What is real? Is the sky real? Is the image you reciprocate from your eyes to your brain that you see in front of you at all times real? Are you real? How can someone be so sure of reality? You cannot, and no two beings on this planet see things in the same light as the other. How we interpret the world is what creates the illusion of our reality. There are not many things we can be sure of besides our senses, our memory and our thought process
Where are your fingers? This question is easy enough that you should be able to answer it, but how do you know? How does anyone know anything? You may say you know where your fingers are while you look at them, touch them, or feel them. Your senses are a great way to learn things. In fact we have way more than the usual five senses we talk about such as sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell. For instance your kinesthetics sense, proprioception. This is what the police evaluate during a field sobriety test, it allows you to tell yourself where your fingers, arms, head, legs and your body is all in relation to each other without having to look or touch other things. We have at least twice as many senses everyone thinks we have, such as, the initial 5 plus balance and acceleration, temperature, kinesthetic sense, pain, time, tactile illusions and then some. Turn your tongue upside down, and run your finger along the outer edge of the tip of your upside down tongue. Your tongue will be able to feel your finger, but in the wrong place. Our brains never needed to develop an understanding of upside down tongue touch, so when you touch the right side of your tongue when it's flipped over to your left side, you perceive a sensation on the opposite side where your tongue usually is but isn't w...

...we or will we ever know true reality, or are we stuck in a world where the best we can do is be approximately true. Your mind is all that you have, and the final stop for all information is ultimately you. You are alone in your own brain, which technically makes it impossible to prove that anything else exists. Everything you know about the world out there, depends on and is created inside your brain. We will never be able to understand reality, answer every single question nor unfold the mysteries of the universe, but walking around in those questions and exploring them is fun and feels good to wonder.

In chapter ten of the book “Problems from Philosophy”, by James Rachels, the author, the author discusses the possibilities of human beings living in an actually reality, or if we are just living in an illusion. Rachels guides us through concepts that try to determine wiether we are living in a world were our perception of reality is being challenged, or questioned. Rachels guides us through the topic of “Our Knowledge of the World around Us”, through the Vats and Demons, idealism, Descartes Theological Response, and direct vs. indirect realism.
Does what one sees and hear in life really mean that it is true? Just because one sees a dinosaur in the shadow, does it mean it is real? In the Allegory of the Cave and “The Matrix” one may question what is real and what is fake.
The great feminist theorist once said “‘Sometimes people try to destroy you, precisely because they don’t see it, but because they see it and don’t want it to exist’” (Mook 195). Support becomes very important for transgender people at the time they transition. Many families support their transgender family members, but society rejects their transition. Many people want transgender people out of their communities. The resource of knowledge seems important to transgenders because it lets them tolerate the ignorance of people. Money plays an important role when the time comes to pay medical bills. In the book Redefining Realness by Janet Mock, She relates the importance of resources. Resources should be important for transgender people because
Realism, in philosophical terms, refers to the concept that there is a reality beyond our perception. This means that how we see things and what we believe about them has no impact on the nature of said things. For example an individual may see an object as blue and another see the same object to be red, this is merely a disagreement between both parties about how they should label the colour. This wouldn’t mean that both parties are discussing different objects, this shows that no matter what individual’s beliefs or thoughts on the real world are only ever approximations and do not accurately capture reality. (O’Brien, M and Yar, M, 2008)
a person believes is real. Often people can put an illusion in some ones head
Does anybody really know what is real anymore I guess we do. Take that your stung by a bee or something else you feel the pain that is real. However when you go to sleep and have a dream that you and a relative that passed away are fishing or something is that real? It might seem that way at that point but you never really know.
