Today, hunting is basically just something that people do in there free time for sport. They take there gun, go out into an isolated hunting area, and shoot various animals. The Most Dangerous Game and High Noon take the idea of hunting to a whole new level. The Most Dangerous Game is the story of a hunter named Rainsford who tumbles off of his boat and swims to the nearest island. This is no ordinary island, however. Here he meets Zaroff, a sociopath general who hunts and kills humans because it is more 'challenging'. In High Noon, a sheriff named Will Kane is hunted down by Frank Miller, a murderer who he had previously sent to jail. It is clear that both stories have details that are specific to that story. "Nerve, nerve, nerve! He panted, as he dashed along" (Connell 231). There are a few parts to the theme of The Most Dangerous Game, but I mainly focused on one. The one I focused on was that, even in a tough and stressful situation, you must control yourself and your actions. Throughout the story, Rainsford is chased by Zaroff through the island, but he makes sure to keep his nerve and think through each step. "Kane will be a dead man in half an hour, and nobody is going to do anything about it" (Foreman 312) I believe that the main point that Nigh Noon is trying to stress is that you cannot rely on people, and your friends will abandon you. As Frank comes closer and closer, all of Kane's friends completely abandon him and force him to face Frank and his friends on his own. It is obvious to me that the themes are not exactly alike, but I did find something else that shows they are similar. Both of the stories show a sort of 'underdog' (Kane and Rainsford) who ends up on top. Rainsford kills Zaroff, and Kane kills Frank. I've got friends here" (Foreman 296). When Kane says this, the first thought is that he is very protective and loyal. This is exactly what Kane is. He is a loyal sheriff to his town. He is also a very good person and will also do what is necessary.
