that organizations fight for or against, and once we realize how people-centered things like advocacy, outreach and service are, I believe young people will realize their call to action and their potent...
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” Martin Luther King Jr. The keys to advancing the black community lies solely on the black community. The black community induces power and creativity, yet do not asses the right tools to advancing our communities. If African Americans acquired proper educators throughout all levels of school by teaching authentic African history and American history, it would allow future black leaders to have a vivid understanding of their origin. It is imperative that we endure quality in our schools and reformed initiatives of student ranks. Endorsing HBCU’s and teaching at these institutions enforce strength in the mind from blacks. The key lesson I got from Greg was the fact that you need dedication to be a successful entrepreneur. Working with a team you can trust is crucial to your businesses success even after maturity, having the staff trained in all key elements of the business allows you to ensure smooth operation even with the loss of a core employee. When you empower and train your employees you allow them to do their jobs to the best of their ability without direct supervision, allowing you to focus on other business ventures and personal pursuits. Learning and listening to staff, associates, customers and suppliers allows you to gain valuable insight on your operations, and gives you the knowledge to take appropriate action based on their input.
