Why Americans should have longer vacations and more holidays
Americans deserve longer holidays and more vacations. The United States is the only developed country in the world that doesn’t have a mandated paid vacation days or holidays. In the European Union there are laws in place that mandate a four week vacation for their employees. Austria leads the pack with the most vacation days a total of 22, and 13 paid holidays.
The United States is the second-most productive developed country in the world using GDP per capita and has no mandatory vacation time, some might argue that vacation time reduces workers’ productivity. With the United States just coming out of a recession the majority of employees are reluctant to use any or all of their vacation time. Workers say they lack support from their bosses for using vacation time, or can find the right moment to take a vacation. With the unemployment rate still remaining high most companies are keeping staff to a minimum, and the average salaried worker is performing one and a half times the workload that they would normally handle. This leads the American worker to try to bring as much value to the company that is possible, and to also show the company that you’re a team player. Close to three quarters of the American workers tend to often check in with their employer while on vacation every day, or at least periodically. Employees are also reluctant to take vacations for fear of going deeper in debt, and not being able to save for future needs. In Niall Ferguson’s essay “America’s Oh Sh*t Moment,” he mentioned America’s newfound unemployment work ethic. The statement was quite interesting to me because from my perspective, it is accurate because the majority of Americans do not want to work. They would much rather sit at home all day and watch television. Unfortunately, most can not sacrifice their jobs due to financial circumstances. Furthermore, I will use the idea of work ethic to write my paper by comparing America’s work ethic to India’s. Despite the fact that India is a third world country, most Indians have a stronger work ethic than Americans. America is known for many things. It is famous for its sports, fast food, and of course Hollywood. Yet it is infamous for being the home to millions of workaholics. It is home to millions of people that literally work themselves to death . This country is plagued by nonstop work, and it is a disease that has no cure.
As a person who has worked since the age of 16, continuously without very many breaks in between, it can be easy to feel burned out after a while. Typically, Americans are allowed a two-week vacation after 1 year, and any time after 25 years, up to 5 weeks. This can indicate that the majority of Americans spends a substantial amount of time at work, as opposed to being with their family, or having time to themselves, thus aiding in a stressful lifestyle. For example, it has been stated that “people continually exposed to high levels of stress in their jobs may pay a price in their well-being (Etzion, 2003, p. 214). The American work ethic is something our country should be proud of. Since the days of George Washington Americans have worked hard for what they believe in, what they need, and what they want. It is our right as Americans to be able to work for these ideals. Without out a strong work ethic our country would crumble. From businessmen to politicians a strong work ethic is necessary to keep our country financially and politically stable.

Fall is the best season of all. Fall is the only season where the leaves change to a lot of different colors. It is not too hot like summer. Snakes start to go into hiding. I love that the most, because I get to go hiking through the woods.
In recessions of the past the American worker was laid off with the impression they would be rehired as soon as demand for goods and services were presented again. Now people in jobs from computer programmers to telephone operators are losing their jobs and never returning to the same field again. The big issue here is that if we continue outsourcing specific jobs overseas we could erase a whole industry of job opportunity from the American people. Economists say the framework of the U.S. labor force has been changed due to past outsourcing of jobs by this country. The more outsourcing that continues the more our job force’s structure will change. As a result, the American worker can no longer wait to be rehired into the same job or profession. Using their time while unemployed, Americans are retraining themselves and attempt to step into an entirely different career.

However, it is up to each state to declare its own holidays. Just because there is a national holiday does not mean employers have to give their workers the day off.
The working class is being severely exploited and abused. They are treated as mere puppets. They have to pretend as if the factory job is perfect for them when consumers or inspectors visit them. They are being severely oppressed. Most of the workers are too young to be employed.
Company today doesn’t have a strong employee’s policy about the benefits and rules that are putting in place vacation, personal day, and sick day. To prevent absenteeism human resource have to researched in how important they human capital to they organization. They should separate the different department needed and how it effect productions when they is high absent from delay work. Usual company is not very clear about when to use your vacation and personal day. Also when to call out sick, what are the guideline?
There are thousands of things I love, but vacation is on the number one list. Many times over the years I have taken vacation time; It was only a while back, when I realized how amaz-ing, and the great value it gives the sole and body. There have been times when I felt not wanting to leave my work, whether it’s financial problems or among other things. Other times I thought my work was at a decisive juncture and it wouldn 't get accomplished without me. All profession-als or employees know that the money does not just make itself unless they are there to make sure everything is going according to their policy. I know I am not alone in making excuses not to take a vacation. When I asked a couple of my co-workers, they also agreed on not even taking a week off for the entire year, some even included holidays.
While there are many side effects of Americans lack of time, a major one may be the way it can affect our mental health. “America has the highest rates of anxiety and depression” (K. Johnson, personal communication, September 2017). It just so happens that America “swallows half of the world’s antidepressants” (DeGraaf, Wann, & Naylor, 2014, 98). There is a link that can be seen between America’s anxiety and depression rates and the lack of time they have.