As a child, we are raised in an environment where we are taught that our experiences, senses and perceptions tell us that our world is real. Reality for every individual may be different as their experience of life will likely be different to every other person they know. In the perspective of one individual, they might use their senses and beliefs to conclude that the world they are living in is real. This person is living in a world that is real for them, despite the possibility that it is not the only reality that exists. For adults who have gained memories in one world they have known their whole lives, like Neo in The Matrix, it is almost impossible to accept the possibility of another reality. To be able to feel and understand the existence of the things around us through our senses is the closest humans can get to prove the reality of the world in which we live. The human mind is the most powerful thing we know and there is a possibility that it could convince itself of its experiences. When Neo re-enters the Matrix and is able to jump from one building to another, it indicates to him that he was in a false reality. It simply takes the power of Neo’s mind to resist gravity. Neo’s mind told him that he was in the Matrix when in fact his body was in the real world. His brain created an artificial experience. Morpheus mentions to Neo that if somebody dies within the Matrix, they will die in
Truth, what is truth? This question itself has a thousand answers, no person can ever be sure of what truth is rather, truth can be justified, it can checked for reliability with strong evidences and logic. If the evidence proves to be accurate then it can be established that a certain answer is the truth. However, have we ever tried to think about what intrigues us to seek the truth? To think about a question and set foot firmly on the path of knowledge. Definitely it has! That was the very cause itself which is why this world has witnessed some of the greatest philosophers like Aristotle, Plato and Socrates etc. along with the school of thought. The ability to think and reason is one of the greatest ability humans have, it is what distinguishes us from the animals. It is what gives us free will, the ability to control our own outcomes. However, it is that ability to ‘think’ itself which has caused men to rebel with the myths and statements established about the unseen and natural forces since the beginning of time. It gave rise to questions such as: Do aliens exist? Is there a world of the unseen? Life after Death and the most popular question since the beginning of times, Does God exists? And the answer is ‘yes’. Here is how I will justify my stance.
... something when it fact, we never ask ourselves why we know it. We tend to take for granted what counts the most in this world, that is, knowing ourselves. Human beings think that knowledge of things will lead them to enlightenment. But in reality, it is nothing but an illusion made by man himself to create a kind of path towards success. Those who follow this path will get nowhere close to success, rather, they bring upon suffering along the way, pulling us farther from ourselves. Thus, if only we were aware of this deceptive nature of language and metaphor to that of knowledge, we would come to understand that truth indeed is nothing but a man-made word and is therefore a mere figment of our imagination. The facts do not count, only our interpretations of them. So it seems that Reality then isn’t so far from our dreams, perhaps it’s really the other way around.
Reality is something that we humans have a hard time comprehending. We don’t know the exact reason why we live and why we exist but we have many theories that could be the reason. For example, Christians believe that God made the world in six days and that we live as his creations, to worship and adore him. Jose Luis Borges likes to conduct thought experiments with his stories and one theme he uses quite often is the nature of reality. Borges created a perplexing universe in “The Library of Babel” that plays with the idea of never being able to grasp certain concepts because of the limit of what one can perceive.
My opinion? I agree completely with my Aunt and Uncle. Reality is what we perceive it to be and interpret it as . Those perceptions and interpretations are mainly based on our history and experiences, However that does not mean that we cannot change our perceptions and interpretations- it is not easy but it can be done, if you want to.
Reality is a big topic of discussion in philosophy. How you view things may not be how they really are. A schitzophrenicÕs reality is different from the reality of a ÒsaneÓ persons. Therefore I deem reality to be based on experiences, and perceptions. Something you deem to be wrong may be the same thing your friend deems to be right. So does this mean that there really is no one true reality?
"BR: In every sense we create our own reality, and this goes much further than most people aware of or are willing to admit. The reason most people can't see this is because everyone is creating their own reality, but 99.9% of them are creating the same one-using
The universe, and what it means to be alive is almost impossible to define; yet that does not stop humanity from trying. “Lonergan’s philosophy of the human person reveals that being human means having an unlimited number and variety of questions about life and the universe.” (Morgan, 1996). There is no limit on the number and variety of questions the human person will ask, "the most subversive people are those who ask questions” (Gaarder), as a result there are many varied and opinionated answers. This essay will explore three different theories on how one might find answers to life's ultimate questions. At one point or another, every human being has asked the question why: Why am I here? What is my purpose? What is the point? It is in our nature as human beings to reason, to think, to ask, it is what separates us from the rest of creation, and with this ability to reason, we are left with one question: Why? Throughout history many have tried to answer this question, some have come to the conclusion that meaning is found through God, and one’s faith. Others feel that life begins meaningless, and it is up to the individual to give life meaning; then there are those who believe that life has no meaning, and we are all essentially, just waiting to die, "The meaning of life is that it ends." (Kafka).
If there are certain physical and immaterial things in the world, and human understanding is only capable of a finite amount of reasoning and knowledge, then anything real is a set of objective truths independent of our understanding. In the first half of this premise, it states that there are certain physical an immaterial things in this world; this encompasses objects such as grass and houses with affections for others among other unquantifiable things. The second premise makes a quantifiable statement that the human brain can only handle so much reason and knowledge, which is only reasonable. By stating that there and physical and immaterial things in this world and there is only a certain amount of things that humans are able to understand,
