Who is the most to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet? There are many opinions on who is to blame for the deaths of these "star crossed lovers." One of these opinions is that both Romeo and Juliet are equally to blame for their own deaths. Romeo nor Juliet knew how to resolve their own problems and went directly to Friar Lawrence. Whenever Romeo and Juliet failed to resolve their problem, their resolution was suicide. Romeo and Juliet also withheld the love affair between them, from their families. Shakespeare introduced the audience to Friar Lawrence, in act one, as Romeo's mentor. Juliet was introduced to Friar Lawrence for her marriage to Romeo. Since the day Juliet met Friar Lawrence, she went to him for most of her challenging obstacles, "Tell me not Friar, that thou hear'st of this, unless thou tell me how I may prevent it." This quote shows how Juliet couldn't resolve her own problems, she depends on Friar Lawrence for her own fate. With resulting to Friar Lawrence all the time, if his resolution did not work she wanted to commit suicide. She believed her only choices were, trust Friar or commit suicide. Lord Capulet defends Romeo by telling Tybalt to "let him alone," because Lord Capulet did not want his party disrupted. Lord Capulet continues to defend Romeo and tries again to stop Tybalt. Lord Capulet has resulted into violence as Tybalt refused to respect him, allowing Romeo to "woo" Juliet. That night Juliet proposes marriage to Romeo, and they marry the next morning. The following day, Romeo goes to meet Mercutio and upon arrival Tybalt approaches and challenges Romeo to a duel. Romeo refuses because Tybalt is secretly his relative by marriage, although he did not tell Mercutio. Mercutio did not understand why Romeo would not fight Tybalt, resulting in Mercutio fighting Tybalt, which led to Mercutio's death. As a result of Mercutio's death, Romeo was enraged and killed Tybalt, leading to the banishment of Romeo. This is an example of the lies withheld from the families of Romeo and Juliet, causing death and banishment. If Juliet confided in her family of the love she had for Romeo, perhaps the Capulets and the Montaques could have mended their life long feud.

Juliet is then buried in her family's tomb and when Romeo goes to the tomb, he drinks actual poison and kills himself because he cannot bear to be without Juliet. After he dies, Juliet wakes up and sees that Romeo is dead so she stabs herself to death. Friar Lawrence is the one who caused all of this. Friar Lawrence makes three mistakes in this play. WHO IS THE BLAME? Good afternoon, my fellow audience. I am here today to persuade you on who I believe to be the character most responsible for the death of the two main characters in the play, Romeo and Juliet, a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. It is almost an ironic play because of its open and easily known ending, but yet its ending raises the controversial question, WHO IS TO BLAME FOR THE DEATH OF ROMEO AND JULIET? I believe every character in the book contributed to their deaths, even Romeo and Juliet themselves, but Friar Lawrence bears a monumental deal of the blame because he was the principle and most reliable adult that could have steered the ‘inexperienced’ couple, but his incompetency led Romeo and Juliet to a violent death.
Although there are three different things to blame, Friar Lawrence is the person that is overall responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence played a huge roll in everything that led up to their deaths.
