What Do Cooperatives Mean to my Community?
Cooperatives all over the world are working locally and nationally to help better communities. There are different ways they all choose to accomplish this task, however they all follow seven key cooperative principles including: Open & Voluntary Membership, Democratic Member Control, Members’ Economic Participation, Autonomy & Independence, and Concern for Community. One that stands out at my local cooperative specifically is their concern for the community.
Cuivre River Electric Cooperative provides our local community with many opportunities in education and in the economy. For example, the cooperative offers scholarships for high school and college students. These scholarships encourage students

They aren't required to hand out these educational opportunities, however they feel it is their duty to serve the community in a way that will be beneficial to the community of the future. They are also concerned with the local economy. For instance, since 1997 they have raised five million dollars from their members through a drive called Operation Round Up. They have been collecting spare pennies for twenty years, hoping to help the families of the community. This five million dollars has since been granted to local families and individuals in my community. My family helps serve meals each month at an emergency shelter for the homeless, First Step Back Home. Operation Round Up has been supporting this non profit since 2006 and has received more than $85,00 in grants through Operation Round Up. Not only are they helping out local people with money and their economy, they are also …show more content…
In 2015 my sister won 1st in the Best Young Photographer category. She was awarded $100 & had her photo featured in November on the calendar. Cuivre RIver provides these calendars, free of charge, to their members. The “Green Tree Grants” partner with local schools to assist in planting of trees. The Youth Programs are designed to educate students on energy consumption, and electric safety. They even have a page on their website directed just for kids, the Cuivre Kids Club Page. The Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. is also part of their Youth Programs. This program awards 6 juniors an all-expense paid trip to D.C. to learn more about democratic leadership. The Youth Tour Program also awards 6 runners-up a $500 scholarship to the college of their choice and awards a $50 grant to teachers who submit 10 or more compositions. All in all, the efforts put in place help to ensure low energy rates for business and residents while also providing economic resources and opportunities for residents in my

...e school, such as; Pelotonia, Light the Night for leukemia and lymphoma, Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities, etc… For many of these organizations I have volunteered more than once. Volunteering at Light the Night has a story. For my 16th Birthday party, I wanted to have my friends and I volunteer in the day while having fun at night. So I had 7 boys and girls, along with me, volunteer for Light the Night, organized by me. The party was a huge success and a lot of fun. I look forward to organizing more volunteer opportunities for my friends and I.
I also recently volunteered at the Cleveland Food Bank by packing lunches for under privileged children and sorting non-perishable foods for those in need. Prior to participating in volunteer services for the day, we were required to watch a video that explains the purpose of the Cleveland Food Bank and why there is a need for continuous support. The Greater Cleveland Food Bank works to ensure that everyone in our communities has the nutritious food they need every day. The mission of the Cleveland Food Bank is to alleviate hunger by providing food and support to community organizations that feed the hungry. Many people depend on the support because of their financial situation, life changes, and possible mental or physical limitations. The Food Bank acts as a storage unit and distribution facility for smaller agencies and organizations such as schools, homeless shelters, churches, and day
Altogether, my perspective on this affiliation embraces the importance of education and safety across all of the United stated. The founder has surfaced a great importance to what may have been over looked. Furthermore, being that most children engage in camp experiences at some time in their life; as youngsters with the ability to absorb information like a sponge as well as being risk takers, it is imperative to hold education and safety as a high quality of a camp experience. Moreover, is the education of communicable disease along with prevention of outdoors dangers as I had mentioned before the West Nile Virus. In conclusion, I view the volunteers as inspirational people that bring knowledge to others, but most importantly benefiting the children.
Some of these focus on increasing rural teens and educating the rest of the community about agriculture and its importance to the state. Programs like Agriculture in the Classroom, the Planet Agriculture exhibition and other trainings that deeply inform about the status of agriculture. They even have a program for young adults to encourage them to follow a path on the agricultural world. This organization gives away a large amount of funds that are dedicated to programs and scholarships for future college students. “Annually we award over $200,000 in scholarships in a variety of packages designed to meet different student needs,” mentioned the main treasurer of the union. And stated that this services include several youth leadership organizations where students can participate such as their Free Enterprise Speech Contest.
