Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002), directed by Phillip Noyce, is a powerful and assertive film, based on three real-life indigenous survivors of this era, known as the Stolen Generation. The film is set in 1931 and tells the story of three young girls who were kidnapped on the government’s authority, forced into an “aboriginal integration” program 1,200 miles from home, and who are determined to run away and make it home on their own by following the Rabbit-Proof Fence.
The film opens with a narrative voiceover in Aboriginal language by the real Molly Craig, describing what she sees from her perspective in the future: “This is a true story. Story of me, my sister Daisy and my cousin Gracie when we were little. Our people, the Jigalong mob, we were

The next day, while everyone is at church, Molly watches from the dormitory doorway as a thunderstorm growls on the horizon. In this moment, she makes a decision. She turns back to Gracie and Daisy, who are on the bed, and says, “Come on. Get your things. We’re going.”
Gracie is skeptical and Daisy fears that the tracker, Moodoo, will catch them. But Molly is an experienced hunter at 14 years old and knows that the rain will cover their tracks. This is the moment. However, their absence is not discovered until bed check at night.
One of the most refreshing surprises in this story is the kindness the girls receive from both Aboriginal and white strangers whom they encounter along the way. The Rabbits by John Marsden and Shaun Tan is a simple but revealing picture book that satirically depicts the historical tragedy of the past aboriginals during the first and last settlement of the Europeans and ridiculing the Europeans behaviour using animal illustrations. The book is set in an indigenous point of view with the specific use of words and illustrations, as the story is told and viewed by the unexpected arrival of an unknown species called “The Rabbits.” This gives the readers an insight of what the story will be about and by using such illustrations that portrays the two as animals will position the readers into showing the emotions felt by the indigenous and the destructive prowess of the Europeans.
Indian Horse is the perfect novel for any reader who does not see positivity in a bad situation. Richard Wagamese magnificently takes the reader into an emotional rollercoaster throughout their reading journey. Director Philip Noyce conveys Webster’s definition of racism in his 2002 film, Rabbit-Proof Fence, by examining Aboriginal racism of the 1930s through the eyes of three young girls: Molly, Gracie and Daisy who are forcefully taken from their mothers by the Australian government; and a man, Neville, who believes that giving half-castes a chance to join his “civilized society” is the virtuous thing to do, even if it means stripping them of their family, traditions and culture. The film follows the girls as they escape from the Moore River Native Settlement, an indentured servant training camp for half-castes, and walk 1,200 miles back to their home in Jigalong. Noyce weaves story progression and character development throughout the film to demonstrate the theme of racism and covey the discriminations that occurred to Australia’s stolen generation and Aboriginal people during the 1930s.

One of the main camera angles during the time they are walking home is the wide angle.
