Another main point that is made in this chapter includes the globalization era. During the late twentieth century, globalization seemed to be at its peak. The world seemed to have been working together. Trade, transportation, communication, and global investment increased astronomically. This era hosted the development of the internet. The whole world was now under watch by everyone because of the technologies that countries have accomplished. Being that nothing was private, countries could not hide what they were doing anymore. Also, the global economy at this time was at its highest is has been. Bigger countries started to invest in smaller, poverty countries. This ensured positive economic development for the smaller countries which helped …show more content…
After the Cold War, the U.S gained its global dominance, the world consisted of less communistic dictators, military personnel and citizen happiness increased, and greater countries were assisting smaller countries. Without America’s dominance, I think that the world would have gone through another world war. The U.S’s help in creating agreements with the Russians helped direct a different approach. If the USSR would have won the Cold War, most countries we know today that are democratic and capitalistic would be communist. With the help of globalization, the U.S used its booming economy to help direct the world into a more positive, human friendly world. Along those lines, because countries started helping each other by investing, citizens became more content with what they lived for. To live somewhere with increasing militia brings happiness. Not having to worry about a devastating nuclear attack can boost a county’s confidence. Also, the economy was booming and people were putting more money back into their pockets. According to Martin Anderson in an article “The Reagan Boom” from New York Times, “net asset values went up more than $5 trillion between 1982 and 1989, an increase of roughly 50 percent.” It is amazing to look back and see how much the countries made. When there is a peak, there always comes something bad that is happening under all the happiness. Problems await its debut as the global economy …show more content…
CNN’s article “Pollution Is Driving Foreign Executives out of China”, by Charles Riley, concerns foreign policy, companies from around the world. They are complaining that they are “having trouble” because of the “rising concerns over intense air pollution” in China. By far, China has the worst pollution problem on the international level. Eventually, global warming will get a lot worse and there will be nothing that we can do about it. CNN states that “greater numbers” of people are complaining about the “choking air pollution, contaminated food, and water”. Some people are taking action towards reducing pollution such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Their main goal is to regulate pollution to a minimum so that operation does not become a risk factor. These actions include a proposal that will enforce reduction of coal. Their proposal states that it is “designed to cut carbon dioxide emission from existing coal plants by as much as 30 percent,” according to the Washington Post. The most difficult part of this mission would be to convince China to reduce its coal burning, as the majority of China’s development is run by coal. As for now, though, the EPA has only focused on U.S and its coal plants. By 2030, the agency seeks complete natural gas plant
The presidencies of George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton both exemplify a desire to reshape world affairs after the ending of the Cold War in 1991 and the subsequent dissolution of the Soviet Union. Although the United States had unrivalled economic and power after the war, neither president sought to adopt the aggressive rhetoric of predecessor Ronald Reagan, as it was feared that this may impair relations with nations that the U.S. wanted to maintain. Both Bush and Clinton considered the fostering of positive relationships around the world hugely important on the basis that it was hoped former Soviet states in Europe and countries in East Asia would adopt a democratic political system and laissez-faire neoliberal economy much like the U.S., thereby ensuring the
To conclude, the cold war had an enormous effect on nearly every aspect of American life. With varying results, some were good and others were bad. I sense that the Cold war was helpful to us as a nation. Russian competition pushed the U.S. toward improvements in technology, military, science, and education. In a world with 2 superpowers the U.S. was driven to be better than the competitor. But now we are alone at the top and there is nowhere to go but down. Hopefully the termination of the U.S.S.R. didn’t open up a spot for a new and better world power to emerge in the near future.
“In the wake of the Cold War, Americans felt it was their patriotic duty to buy consumer goods to help the economy grow. In turn, the U.S. became the world’s dominant economic power” ("Cold War Influences on American Culture, Politics, and Economics").
One of China’s best successes has in turn been one of its biggest downfalls. One of the main problems is China’s greatest success which has been its phenomenal economic growth. This is one of the main drivers of the current environmental problems that the country faces. Factories dump pollutants into the air and water. It is difficult to see the Chinese government making the significant sacrifices required to improve their environment if it means slowing down their economic growth.
...he cold war years has decreased in modern day. All that spending on the military has left America very much in debt. The United States in my opinion became a big bully after the cold war and with the fear of nuclear weapons led much of the economic issues of today.
China’s economy is one very large indicator of its role in globalization. “In 2010 China became the world’s largest exporter” (CIA World Factbook). Without China many places such as the United States of America would be without billions of goods imported from China annually. An influx of companies moving their manufacturing to China has allowed people to flock to cities and find jobs. China’s economy has grown exponentially over the last few decades. In the last three years China’s economy has grown by nearly ten percent every year. Despite this influx of money to China it has also resulted in many drawbacks. For example, China’s environment has been obliterated. China burns more coal than every country in the world combined. Beijing has been so badly polluted that there are actually companies that sell cans of fresh air to people, and gas masks are a common sight. On January 12th 2013 Beijing’s air pollution reached a record setting 775 PPM. To put that into perspective, the scale for measuring pollution is 0-500 PPM. This set an all-time recorded high. In Los Angeles a high ...
