Picture yourself in the Unsinkable Titanic. All of a sudden, there was a deafening bang! Stress levels increase as well. Screaming and fleeing are the sounds of the crowd. Everything seems a bit hazy. You suddenly lose consciousness. When you awaken, you find yourself aboard a lifeboat, cruising away from what appear to be the Titanic's remnants. You wonder what happened and who was to blame? One more reason that the Titanic sank was because mirages and hazy horizons were created by weather conditions. I know this because in the text “Why Did the Titanic Sink?” paragraph #8 it said “British historian Tim Maltin, claimed that atmospheric conditions on the night of the disaster might have caused a phenomenon called super refraction. This bending of light could have created mirages, or optical illusions, that prevented the Titanic’s lookouts from seeing the iceberg clearly.” Also in paragraph #8 it said “It also would have made the Titanic appear closer, and smaller, to the nearby ship the Californian, causing its crew to assume it was a different ship without a radio, preventing them from attempting to communicate. From their vantage point, and with these hazy conditions, when the Titanic started to sink, the Californian’s crew would have thought it was merely sailing away.” This shows that it may not have been anyone's fault except mother nature herself.
