In the book Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson, Tyler was blessed with the newfound ability to be popular. Tyler was recently in big trouble for graphiting his school. He had to work and do community over the summer where he found himself getting ripped and in good shape. Once Tyler came back to school he instantly became popular. The girls were all over him and he had a lot more friends. Their was only one problem, he was never popular before so he had trouble coping with it. He is also blamed for a lot of things he didn't do, this led to bigger problems for Tyler. He makes many mistakes but learns his lessons or in other words, learns from his mistakes.

many things he didn’t do. Many people think that since Tyler graphited the school that he would do other things like ruin the football field. He also makes some mistakes with his girlfriend Bethany. He and Bethany's brother go back and forth with each other in this book. They get in fights and Chip gangs up on him. For example, Chip pushed Tyler into Bethany and Bethany fell and broke glass. Towards the end of the book Tyler realizes if he dates Bethany he has to deal with chip, so he begins to just ignore him. Tyler also gets caught up in some stuff with his family. Him and his dad don't have a good relationship and they fight all the time. All Chips dad cares about is his job. These are some mistakes that Tyler made throughout the book and what he has to do to either solve them or deal with them. Throughout the book Tyler is also blamed for a lot of things that he didn't do. This makes him very angry and gives him stress because he isn't a bad kid. He is blamed for taking naked photos of Bethany at a party and he didn't do it. Also their school's football field got vandalized. Everyone thinks that he did it since he was the one that graffitied the school. He just has to learn to cope with all the people that keep bringing that up to him. Tyler is lucky he had a nice friend Yoda and a good girlfriend Bethany because he always goes and talks to them when he needs to talk about his feelings. This is how Tyler has to deal with all the people that blame him for doing stuff that he didn't do One major and scary event in this book was when Tyler tried to commit suicide.
I personally think that he could have have dealt with this situation better, not just go and end his life. I know that he was going through a tough time but I feel like he could have just had a meeting with his parents or a counselor to talk about his stress. I think he should have just went and talked to his mom about what he was going through. But instead, Tyler was overwhelmed with stress so he wrote a suicide letter. Then he ran up into his dads room to get his gun. Thankfully he just didn't have it in him to pull the trigger. Also he tried to jump off a roof but again he didn't have it in him again. Tyler instead goes out with his friend Yoda, and they go to the batting cage to hit baseballs. He takes out all of his anger on each baseball he hits. This is how Tyler's friend Yoda helped him when he needed it.
This is how Tyler deals with alot of his situations and how he learns from his mistakes. Tyler was just an ordinary high schooler until he became popular. As you can see Tyler becoming popular didnt really turn out all that well. I think that Tyler learned the lesson to not take being popular for granite. He thought that since he was popular he could start to mess with Chips friends and he could yell at his parents more and skip family dinners. As you know, this did not turn out good for Tyler and he paid the price of being blamed for a lot of things and not having a good family
relationship.
Though people say “First Impressions are Important”, it is more important to not judge someone based solely on first impressions, as getting to know someone new could help develop a better understanding of one’s self. In Delusion Road, by Don Aker, Willa Jaffrey, a spoiled popular girl, had started grade 12 with a kind boyfriend and a ton of friends, though within minutes of starting school, Keegan Fraser, a new student, had angered Willa and her friends. However, soon after she got to truly know him, she began dating Keegan, and her life began to change as she discovered herself – Changing into a kinder person and realizing the troubles everyone else was facing. Her self-discovery
The Geeks Shall Inherit The Earth is a book by Alexandra Robbins which summarizes the story of seven different teenagers that have many different problems, which many of todays teenagers also have. I found myself having many similarities to the teenagers in the story, for example, when with her group Whitney, the popular bitch, thinks “You didn't day that when we were alone, but now that you're in front of a group you do” (Robbins 21). I can relate to this because I feel as though many people are pressured to say or do things they normally wouldn't whenever they are with their group or ‘clique’. Robbins has this idea that the freaks and geeks, or “cafeteria fringe” will someday grow up and use what they are criticized for to become more successful than the other peopler people. She calls this the ‘Quirk Theory’ (Robbins page 11). This helped me to learn that right now, in high school, not being ‘popular’ may seem like the end of the world, but the reality of it is that after these four years, it wont even matter, but what will be important is how you learned to grow as a person and the true friendships that were made. This makes me want to focus more on my education and learning to grow as a person instead of focusing on how many friends I have or who I sit with at lunch, because truthfully it wont matter once high school is over.
"Be not afraid of greatness. Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them." -Shakespeare Over the course of the book, Surviving the Applewhites, by Stephanie S. Tolan, Jake, a bad boy, achieved greatness with the help of the family he was living with, the Applewhites. Jake had burnt down his old school in Rhode Island and no other schools were willing to take him in, except the Applewhites. The Applewhites school is called the Creative Academy, which is run by the Applewhite adults. The children can learn or work on any project they want, and they are very unorganized. Jake is the outcast there, though, because he smokes, cusses, and hates not having a TV or video games. It is extremely hard for him to adjust. Jake was inspired to be great because of threats, opinions of his actions, and discovering his passion.
