Waiting on Your future Americans start school very early in life some go to preschool, but most start in kindergarten, then continue school all the way through high school where they graduate. After almost a whole life of going to school, students will finally graduate as most become an adult. Many young adults have to choose to go to college at this point after having no experience in the real adult world before leaving from the comfort zone at home to try to go get a job that many will not be happy with later on in life. ¬¬I argue that students should be able to take time off before going to college because some people are not mature enough or have enough experience to go to college, some are not sure of their career track, and for some …show more content…
They also come out of high school burnt out, tired, and bored. The idea of a gap year is for students to put off college to take time to refresh and figure out their life plans before starting to early and making mistakes (Danielle). Linda Lee writes in her article, “What’s the Rush? Why College Can Wait”, that the idea of a gap year is supported by a few colleges such as Harvard and Princeton as well as some others, these colleges like the idea of gap year because they believe that it can help students get more experience to make a decision in what they want to do exactly and come back the next year and execute their plans. Students that take a gap year are able to take scholarships from certain organization such as American Gap Association and USA Gap Fairs, which promote gap year. The idea of gap year is to help prepare the students for the next year and also help them become more experienced. By taking a gap year, it also can look beneficial on your application when you take time off gaining experience by volunteering, working, interning, or …show more content…
Although, most of the majority of students entering college straight out of high school, they will be able to achieve their goal of getting a job with a degree faster than others that take the gap year. One of the top reasons many do not take a gap year before going into higher education is just the idea is so unpopular in the majority of Americans whom just want a successful job and future. Students coming out of high school have their minds focused on where they want to end up instead of how they can get there in the most efficient way, but not all believe that the gap year is the most efficient way to a successful future. Some argue that taking of a year can cause the student to become unfocused and cause then to become unsure of what they want to in the future. Also, a gap year can only work correctly if students work in a certain direction with a plan during their gap
Many high school students are unsure or do not want to attend a four year college. These students feel pressured into doing something they do not want to do because the expectations of high school students is to set off for college to become successful in life. Adults paint the picture that without college education young adults will be failures. Adults believe college will make you superior and an automatic success. But that is an incorrect statement. A hand full of students who attend college eventually drop out for many reasons. Some students do not like the campus they are on because it is too distant from home. Maybe they do not like the community or professors that are present at the university. They become homesick
Students may think it’s unfair for some to go to college early and others stay behind, but this could actually separate the students who put in the work and effort to have this opportunity. If able, students should be able to start their lives early at a younger age because it brings about a greater experience. Starting their lives younger could be a great thing to go ahead and make their mistakes that every college student usually
Not being able to go to college is one reason why students’ shouldn’t drop out of high school. If you want a job that requires a bachelor or master’s degree you have to go to college to get. For example; if you wanted to be a Lawyer or school teacher or a business owner you would have to pass your GED test or make the choice to finish high school (“High School Dropouts”). If you still want go to college but you drop out you have to pass your GED test to go to college. If students’ would finish high school it would be a lot easier with a diploma than trying to get your GED to go to college, because if you finish high school with a diploma and don’t have to worry about taking any test to go to college. But if you don’t pass then you can’t do anything college related.
First of all, many high school graduates cannot handle college. Isabel V. Sawhill and Stephanie Owen describe college as a place, “one can obtain a traditional four-year bachelor’s degree”. The work load outside of the classroom could be compared to working a full time job. For example, if a student is enrolled in four college courses and is in class a minimum of four hours the student should spend at least four to six hours of studying. This may be extremely agitating and stressful to a student that is not good at studying. The new college student may realize that the schoolwork is too much for him to handle and instead drop out. In Pharinet’s blog post, Is College for Everyone? He states that “…it is estimated that in the U.S., approximately 50% of students who begin college never graduate. There exist students who are not yet ready for the academic and financial challenges of college. There exist students who do not have the desire for college or learning.” This statement is important because if 50% of students that begin college never gradua...
