Inside a body far, far , away there was a white blood cell named disgrace. Disgrace was always teased and bullied by everyone for being, well a disgrace . Disgraces’ mother, who was intoxicated with alcohol at the time of giving birth to him (alcohol consumption during pregnancy is not a good idea), had given her newly born son a surprisingly faultless name. Disgraces’ only had one real friend who was obviously someone in the same boat , this blood cell was another ill-named white blood cell named, “ugly poo,” this cell had or will have never made fun of Disgraces’ name because his stupid name was just as bad. ( this is true friendship my friends) The two of the poor cells had the worst and most well, disgraceful names in all of the immune …show more content…
When he finally regained consciousness, he was alone, scared he searched his surrounding. There were red blood cells everywhere, no sign of white ones. “Where’d everyone go?” “ mummy?” he shivered quivering as he said each word to no one in particular. “There’s been an invasion in the Brachial Artery!” said a nearby red blood cell he knew as Timothy as he flew past him. “oh ship!” Disgrace shouted. “I hope in the name of my Grandfather it’s not HIV.” Because according to some legends that got told around in stories, there was a virus known as a “Human Immunodeficiency Disorder,” which there was apparently no cure for at the moment just treatments to boost the immune system.. The virus had already infected the macrophages and microglial white blood cells cunningly and slyly without anyone knowing “What a cunning FISH!” , and used those white blood cells to replicate more of the virus, until there wasn’t enough healthy white blood cells (aka good blood cells except Luke and those hoodlums) left to fight viruses or unwanted bacteria in the body. It had a latency period of up to eight years!!!. Now breathing uncontrollably he hastened his journey up to the Brachial Artery, feeling the rush and anxiety he always felt before going into battle with mean and ugly foes such as salmonella or the
Patrick Dismuke was a teenage boy who had been a patient at Hermann Hospital all his life. He suffered from numerous health defects, including blood-clotting problems, malnutrition, and infection. On his journey, he learned to love the hospital, even more so than his home (perhaps due to the slight abandonment by his mother). He loved his doctors and nurses (most of them) and frequently spent his childhood playing games around the nurses’ station. The hospital staff equally loved Patrick, letting him watch movies late at night, allowing him to eat junk food, and answering his late night calls when he was lonely. Patrick’s love was so strong that he infected his own main line, the line leading directly to his heart, with
In 1615 at the age of 37 Harvey became the Lumleian Lecture specializing in Surgery. William Harvey discovered his finding of the Circulation of Blood by ignoring medical textbooks and dissecting animals. He gained all or most of his learnings from observations of cutting open veins and arteries of living animals. Many people of this modern time thought because there weren’t any anesthetics that Harvey was cruel for cutting open living animals. I think that if it wasn’t for William Harvey and all of his studies and dissections that we wouldn’t be able to learn teach and save as many people as we can today. We as people have learned a lot from the many studies and dissections throughout Harvey’s lifetime. We have learned that blood, arteries, and veins are all within the same origin, blood in the arteries sent to the tissues are not stay there, the body‘s circulation mechanism was designed for the movement of liquid and that blood carrying air is still blood, the heart moves all movements of blood not the liver, hearts contract the same time as the pulse is felt, ventricle’s squeeze blood into main arteries, the pulse is formed by blood being pushed into arteries making them bigger, there are no vessels in the heart’s septum, lastly there is no to in from of blood in the veins there is only
Carl Zimmer the guest speaker of this broadcast states that in 1981 doctors described for the first time a new disease, a new syndrome which affected mostly homosexual men. The young men in Los Angeles were dying and the number of cases was growing faster and faster. The number of deaths was increasing from eighty to six hundred and twenty five in just the first few months. After the first few cases in LA, AIDS was declared to be one of the deadliest pandemics the world had ever seen after the plague in the Middle Ages.
Many of the subject’s were twins, mostly identical. Twins when through the worst of the surgeries, including blood transfusions. Doctors drained one twin of his blood and inject it into the other twin to see what would happen. Blood would be drawn from each twin in large quantities about ten cubic centimeters were drawn daily. The twins who were very young suffered the worst of the blood drawing. They would be forced to have blood drawn from their necks a very painful method. Other methods included from their fingers for smaller amounts, and arms sometimes from both simultaneously. The doctors would sometimes see how much they could withdraw until the patient passed out or died.
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) was first recognized as a new disease in 1981 when increasing numbers of young homosexual men succumbed to unusual opportunistic infections and rare malignancies (Gallant49).During this time, many people were contacting this disease because it was not discovered yet and people did not have knowledge about it.Scientists believe HIV came from a particular kind of chimpanzee in Western Africa. Humans contracted this disease when they hunted and ate infected animals. A first clue came in 1986 when a morphologically similar but antigenically distinct virus was found to cause AIDS in patients in western Africa (Goosby24). During this time, scientists had more evidence to support their claim about this disease. Once discovered this disease was identified as a cause of what has since become one of the most devastating infectious diseases to have emerged in recent history (Goosby101). This disease was deadly because it was similar to the Black Death, it was killing majority of the population. Since its first identification almost three decades ago, the pandemic form of HIV-1 has infected at least 60 million people and caused more than 25 million deaths ...