After World War II devastated and shocked the world with its horrors and death toll, the need for power consumed the minds of several people. During World War II, countries were fighting to have control and wanted to be considered superior to others or be known as superpowers. After World War II, only two superpowers remained; the United States and the Soviet Union. In the Cold War, they will continue to fight for this superiority over one another, but the cause changed everything. The Cold War was caused by Germany’s and Europe’s division between democracy and communism and the want for superiority by several nations, which affected several nations politically, socially, and economically throughout the world by affecting the government and the people as a result of the war.
... role on the United States economically, socially, and politically. These three factors, although different in nature were linked; the economic failings in America influenced people into racism and discrimination. In a time where poverty was such a commodity, survival became a higher priority than fairness and equality. During the economic depression, the political leaders were shocked and unsure how to act. This lack of aid to the impoverished population encouraged the people to call for political reform. Despite all of the efforts the United States made to remain detached from Europe, confrontation and international business was inevitable. The resources and wealth that the United States is known for made the country a valuable trading partner and a powerful international figure. Even today the United States is the most powerful and influential country in the world.
... This has resulted in increased pollution due to livestock releasing methane gas into the air. And due to demand for electrical goods from western countries, it has helped China to produce a capitalist economy. This has enabled China’s citizens to have a prosperous lifestyle, which has increased pollution due to the increase in energy use and waste production. Furthermore, although the Chinese government and its citizens are trying to tackle their environmental problems, it seems to be too little too late.
Without all the investment in the advancement in technology America possibly could have been without the Internet and possibly its position as the most advanced country in the world right now. Now, globalization does have its down parts, but America has benefited greatly from being a part of the world as a whole and allowing it provide many of the products of today to be able to be sold here and sold at their current prices. Globalization also has allowed for America to develop partnership with other countries even if we aren 't on the greatest of terms like China and etc. Then, though not directly it also provided American citizens to help make their government into provide equal human rights to all through its the effects of Civil Right. Finally, the Cold War helped American government as a whole to become more open to its people and share more information with its people. The Cold War may have lead to many bad events and death of some Americans, but it did help America’s culture and government become what it is today. Though it may not be perfect, but it is most definitely a much better than it was back before
... policies. People will continue to suffer in silence because of the world’s greed. So, while we enjoy our cheaply made goods and over consume the planet into demise, we never know of choose not to know the pain that went into the productions of those goods. Globalization may be championed as a gateway to financial growth for all nations, but only certain nations benefit from it. Global trading and integration has a negative effect on undeveloped nations and developed nations in many ways including; political systems, sovereignty, economy, way of life and much more. Earlier in the essay I asked ‘do the pros outweigh the cons when it comes to globalization’ and from my research I don’t see any real benefit. I don’t believe we should eliminate global business, but better the already lacking regulations and probably increase the standard of living equally for the world.
Countries such as China and Japan need to enforce more powerful regulations on the amount of carbon emissions that they produce. China put in regulations just this last year and Japan postponed plans for a national regulations on carbon emissions, bowing to powerful business groups that warned of job losses as they compete against overseas rivals facing fewer emissions regulations. It’s not a good sign that large corporations can control how a nation regulates its environmental safety laws. China is finally planning to regulate their carbon emissions. This is long over due concerting that China ranks as the world’s number one carbon dioxide emitter, thanks in part to the massive amounts of coal the country burns. China currently builds a new coal-fired power plant at a rate of about one every week to ten days. The country’s coal burning levels are nearly on par with the rest of the world combined.
Effective communication abroad can be difficult to achieve because of the lack of understanding between different cultures. But there are many companies out there who are effectively promoting their products in multiple countries. So, how do they do it? To be able to communicate abroad takes excellent leadership skills from multiple parties.
Using 1997 financial crisis and other examples, discuss how globalization is important to the modern business journalism. Introduction
Economic globalization has changed the perspective on life today. More low class and middle class citizens are able to have access to food and shelter, unlike the past where high class citizens almost everything, while the low class citizens are living in harsh conditions. As many people have a good life, they are able to have a chance to develop advance our technology today. For example, transnational corporation like Facebook and Skype creates real-time conversations online, which is amazing compared to the past where it would take days or even weeks to communicate with the other person when they are somewhere else. Economic stability has been a problem in our economy since the Great Depression, but as we experience them we are able to learn from it and not make the same ...
