“America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.”-(President Harry S. Truman) Today many people ask, “What does it mean to be American?” or “How can I be an American?”. People who do answer those questions tend to have different opinions and others don’t care too much about it. I personally believe an American or to be American is having freedom, showing pride in your country, and having rights but also being American you shouldn’t take it for granted because many people wish to be an American. To be an American one of the importance to it is having freedom. If it wasn’t for freedom, people would not be able to practice their own religion. People would have to convert to one religion and that would make many people mad which would lead to protests or riots. By doing this you must always stand for the national anthem and celebrating national holidays like 4th of July. I believe that when people don't stand up for the national anthem, they don't truly believe in being American and are disrespecting America. Standing up for the national anthem shows great respect for to the flag and the for the military who fight to protect our country and who gives us that freedom to do what we want without breaking the law. I take the flag and and anthem very seriously because without the freedom we have been given by the military, the U.S. would be chaos. There the reason why we have this freedom and they sacrifices to protect us all. I take pride in my country very seriously because someone who disrespects my country or the flag, I will fire back and back up my country for it is the greatest country in the world and giving us equal