As a result of Jenny becoming a nurse she heard a lot of jokes that were about male genitals. She found this to be revolting because she learned about all of the things that genitals could create, most of which disgusted her. She felt like men were just not useful for anything good except maybe being a sperm donor. After working in the hospital nursery for some time she decided t...

It is over in a matter of days. The victim staggers, disoriented and exhausted, and collapses in a fever. His eyes turn bright red, and he starts vomiting blood. Within a matter of hours, he "crashes" and "bleeds out" surcumming to agonizing death with blood seeping from his eyes, ears and other orifices. At autopsy, pathologists discover, aghast, that the patients internal organs have disintegrated into an indistinguishable mass of bloodied tissue. The killer: A "hot" virus, a highly contagious and deadly microbe that has never been seen before, and has no known cure. (Bib5, CQ Researcher, 495)
Today is the beginning of a new journey, I wake in my home, the bone marrow (where I am made). I get up early in the morning and get ready for the long and chaotic day. I exit my home and try to squeeze my way into Blood Vessel Street, which is always really crowded at this time of day. I stay down this same street until I reach my destination. I work for a company by the name of Immune System Incorporated. I go into the building and where I sign my full name “Basophil Granulocyte”. From there I am giving a To-Do list that I must complete by the end of the day. The first task on the list is to travel down to Skin Street where there seems to be some sort of unknown substance. As soon as I arrive, I get out my tools and get to work. First, I
Paramedics squeeze my arms, staining their gloves a deep red. Doctors and nurses scream at each other as they run across the hallways wheeling me into the operating theatre. I look over to my wrists as clear fluids begin their journey into my veins. My heart is in my throat, my pulse is echoing throughout the room, my limbs are quivering, and my lungs are screaming. Nurses force plastic tubes up my nose, as jets of cold air enter my sinuses, giving me relief. Inkblots dance before my eyes like a symphony of lights. A sudden sleepiness overcomes me and slowly my vision dims.
Bacteria exist everywhere in the environment and have continuous access to the body through the mouth, nose and pores of skin. Further more, many cells age and die daily and their remains must be removed, this is where the white blood cell plays its role.
There have been incidents across time and place that suggest the significance of one’s relationship with his or her mother. These incidents speak more about why these jokes are common in relation to maternal insults. For instance, in many different cultures across the world, insulting someone’s mother is a source of comedy, much like that of the United States and the previously mentioned jokes. On example is seen by an Internet phenomenon that took over China regarding the mythical beast known as the "grass-mud horse". Though the translation does not mean the same thing in English, the insult is universal. The pronunciation of the name of this creature “sounds very much like an especially vile obscenity” (Wines). An insult about mothers; this is just a variation on the command to commit incest with one's mother that appear in every region of the globe. Anthropologists note that, across cultures, the most severe insults tend to involve a few basic themes: an opponent's family, an opponent's religion, or an opponent’s sex (Wines). By making a joke about someone’s mother, a person insults a personal aspect of another’s life. These jokes are used to make an impact and hurt someone on a deeper level and are used in many cultures. Another example is in Mediterranean cultures, where the relationship between mother and son is held as particularly sacred and largely religious. Many common jokes come from insulting this relationship and the three most important parts of the people’s lives. The jokes are relatable, because they mention these important points of mothers and religion. Incest is addressed with potency and jokes stating curses like “gamo ti mana sou”, “gamo tin Panagia sou”, and “gamo to Khristo sou” (f**k your mother, your madonna," and "your Christ," respectively) hold a larger meaning (Legman 172). They are able to discuss key
Not long after in the wake of getting the maladies the gavoccioli would spread over the entire body. The following phase of the sickness was dark or enraged spots on the arms and thighs, spreading over whatever are left of the body in a brief while. Nothing should be possible, most passed on inside of three days; just a couple were ever cured. The epidemic went from the debilitated to the sound, being around a wiped out individual in any capacity including touching their
I will be investigating Human Blood as my specific tissue and giving an overview on the location, characteristics, and the benefits it has to the human body. Blood is extracellular matrix that is consists of plasma, red blood cells, platelets, and white blood cells. Blood is located within the capillaries/veins/arteries of the human body, which are blood vessels that run through the entire body. These blood vessels allow the blood to flow smoothly and quickly from the heart to distinct parts of the human body. The unique parts of human blood all work together for a purpose: the Red Blood Cells(erythrocytes) transports oxygen throughout the body, White Blood Cells(leukocytes) play a part in the bodies immune system, Platelets(thrombocytes) assist in creating scabs,