...ons and the sustenance it works to provide throughout an area in need. I had the fortunate opportunity of taking part in such an organization because of the President of CERT International, Dr. Ken Daugherty and his deep want to help and service others. Knowing that through the giving of a donation, helping of a hand at a volunteer event, or perhaps even just a few kind words of encouragement towards a neighbor, one can develop as a volunteer. Knowing through it all that there are discrepancies within non-profit organizations, as many work to acquire funds inappropriately and mislead its benefactors. Considering the good and the bad, it is to be said that a tremendous amount of good can be done through a non-profit organization and its many volunteers. Many have devoted their time, money, and efforts towards the act of relieving many from adversity, will you?
What is a community? Defined in the dictionary a community is “a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.” (Webster). Communities bring people together but they are tear relationships apart. In the following stories the authors of this story demonstrates community as a whole. In Fully Alive, Story Telling Animal, Robopocalypse, Stepford Wives, The Happiness Machine, The Girl Who was Plugged In and The Cave, are stories that deal with community and how it is negative and positive for the characters in the books.
Global and local communities seek the greatest opportunities for prosperity and self-fulfillment, but there exists certain criteria that must be met in order to achieve those ends. The most successful communities incorporate the inherent values and virtues of a specific group of people. Communities ought to establish goals to be attained by their members, giving them a sense of cohesion and cooperation. Ideally, communities dictate a rule of law to lead them towards some elements of justice and mutual benefit.
A community is comprised of a group of goal oriented individuals with similar beliefs and expectations. Currently the term is used interchangeably with society, the town one lives in and even religion. A less shallow interpretation suggests that community embodies a lifestyle unique to its members. Similarities within the group establish bonds along with ideals, values, and strength in numbers unknown to an individual. Ideals and values ultimately impose the culture that the constituents abide by. By becoming part of a community, socialization...
We, Aimee Johnson and Jessie Virnig, along with Amy Wilson and Shawn Klimek, decided to try to give the homeless a little hope. The week before Christmas we went door to door and collected food for the local homeless shelter. We decided to focus on collecting food because around the Christmas season, a lot of emphasis is put on toy drives and people sometimes overlook the fact that the homeless still need to eat. In order to broaden our research, we decided to collect food from more than one group of people. We went to an average middle class neighborhood and to a college dormitory. Before we went out into the neighborhood and dorms, we prepared a thank you letter to give to everyone explaining to them who we were, to tell them that we were collecting food for the homeles...
...ocal nonprofit organizations have the potential to amplify their outreach to colleges, and young people in general, through matching passions with skills. You as organizations need to purposefully identify for us why promoting service and civic engagement is not only important, but necessary if we want to improve our lives, the lives of others, and the dilemmas and misfortunes our world faces every day.
The amazing thing is, the people that volunteer to help are making a lot of differences. Our society has benefited from the generosity of volunteers of all ages. More than one and a half million non-profit organizations and charities benefiting as a result. The estimated economic value on the volunteering sector is in the area of billions of dollars annually. It has always been, a very important aspect of our society.
How would someone define the word community? A community could be anything. If one were to listen to an everyday conservation, the word community, would probably be used very little. The word community has multiple meanings, ranging from communist or socialistic society (Emerson) to the quality of appertaining to or being held by all in common (Oxford).
Co-operatives are companies that are owned by a group of people (members) who have shares in the company. Shares can start as little as £1 and each member has a share in the Co-operative. It is the members (shareholders) who finance the co-operative and they control on how the business and profits are run.
A Community can be defined as a group of people who don’t just live in the same area, but also share the same interests, experiences and often concerns about the area in which they live. Often when individuals have lived on a street or in an area for a while they become familiar with each other and the issues surrounding them. Children often attend the same schools and grow up together, again sharing similar experiences. In some instances adults may work together, and quite commonly all community members will share the same doctors, dentists, hospitals, health visitors and other public services and facilities.
