What A Catholic Education Means To Me?

What a Catholic education means to me? This question has been asked to all the eighth graders that have passed through these doors. I have always heard the eighth graders read their papers, but always thought eighth grade was so far away, and I did not need to think about the question yet. Now, I have been at St. Mary Immaculate for 9 years and am now an eighth grader. It is my turn to give my interpretation of this enigma. As I look for answers now, the first three ideas that pop up in my head is religion, academics, and the family atmosphere. St. Mary’s has helped me grow in my faith. SMI has religion class that is taught 4 days a week. In religion class, students learn about the history of the church, the bible, and learn more about Jesus. On Friday, we have mass instead of religion class which deepens our relationship with God. During mass, we get together as one SMI family to worship God. We also have Reconciliation, adoration times, and living stations. This gives us the opportunity to directly talk to God and feel his presence. Mary’s prepares their students for the future. The teachers go above and beyond to guide each student in their academic quest. They are highly qualified to provide education so that each student will reach their highest potential. Preparing the student to do better in high school, the grading scale at SMI is challenging each student to work harder, and It trains them to improve their study habits. On a normal grading scale an F is a 59% but with SMI’s grading scale it is 69%. Offering a lot of extra curricular activities, SMI gives opportunities for students to branch out and exhibit their talents and skills. These extra curricular activities include the musical, athletics, battle of the books, student council, and many more. Students at SMI has many opportunities to excel in
