Why banning these book will be a good benefit. These books need to be at a level of maturity. Bad things can happen from these inappropriate things. The strong language can affect little kids. Banning books will be a good thing for some readers. Why these bad books should be at a level of maturity. “There's many different levels for everyone”. It means their can be many different kinds of levels of books. It's important because their could be levels which kids should not be at. Their can become many problems from these books. It's important because people can do these bad things in the real world. It is well known that books read by adolescents are somewhat inappropriate in certain ways such as language and the types of actions done by the characters. Some books consist of drugs, sex, and violence which obviously isn’t very appropriate nor does it consist of positive values. It is easy to see why some books ar...
...etter than ignorance. Book censorship should not limit the amount of knowledge a child can receive, instead, books should be used to benefit children in their education and future career.
What is a banned book? A banned book is a book that has been removed from the shelves; it could be from a library, classroom, or even the bookstore because of its content. A book could be banned for many reasons, but it could be banned because it contains sex, violence, inappropriate language, religious viewpoints, witch craft, and many more things because other people deem it inappropriate. When someone bans a book they ban it for everyone else too.
“It’s not just the books under fire now that worry me. It is the books that will never be written, the books that will never be read. And all due to the fear of censorship. As always, young readers will be the real losers” (Blume 1999). Judy Blume can not explain the problem of book censorship any clearer. The children are the real losers because they are the ones that are not able to read the classic works of literature which are the backbone of classroom discussions all across the United States.
Throughout history, books have majorly impacted the societies in which they were written. Many of the most significant classics in history were challenged or even banned by the people of its time. Great novels, such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, have been through their fair share of challenges over the years. People of the 1800s had very strict standards that are very different from ours today, and they did not appreciate it when those beliefs were tested. Three of the most common reasons for challenging books throughout the centuries are sexuality, profanity, and religious beliefs. The question that arises from this information is: what values did the society of the 1800s hold that made them feel these topics were offensive enough to ban books containing them?
...ading the novel. The teacher should always listen to input from the parents of their students, and should make the parents feel comfortable discussing with them the problems they see with their child reading a certain book. There should always be parental consent when reading a book so that the parent will be able to discuss with their child their views and issues on a certain book. Discussion should always be welcome within the classroom for student growth and to confront any issues that may arise. When following these guidelines, teachers can prepare their students for the future real-world problems that they will be confronted with.
The first amendment of the U.S. Constitution states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances (Buchanan).” With the banning and the challenging of books all over the U.S. I believe that our first amendment is being jeopardized. We should be allowed to read whatever we want to read it is our right according to the first amendment in the U.S. Constitution with freedom of speech.
What is the difference between challenging and banning a book? To challenge a book is part of the process to ban the book which means to remove the materials. But why do people banned and challenged books? People, and or groups, have good intentions when they challenge a book. They are doing it to protect children of harsh information and difficult ideas, but shouldn’t everyone have the right to read whatever they please? In my opinion, they should! By examining sexuality explicit, offensive langauge, and unsuited for certain ages it is clear that some books have been banned, or challenged.
The subject of censorship is a very controversial one, especially the banning of books. Many people believe they must protect themselves and others from the "evils" of many classic books and works of art because they can be deemed "indecent" in one way or another. Many believe that this is absurd and censorship in its current form is a violation of our First Amendment right to free speech. Personally, I align myself with the latter, however I do feel there are occasions where censorship is justifiable.
This article addresses some of the reasons that censors attempt to remove books from the curriculum: Many censors feel that works are not age appropriate for students.
` Do you think books should be banned because of romance and sexual language? “Over 1500 books are banned because of sexual lanes.” (“Banned Book Numbers”). ” (“Banned and challenged books by the numbers. In the above quote, it talks about books being banned because of sexual language.
Think about the latest book you read. Was it scary? Funny? Dramatic? Now think about it in more depth. Did it seem offensive to you? Use bad language? Or talk about tough situations? You could be easily reading a book that many people in the world want banished. “Reading is the key to future success; it builds vocabulary, it enriches the imagination, and it opens new worlds.” (Book Banning 50) Books have been around for thousands of years, and they help us develop our writing skills as a nation. No book is safe from the judgemental people in our world today. Even the most innocent books still get challenged or banned for the silliest reasons. Reading is supposed to be entertaining, or a hobby for certain people. We shouldn’t have to “tip-toe” around certain books, because they are “not suitable for our society.” We should be able to read what we want, even if others don’t like it. However as Sarah Yung mentions in her article, “Local Ban on Books Stirs up Controversy on Censorship,” “Some people attempt to look on the bright side of book banning: claiming that, at the very least, banning awards those books attention from their intended deprived audiences.” (Yung 1) This is not what censors want, they think banning books is better
Are authors and readers rights infringed on when books are banned? Numerous books like To Kill a Mocking Bird, have been banned from schools because of profanity or controversial opinions such as religion or sex however, it is against the first amendment to ban the books based on the language and should be based on age group or parental permission to read the book. Many books placed on the banned book list have a lesson to be taught but the lesson is lost if the book is banned. Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mocking Bird has been placed on the banned books list but should be read in schools because it is against the first amendment to ban and also shows the importance of moral education and seeing the good in evil times.
Banned books have been an argument that has been discussed for better or for worse. Whether it's to change its society, to heal the education system, or to increase imagination. People argue that banning book is the best for society, thinking that taking away negative idea will improve communities. In reality it will have a negative impact because it causes rebellious acts, it is why banned books week takes place the last week of september, celebrated in schools and libraries.
Censorship is a barricade to knowledge which blocks many authors and artist works from the world. When someone has something to say about a topic they speak how they feel because it's in our first amendment, but what if we weren't able to say how we really felt. Authors, directors, musicians, and artist are all groups of people who write or show us what's on their minds and they work hard day and night so they can get a message across the world and they will not hold back on how they truly feel. While these people are spending hours making masterpieces it can all go down the drain when one parent finds something disturbing with the work and getting it banned so no one can see it. I have read many books that have been banned in the past and they might have had a couple bad words or gruesome descriptions but its not worth
