Many people find it more satisfying to know that item or product they got was earned by them. People who are always getting what they want will not have that satisfying feeling for what they had gotten because someone or something externally had given them the item they wanted. That is why a lot of people are more excited when they receive what they wanted by hard work, not some other person doing it for them.
It also does save money when someone obtains something through hard work or patience. For example, a man wants a car for college, but he still has time to get a better car. However, he has no patience, hence he gets a cheaper car. After a couple years, that car needs maintenance. Only then he realizes that if he had taken the slightly costlier car, then he wouldn’t be spending so much. This is another reason that people shouldn’t get cheap items.
These are some of the many reason why people shouldn’t be getting products and items cheaply, and they should do the work. Nevertheless, many people want the cheaper way rather than the harder but more satisfying way. In my opinion, I agree with what Thomas Paine had said, it is true that “What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly.” Many times in life there isn’t an easy way to achieve or obtain things, only hard work will

In the book Common Sense that is the feel throughout the book and what I think the majority of the Americans that were fighting wanted along with being their motto. The second book I read called Paul Revere’s Ride by David Fischer had that same common theme weaved thought the book. I think that it is a huge similarity throughout both books. In our contemporary American life we have the desire for things that we do not really need to make us happy. Our commercial world intends to sell us substitutes for the things we truly need in order to be happy. We replace our real needs with things like clothing, furniture, cars, nice houses, and many other unessential items. Many individuals place the blame for an unhappy lifestyle on their occupation, and search out alternatives such as material items. We are happy when we receive things fast, because of our lack of patience, and because we simply enjoy the hassle free lifestyle. Our technological advances have made many things easy for us and it brings us some joy. Examples include that we rather drive than walk, and eat from unhealthy fast food restaurants than cook a meal ourselves. We see advertisements everywhere selling us products to make us happy, however the happiness from sex, food, and excitement are pleasures that are short lived. If we took away all unnecessary items for survival from our society today, could we still be happy? ...

This quote shows our real world, and the people that spend money, but they forget about the value of money. Nowadays people want more that they have. They forget how many things they have, and how much money they spend. Most people when they see other people having something better, and in that moment they want to have it also. Also, people forget how hard they got that money, but how easily and quickly they spend it. Humanity is an intriguing race indeed in the world. We can be careless when we purchase things. We tend to buy things with no awareness of the insane, expensive prices and end up purchasing things to fulfill our desires in fancy malls and stores. Anyways, there are many situations that of course happen within society today with unnecessary purchases.
In society today, everything is about the “now”. Everyone wants something instantaneously. Because of the desire for instant gratification, people are overcome by what they desire which causes them to quench their yearnings by obtaining what they want. For example, an individual that has just graduated from high school and he wants money, so he gets a job at a fast-food chain instead of pursuing a college degree. He wants money now and does not want to pay for college even though he would be making more money over his lifetime in his profession than he does at the fast food-chain.
These words of wisdom were spoken to us in the aftermath of the Pearl Harbor attacks. After this historical event, the people of our country seemed to go into a frenzy. American flags spontaneously appeared overnight, and now you could not step outside without seeing one in the lawn’s of every neighbor. People lined up down the streets, and overflowed recruitment offices trying to enlist. Patriotic songs played non-stop on the radio. In town, the only topic of conversation was the war. Everyone talked about war. The men, the women, the old ladies in sewing circles, the children who played hopscotch outside the ice cream parlor, the convicts, the mentally ill. War was on everyone’s mind.
Based on my own experience, I found that, in my childhood, when I got new toys from my parents, I can be really happy and satisfied, because I was the “taker”. However, when I grew up, and gave my parents gifts, I felt a sense of meaning except happiness, because I was the “giver”. I think it is because society has taught us that giving is a noble behavior. Giving something means making others satisfied and happy. Giving makes society more harmonious. Reciprocal giving can make the world more peaceful. The only way to realize our personal value is to make contributions to society. What about taking? Taking mean acquire something without any cost, therefore, takers are usually happier.
