Wes Kroninger is a photographer for his own photography studio Portraits By Wes and Wes Kroninger Photography. His studio is in uptown Westerville, Ohio where he has been working with salons and stylists for 5 years. He has been all over the country taking photos for clients and for himself. He has experience photographing advertising campaigns, competition entries and in-store collections for salons across the country and is comfortable working with stylist teams of all skill levels. Wes was in his studio October 20th 2015 around noon setting up a photoshoot for a client. He was dressed casually, a grey v-neck t-shirt with a pair of blue jeans but his hair was perfectly combed and presentable for his clients. After they are all done uploading he goes through each set of photos and picks the top three photos and uploads them into his photoshop. He then fixes the exposure if it is needed and softens the lighting on some of the purses. He then crops out any part of the image that isn’t supposed to be in the photo. He does this and more to all of the other photos that he has chosen to edit when he is finished with all of the photos he puts them on an external hard drive and puts it aside until he wants to look at it with fresh eyes later. When he is completely finished and satisfied with his product he will then send them to the client and make sure they are satisfied with it as well. But he does not just do that everyday, he does all kinds of different photoshoots throughout his week whether it is portraits or product photography he gets to experience something new and different
From the film, “Documenting the Face of America: Roy Stryker and the FSA/OWI Photographers”, we, the viewer, are able to gain an understanding about all that the photographers witnessed and how they handled each of the situations they saw. Arthur Rothstein, Dorothea Lange, Ben Shahn, Carl Mydans, Edwin and Louise Rosskam, Gordon Parks, Jack Delano, John Vachon, Marion Post Wolcott, Esther Bubly, Russell Lee, John Collier Jr., Edwin Locke, and Walker Evans are the famous photographers that are discussed in this particular documentary. Almost all of the things that photographers witnessed while working on this project were things that people who lived in the city would never have seen unless they have visited or were originally from the country.

He bases his creative process and how he engineers his photographs around his philosophy and morals. He used many techniques that challenged his will to work so extensively because of the complexity of his photographs, and paved the way for surrealistic photography in the present. Jerry Uelsmann’s photography surpasses the state of reality so much it looks perfectly photo shopped, but his photography took place decades before Photoshop. He is a photographer who pioneered the art of multi layered imagery years ahead of anyone else. He uses only his own negatives from the pictures that he shoots, and he says that he does this often without a specific composition in mind. Uelsmann was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 11th 1934. Jerry is best known for his in black and white images that he layered skillfully without the use of Photoshop. Practiced by thousands who shared no common tradition or training from the earliest days of taking photos, the first photographers were disciplined and united by no academy or guild, who considered their medium variously as a trade, a science, an art, or an entertainment, and who often were unaware of each other’s work. Exactly as it sounds photography means photo-graphing. The word photography comes from two Greek words, photo, or “light”, and graphos, or drawing and from the start of photography; the history of the aforementioned has been debated. The idea of taking pictures started some thirty-one thousand years ago when strikingly sophisticated images of bears, rhinoceroses, bison, horses and many other types of creators were painted on the walls of caves found in southern France. Former director of photography at New Yorks museum of modern art says that “The progress of photography has been more like the history of farming, with a continual stream of small discoveries leading to bigger ones, and in turn triggering more experiments, inventions, and applications while the daily work goes along uninterrupted.” ˡ
Edward Burtynsky is landscape photographer who focuses on finding unique locations that are barren with environmental degradation. He is concerned with the current state of our world and wants to change it by using photography as a medium. Burtynsky 's photolistic style often shows incredible scale and detail within his photos by using multiple vantage points. Burtynsky approaches his subject in a very urgent manner, each and every photo is taken to create a deep impression from its viewer. His work is housed in more than 50 museums including the Guggenheim Museum, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris.
In a society that is focused on visual stimuli, it isn't uncommon to see a person taking a picture with a camera or making a "movie" with their camcorder. But, in the 1840s and 1850s, life just wasn't like that. If someone said they could make a picture of a mining town or of the route to the West without a pencil or paint people would have laughed at them. Laughing would have been appropriate because photography didn't come into being until 1839. James Horan reveals in his book, Mathew Brady: Historian with a Camera, that it wasn't even called photography then, it was called the "new art" (5). There were very few people who knew what it was to take a picture, or make a picture with light. The only pictures that were around at that time were those that were drawn, painted, or printed from lithographs or etchings. Newspapers didn't have real live pictures that showed the actual things that were written about. The population of America as it was in 1800 didn't know what the "West" looked like. According to Eugene Ostroff, sketches and paintings were the only illustrations of the West before photography (9). Ostroff tells us that these weren't usually accepted if the painter had taken artistic license (9). All Americans knew were the stories of the people who returned because it was too difficult to live there or the letters from friends and family telling the horrors they saw. So, with the invention of photography, especially the ability to "fix" the image onto the paper or metal plate had a major effect on the expansion to the West because the pictures that were taken showed how the West really was beautiful. Unfortunately, it was a while before the public was able to see the pictures that were taken by the photographers of the West because 1839 was only the very beginning of photography as a profession and a hobby.