Having a better mindset could have changed his whole life around like the author Wes Moore. Carol S. Dweck states, “Other students believe that intelligence is something through effort and education. They don’t necessarily believe that everyone has the same abilities or that anyone can be as smart as Einstein, but they so believe that everyone has the can improve their abilities”(1). I believe if the other Wes Moore or even the author Wes Moore knew about how they could manage their mindsets they both could have done good and not had to been going through rough paths because both of them didn’t know how to behave and stay out of trouble at the beginning of the book Wes Moore states how both Wes Moore where dong bad and causing problems that disappointed their loved ones. Maybe if they were a little interested in changing their lives they would have tried better to try to change the mindsets they had, with that being said having a growth mindset, which is a type of person that is willing to learn stuff because they want to and not because they have to. I were to be in there situation I would have been thinking positive and proving people that you’re not that bad guy everyone thinks you are, that you could change for a good person especially to
Everyone has their memory about their adolescent period, whether they only studied or were one of disorderly students. Among those rebellious teenagers, some of them study diligently and tend to change themselves after they notice that they were going to the wrong way. In the book Dooley Takes the Fall, which is written by Norah McClintock deals with this kind of teenager called Ryan Dooley. Dooley, Rhodes, Beth, Dooley’s uncle are the main characters of this story, and it takes place in an urban setting. In the beginning of the story, Dooley witnesses a death of a person from a ravine, and the person is founded as one of the students who goes to Dooley’s school, Mark Everley. At first, the police say that Mark’s death is suicide, but Dooley is suspected by the police as the juvenile delinquent after he gets involved in his peer’s another death, and a smash-and-grab accident. This story plays out as Dooley tries to prove his innocence and changes himself from his past. The author wrote this book because she wants to show people the real life of teenagers, and how those disorderly students changes throughout his or her life by showing appropriate setting, fair narrative point of view, and symbolic title.
Andy goes back to school and talks to his basketball coach about how he feels about Rob's death and how his fiends and family feel about the accident. In addition, they discuss Andy's sentence because Andy keeps punishing himself for Rob's death. Everybody at school was crying during Rob's memorial service. Grief Counselors from downtown come to the school to try to get the kids to share their feelings.
The main character of this book is Susan Caraway, but everyone knows her as Stargirl. Stargirl is about 16 years old. She is in 10th grade. Her hair is the color of sand and falls to her shoulders. A “sprinkle” of freckles crosses her nose. Mostly, she looked like a hundred other girls in school, except for two things. She didn’t wear makeup and her eyes were bigger than anyone else’s in the school. Also, she wore outrageous clothes. Normal for her was a long floor-brushing pioneer dress or skirt. Stargirl is definitely different. She’s a fun loving, free-spirited girl who no one had ever met before. She was the friendliest person in school. She loves all people, even people who don’t play for her school’s team. She doesn’t care what others think about her clothes or how she acts. The lesson that Stargirl learned was that you can’t change who you are. If you change for someone else, you will only make yourself miserable. She also learned that the people who really care about you will like you for who you are. The people who truly love you won’t ask you to change who you are.
In conclusion to this analysis of these characters they go together where the resolve is Jack coming to the conclusion that he had truly taken his life threw a complete twist and in all seriousness didn’t want to experience being Tyler. So what do Tyler and I have in common besides similar views on relationships? Quite a bit, actually. Tyler was raised by his mother. His father abandoned them early in his life and only had sporadic contact with his son. I, too, was raised by my mother. She divorced my father early in my life, and he made little effort to further his involvement in my life from that point forward. " If you're male . . . your father is your model for God. And if you never know your father, if your father bails out or dies or is never at home, what do you believe about God?" Also from Fight Club. As you can see, I really connected with this novel.
STUDENT - A tragic hero finds his psychological mistakes himself. He goes discovering his mistakes – what is the problem with him
The main themes of the story are loneliness, materialism, and freedom from society. Tyler was created because of the lack of connection the narrator had with the people around him. The narrator was lonely and attended so many support groups because of it. He was not rejected at the support groups because the members thought he was sick just like they were. Materialism is a reoccurring theme as the narrator mentions how he has worked his entire life for the Ikea items in his apartment. He tried to fill the void in his life by buying worthless, meaningless stuff. People spend too much time working for things they do not need. The narrator comes to the conclusion that, “You are not your job or your possessions.” Only once a person realizes that can he or she finally let go and start living. “It’s only after you’ve lost everything,” Tyler says, “that you’re free to do anything.” In order to be free, we must not care about the stuff we own. Our whole lives are spent working to pay for stuff. If we did not have stuff to pay for, we would not have to work as hard and our time could be spent doing something more meaningful.
During my sophomore year at Garden Grove High School, there was a friend of mine named Toni who was different from everyone else. Gifted with a photographic memory, he concentrated all his time to study and helped out other people. Including his looks and being favored by all of his teachers, he was sure that he would be very popular and well-known in high school. Unfortunately, Toni found it was very shocking to learn that he was despised by all the football and basketball players whom he longed to befriend with.
It has been shown that he is highly intelligent, easily trusted, great at building relationships, and very adventurous. But, he is very dangerous, self-destructive, and may not be entirely sane. However, the fact cannot be denied that Tyler’s personality has many faces, like that of a well-cut jewel. Throughout the story Tyler can be seen as almost sociopathic, having the façade of a highly intelligent man with his almost catalytic personality only open behind the scenes of normal society. As the story is read, we can see that the character of Tyler Durden was carefully constructed by the author, thus allowing him to truly become what this story is all about:
