In literature, blame is used to give full responsibility to others in attempt to make yourself look stronger by shifting fault. Most of the time, blame is used when we fear an outcome that is not favorable. In the story of “Romeo and Juliet”, written by William Shakespeare, blame is used to hide the truth and underlying meanings of the characters. Blame is thrown across the pages of the story in many different ways so a reader gets lost in the pointing of fingers. This causes readers to lose track of the truth at hand and forget the fact that Romeo and Juliet are dead, but no one really knows the exact reason why. By taking a deeper look into both Romeo and Juliet’s life, readers will see the darkness that brews within their living situation. It seems as if Juliet’s life is perfect and royal, but if you read a little deeper, you will see that she does not have a perfect life at home. The story flat out explains that her father is verbally and physically abusive, but readers skip over that fact because they are reading on the surface of the story. Juliet’s situation at hand has a major impact on her decisions and is to blame for her death. Similarly with Romeo, readers will read that he is a love sick kid who just wants to find love, but they miss the underlying fact that Romeo uses women to sleep with them and is never actually committed. When Rosalind breaks up with Romeo, he become upset that his “lover” left him and feels as if he needs someone else to rebound with. The situation Romeo is put in when broken up with forces him to feel a need to fulfill his loneliness, meet Juliet, fall in love, and die. Their situations are to blame for pushing both kids to rush into something that might have never been anything at all. When readers take this into consideration, they have to wonder if the love between them was actually real or if it was just a way for Juliet to escape her home and Romeo to become satisfied. Their long lasting feud made the impression that the opposite family is not to be fratanised with and they should never be able to fall in love. On Juliet’s side of the family, the Capulets, she is abused by her father and her cousin strongly urges her to never speak to Romeo because he is a Montague. Eventually, Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt, gets enough of the growing love between Romeo and Juliet because he knows the two families are not supposed to have friendly encounters, and he decides to duel with Romeo. Romeo, having just married Juliet and is now part of the Capulet family, does not want to duel with Tybalt, but when Tybalt kills Romeo’s friend, the duel is on. The feud between these two families drives Romeo and Juliet to sneak around to meet. In return, they plan to escape together in order to be free of their families and end up dying in the process. Romeos side of the family, the Montagues, also believe in no friendly contact with the Capulets, but Romeo can not deny his love for Juliet. He ends up giving up the Montague name in order to marry Juliet and live with her forever. Tybalt still will not allow this and he decides to duel Romeo in which Tybalt perishes. The hate brought on by Tybalt forces Romeo to rashly kill Tybalt and have Juliet decide to have them run away, which does not happen.
