The Evolution of the Camera

Cameras have changed a lot during the last century.It started with a camera obscura and now there are thousands of different cameras in the world. Cameras have evolved a lot and are still evolving today.
George Eastman introduced the first brownie camera in 1900. At $1 a camera and 15 cents per roll for film, it was the first camera that was affordable for the general public. The camera was designed by his camera designer, Frank Brownell to be as cheap as possible while still being able to function properly. In the first year more than 150,000 cameras were shipped. The brownie cameras were in production for about 70 years, and during this time more there were more than 125 different models of the brownie cameras(Kodak, 2013).
In 1948, Edwin Land marketed the first Polaroid camera. It introduced the first instant camera. His first camera was sold for $89.95 which was really expensive for a camera. Then, in 1963, the first instant color film was produced. Polaroid also releases the Model 100 Land camera which is the first fully automatic pack film and exposure control camera. In 1972, they introduce the SX-70 Land camera which is the first fully-automatic, motorized, and folding camera with instant color prints. After about a year, the company is producing 5,000 a day(Polaroid, 2014).
In 1975, Steve Sasson, an engineer working for kodak, developed the digital camera and, in 1990 the technology was released to the public(Harding Collin, 2012). Even though the first digital camera was bigger and slower than the first brownie camera, it was much more advanced technology than the brownie.
