The major reason of Brutus's choice of fighting at Philippi was the tragedy of his wife's suicide, it was just after Brutus has heard the news of his wife's death. When Brutus suggests that they meet Antony's forces at Philippi, it is interesting that Cassius disagrees, arguing that it is better for the enemy to seek them rather than them seeking the enemy. Cassius was better safe than sorry, he wanted to make sure that he would win the battle at Philippi, but Brutus was highly driven by his wife's death, revenge changed Brutus, but it made him a stronger person, and Portia's death made Brutus feel that he had nothing else to lose and he could take more risks if he wanted to, and that Portia is not a distraction for him anymore
