Our thoughts provoke us, yet our choices define us. In the play“Macbeth”, written by William Shakespeare the story of the rise and fall of a nobleman, turned tragic hero is told. Shakespeare wrote of a man who had the ability to be a great leader, but let his overly ambitious and cruel choices define him. Macbeth was an army man, who fought bravely in the war and returned to be told prophecies by three witches that he will one day be that he will become King of Scotland. This evidently excites Macbeth until realization dawns, that The current king (Duncan) will appoint his son as heir to the throne. This leads Macbeth to kill Duncan to attain the role as king, and thus brutally murder all that get in his way. In the final act of the play, Macbeth is finally killed by Macduff in rebellion against his political rule. From the very beginning of the play til the end we see the progression of Macbeth as a character, through the decisions that he made. From the series of strategic murders to gain political power, to relying heavily on the witches and their predictions, and to finally the unjust murder of Macduff's family, all these choices had a large impact in his inevitable fall as both a man and a leader. …show more content…

One of the earliest decisions Macbeth made was to kill King Duncan, as a means to gain political power. However following these events, many become suspicious of his doings, resulting in him killing numerous people, including his own friend Banquo. Furthermore, Macbeth used strategic killings to gain trust, power, and more, this action displays the over ambitious, and thoughtless nature that Macbeth took on through the play. as he did whatever means to prove his value. This action can be considered highly selfish as he prioritized his desire above the lives of those who trusted him. This is best seen when Macbeth
