What does the word family mean to you? I think of the word family as an acronym. The letter F stands for fun because they are always making me laugh. The letter A stands for annoying because they are annoying occasionally, but in the end they are always there for me. The letter M stands for mentor because they teach me important life lessons that will help me in the future. The letter I stands for incredible because the are the most loving, caring people I know. The letter L stands for loyal because they always keep my secrets and never talk bad about me behind my back. The letter Y stands for yearly because I can count on them every day of every year. All in all, if I didn't have my family I wouldn't be who I am today. My parents are very supportive in academics and athletics. I play basketball, softball, and field hockey. My parents practice with me so I can become a better player and they show up to every game I have to watch me play, which boosts my confidence. My parents also want me to be a good student in the classroom. They help me with my homework if I don't understand it, and they help me …show more content…
Every December near Christmas time my parents and I meet up with my uncle, aunt, and my cousins. We go to a Christmas tree farm and cut our own tree down. Usually my parents let me pick out the tree and then my father and I cut the tree down with a saw. My mom holds the tree so it doesn't fall on us. Then we get hot cocoa and grab our tree so we can leave. Another tradition in my family is when, on every Easter, we all go to my great grandmothers house and do a family egg hunt. We do it at my great grandmothers house because she has a huge yard and she likes to watch all the kids run around and grab the eggs. During this event we usually grill some hot dogs and hamburgers to eat. These two events are some of the many things I get excited about because I love spending time with these
We dont really have any unique family traditions. The only thing that we seem to do over and over is meet up at an certain family members house and feast. Usually during Thanksgiving it’s the cooler weather. We usually have windbreakers or something of that nature on.
My family had many memorable holiday and birthday celebrations that are still valued by me as I age and move up in life. Before my parents decided to divorce we used to cook all day and night on Christmas Eve and when we finally decided to sleep, or my parents decided, we would wake up at 4:30 in the morning to open presents. I believe that custom is still with me to this day because I still wake up at 4:30 in the morning on Christmas Day. I think that customs depend on the emotional connection. My family would sit around the living room and laugh, talk, and reminisce about different times in their lives. We used to have a big celebration for birthdays and would invite everyone. It was always a personal affair that we would cook for and dance and just have a great time with family and close friends. It was a beautiful thing and it was extremely enjoyable. I cherish those moments with my family and I plan to have those customs and also to add my own customs into my own family one day in the
Every time around Christmas my family on my dad’s side gets together. We always have so much fun together. Between exchanging gifts and just enjoying each others company.
Family has played an intricate role in the development of the society in which we live. The diversity in which families are formed is now becoming even more diverse with the American culture, which is changing at a rapid pace. Diverse cultures coupled with social economic challenges are key contributors to the dramatic change to the institution of family. With these challenges facing the institution of family, this closely tightknit unit which has been the cornerstone of American society has diminishing from a traditional standpoint. Non-kinship family networks like the one described in Karen V. Hansen’s “The Cranes, An Absorbent Safety Net,” goes against the norm of the common institution of family within America. Although the Crane family
The word “family” is unique, special, and controversial among different cultures and ethnicities. As defined by Random House Western Dictionary, a family is “any group of persons closely related by blood, as parents, children, uncles, aunts, and cousins” (Dictionary.com). Although the definition from Random House follows the infamous proverb of, “blood is thicker than water,” my definition of family does not. Family is not defined or restricted by blood relations. In my mind, a family is simply a group of people, who loves, supports, and helps each other unconditionally, and endlessly. Regardless of one’s sexual orientation or preference, all families embody these common principles. Thus, a family unites its members through the strong bonds and kinships formed when people come together. (Great intro.)
Family, a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. Although family is a concretely defined term, the idea of family varies from person to person. But, what makes a family? For those who are surrounded by loving blood relatives, for those who have never known the one to grant them life, for those who have left their blood behind for a more loving and nurturing environment, what can commonly define a family? Family is something defined by the individual. Family includes those who you have come to love, whether platonically or romantically, those you have suffered with, those you have come to respect, and most importantly those you have cared for and in turn have cared for you. To one that could mean people who
When the word “family” is discussed, most people think of mothers, fathers, and other siblings. Some people think of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even cousins and more on the pedigree tree. Without family in people's lives, they would not be the same people that they grew up to be today and in the future. When people hear the word family they think about, the ones who will help them in any way they can whether it’s money, support, advice, or anything to help them succeed in life. Family will forever be the backbone of support.
Every year, my parents add a little more to the outside decorations. My mom, sisters, our children and myself decorate the inside of the house. My mom has so many indoor decorations that they can not all possibly be displayed. We try to change the decorations, which we put out every year. The men finish up just about the same time as, we women and then it is time to decorate the tree together. The children love this the most.
When my pappaw was alive he used to bbq and go shopping all year for fireworks in our old house. We no longer do that now that he is no longer with us. Why i like it is because just watching the lights and celebrating our country and for what is has become. Sometimes we just hang out as a family but that is not happening as much, my grandma is getting older and don't really do as much as before. I remember one time it just has to rain that day, so my mom
During Christmas we gather in different groups of our family and eat lots good food and give presents to other people. We often go to a Christmas ceremony at a church on Christmas Eve. Christmas in my family is an important holiday. What is your Christmas tradition?
In this discussion, I will be explaining how I define family. I will also include my immediate and extended family. I will also describe what family means to me, how mine differs from other families in my neighborhood, and also how they are similar. I will also describe my family’s ethnicity and how it may affect any of my family’s health. To me, a family is a group of people that are brought together by blood, adoption, or marriage.
How can a simple six letter word be so complicated to define? Family is a single word that is open to many interpretations depending on the individual. If you try to condense this ideal to a single clinical definition you end up excluding numerous members of society. What comes to mind when you think of the word family? While in the most broken down and literal sense, family means a relative with a blood or legal bond, the word family can encompass blood relations, adoptions, and even intentional relationships such as friendships. Economies, cultures, and backgrounds can further differentiate what one’s perception of a family is. For many people, including me, a family is so much more. It is the amount of commitment, cohesiveness, and importance
Every year, Christmas isn't complete without my mom's sweet treats and my family's love for food. Some of our relatives visit us on Christmas as it is so timely for little gatherings and reunions. All together with our relatives from a far, we enjoy Christmas eve with our common favorite-
The social institution I have chosen to address is that of family. An individual’s family life, both past and present, can have such a big impact on a person’s life in both a positive and negative manner. It is how we as individuals chose to handle life changing situations that will shape our lives and those around us. Family is such a fascinating social institution to study because every individual comes from a different family background or has a different experience than that of a sibling. You can learn so many things about a person by looking into their family background, origin and what type of up brining they had.
My family is a love I have. My immediate family consists of six people: my dad, mom, and three sisters and me. However, I love these people on a different scale than I love books. Whether it is a hand to guide, a tissue to wipe away tears, or simply a smile to make my day better I can count on people to love me and so, henceforth, I love them in return. I love my parents for many reasons. They are always there for me when I need help or am need of anything.
