“What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value.” This quote is by Thomas Paine, a nationalist while America was still a group of colonies. This quote means people will care less for something they get to easily, however things that are more difficult and more time consuming will be cared for and protected. At the time this quote meant that the more America fought in the war the better it would conserve itself and protect itself from dangers.
Many people who get the things they want immediately will not properly care for it and will most likely use it for a short period before they must get a new one. On the other hand, people who work hard or wait for a long time to obtain something will …show more content…

Many people find it more satisfying to know that item or product they got was earned by them. People who are always getting what they want will not have that satisfying feeling for what they had gotten because someone or something externally had given them the item they wanted. That is why a lot of people are more excited when they receive what they wanted by hard work, not some other person doing it for them.
It also does save money when someone obtains something through hard work or patience. For example, a man wants a car for college, but he still has time to get a better car. However, he has no patience, hence he gets a cheaper car. After a couple years, that car needs maintenance. Only then he realizes that if he had taken the slightly costlier car, then he wouldn’t be spending so much. This is another reason that people shouldn’t get cheap items.
These are some of the many reason why people shouldn’t be getting products and items cheaply, and they should do the work. Nevertheless, many people want the cheaper way rather than the harder but more satisfying way. In my opinion, I agree with what Thomas Paine had said, it is true that “What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly.” Many times in life there isn’t an easy way to achieve or obtain things, only hard work will