College these days are extremely expensive. A lot of kids that make it out of high school don't have a choice to even think about going to college, and having a good education. Even if they do go to college, they will be really deep into debt for an extremely long time. It makes it to where a lot of people have low incomes because their only education is high school, and they are almost forced to get factory jobs, or lower end jobs that pay up to maybe fifteen dollars an hour, sometimes even that. In my opinion, I believe college should be paid for, and if not paid for, then the government should at least pay a lump sum of the college tuition to give people a life they want and to help the communities and the world.
magine this, You are either a student or parent of a student, that has straight A's and excels in their classes. The principal calls you to his office to discuss taking high school and/or college- level classes in the 7th grade. What would your answer be? Would you say it's too early for the rigor of education, or would you say that your child is ready for that level of education? If students feel that they are comfortable enough to advance to the next level, they should be entitled to do so. Due to the rigor of college, such as long essays, studying skills, and proper time management, students should start preparing for college early, even in middle school.
Before understanding the consequences of a gap year, it is important to understand why people take a Gap Year. Senior year can be tense and come with several unanswered questions. Seniors are given four options when leaving High School. Those choices are either joining the army, going straight to work, applying to college, or taking a Gap Year. In a journal by Sunny Niu and Marta Tienda, “Delayed Enrollment and College Plans: Is There a Postponement Penalty?” explains some of the reasons why high school graduates tend to not go directly to a four year university. One of the main reasons high school graduates are hesitant to attend co...
Synthesis and Gaps The campaign against crime is a continuing concern. It is a war that the police cannot win alone. Police cannot change the ”root drivers” of crime such as poverty, freedom, unemployment, dysfunctional families, poor housing, moral education, ambitions, civil liberties, and other ills of socio-economic opportunities. Thus, all characteristics of police work should be premised upon active community consent, trust, and participation.
Thus according to me looking at all these options, GAP year is indeed a really good option for students. It thus gives them an option to do things, experience it, which they probably won’t do again in their lives. Also different venues get open, choice of their majors, minors, their future becomes clear. The students realise what they what to do, how they are and what is their motto in life. GAP year indeed makes a student educated not only in one way but touches upon several different things.
I’m here writing this essay to invite people to join my thought(also a school assignment). To begin with, let me tell you the situation. My opinion is how students should be able to choose whatever special they want. This perspective of this debate is like choosing the cheetah in the cat race. Both of which, are obvious decisions. Are you still not convinced? Just read on to take this side.
Should we be able to run to a friends house, or even a nearby gas station to get something that fills us or that we enjoy? We should be able to go off campus for lunch. 86% say yes 14% say no (debate) . Students sit in school all day long and have very few to no breaks to relax and get a break from learning.
And they develop a fuller sense of themselves, undefined by their friends, family, or culture.Gap year is, basically, a half-step out into the world and offers students an opportunity to understand that they can handle it just fine. It makes the later post college change from one thing to another less scarring. The gap year gives a student the opportunity to find out what they want to do do in life and gives them time to think about the major of their choices some students leave high school with one major and then take a gap year and come back with a different major. Gap Year graduates report that through the summary of their new experiences they were better able to identify universities that fit their personalities and career desires to do great things. Finally, while we don 't suggest this as a first or more important, many students do report that taking a Gap Year enabled them to get into better
According to “Facts About A Gap Year,” the definition of a gap year is “a break typically taken between high school and college that might include travel, work, study, volunteering, or research.” Several colleges encourage their admitted students to take a gap year before starting their freshman year. Done the right way, a gap year can help students excel, while if a student completely puts aside their responsibilities, it can plummet their success in college. Students who take a gap year after high school not only mature, but also are prepared for college and the rest of their lives.
Although Maya did not experience any negative outcomes during her year off, she had a lot of positive factors of The Gap Year to talk about. Time was a very big plus for her. Firstly, she believes that during the year a student takes off they could spend that time working. A gap year participant is going to have to fund their schooling some how. Second, she says “a gap year is a good and long enough amount of time for someone to clear their mind.” What I believe she means is that, during high school, or any other kind of schooling one pursues, at one point or another they are going to get stressed. Finally, she tells me how this time gives a student enough time to just sit and clear their mind about any struggles or complications floating around. One would want to go into college with a clear mind and try not to worry about much.
Schools can give responsibility to students but never without a cost. Students should have to chance to prove their worth to schools and show how responsible they can be as adults. When students go to college classes as high schoolers they sometimes tend to have more free time during those times. If a child has enough responsibility to take those classes they should have enough to leave school and be trusted to come back to school after their free time is over. Although leaving school early is not something that is smiled upon it should be because some students are ahead and can work their schedule to allow extra time because of hard work in early years.
