Courageousness of the Three In the epic poem The Iliad there are many courageous individuals. Well, they specifically ask whom is the most courageous of Achilles, Hector or Priam. There are many different many ways in the poem that show each of their courageousness. In my opinion Priam is the most courageous over all. Priam is most courageous because he took it upon it upon himself to go from his territory to go ask Achilles for his son’s body. Priam is most courageous by his actions. He is very humble in the poem. He only wants his son’s body (Hector) put to rest in a respectful way. So he takes it upon himself to travel to go to Achilles and ask for Hector’s body. Priam begs for Hector’s body he “... knelt down, took in/ his arms Achilles knees, and kissed the hands of the wrath that killed his son” (ln. 283-286). Priam does this even though he knows Achilles could just kill him just like he did Hector. This is why I believe Priam is most courageous. He is putting his own life in danger to go beg for his son’s body back from one that has killed his sons. …show more content…

Achilles would never do the things that Priam does for his loved ones. Achilles did kill Hector for killing his best friend but he is also immature and just reacts to how he feels. Achilles does not think about his actions. Therefor I do not classify his as or more courageous as/than Priam. When Achilles killed Hector he tampered and mutilated his body. He broke a major rule, Achilles, “Behind both feet he/ pierced the tendons heel to ankle. A dust cloud rose above the furrowing body…” (ln. 247-250). This makes Achilles somewhat courageous but not nearly as courageous as Priam. Achilles would definitely be classified as immature than courageous because he knows what he has done but he truly does not