Kirlian Photography is used to capture electrical coronial discharges. It is basically a way of capturing contact photographs through connecting an object to a voltage source. You would first begin by placing film on top a piece of metal. Then you would place the object you wish to capture an image of on top the film. As you switch on the power electricity will flow through the object and jump to the metal plate, creating coronal discharges, which is what the film captures to create the image of the object. The gallery is sectioned off into three different open rooms. The first room that I went into was all paintings by Rodney Burlingame. I enjoyed many of his paintings that were on display. Some of the pieces that I enjoyed were “Last Day of Vacation”, “Alone on the Beach”, “Tipping the Fiddler”, “Follow Your Dreams”, and “Amish Kids”. I liked these pieces because they were either really detailed or just simple. For example, “Tipping the Fiddler”, Burlingame uses many details, but little use of color. He makes sure that people can see every single detail of the painting. The setting of the painting is a worn out downtown that has graffiti on the buildings. There is a boy that is seen tipping the fiddler as a woman is walking on by. This painting is really detailed unlike “Follow Your Dreams”. In the painting “Follow Your Dreams” there is a woman walking her dog past a building with the words, “Follow Your Dreams”, graffiti on the building. There is not much of anything else in the painting except for a payphone and part of another building with some more graffiti on it. Clearly these two paintings were meant to be settled in an old-worn out downtown to show that some places are not being taken care of and that it is okay to follow your dreams. It is considered that photography only became widely available to the public when the Kodak Eastman Company introduced the box shaped Brownie Camera in 1900. (Baker, n.p.) Its features became more refined since its original placing on the market; one of the reasons why it has become considered the birth of public photography is because of the processing. Using a similar image capture system, the brownie exposed the light to a 120mm roll of film, which could be wound round, meaning six photographs could be taken before the slides needed removing. The first Brownie used a six-exposure cartridge that Kodak processed for the photographer. (Kodak.com, n.d.) Realistically, the armature photographers did not need to understand darkroom processes, they could simply use capture the subjects, and send it to be developed. The cameras were relatively affordable, targeting many different markets, which is apparent from their advertisements. Figure 2 Is an advertisement from for the Eastman Kodak Company’s Brownie Camera; It states in bold lettering “Operated by any school boy or girl” which emphasis how it was targeted for amateur use.
When going for a walk, a person takes in the beauty around them. On this particular day, the refulgent sun is extra bright, making the sky a perfect blue. White, puffy clouds fill the sky, slowing moving at their own pace. The wind is peacefully calm, making the trees stand tall and proud. There is no humidity in the air. As this person walks down the road, they see a deer with her two fawns. The moment is absolutely beautiful. Moments like this happen only once in a great while, making us wanting to stay in the particular moment forever. Unfortunately, time moves on, but only if there were some way to capture the day’s magnificence. Thanks to Joseph Niépce, we can now capture these moments and others that take our breath away. The invention of the camera and its many makeovers has changed the art of photography.
Have you ever seen a painting or picture that captivates you and directly stirs up emotion within you? More than likely, you have. Usually, viewers merely observe the picture and enjoy the way it looks and how it makes them feel. But, have you ever asked yourself, “why?” What about the picture makes it pleasing to the viewer? With each strategy the photographer uses creates their own touch and passion that floods all over the picture. The emotional connection nearly goes unnoticed for when the picture is well photographed, the viewers experience the sensation in their subconscious. This is one of the most powerful tools that a photographer holds in their hands. If one can become a master of manipulating how the photo affects its viewers, the said photographer can potentially maneuver people’s minds and thoughts with one click of a button. The time spent with my mentor has opened up the door for me to tap into that power though the use of background, focus, shutter speed, angles, and most importantly, lighting. Even with all these techniques, the person behind the camera must remember that creativity must be at the forefront of all operations. Caleno (2014), when writing about the basics of capturing a beautiful moment in a picture commented, “If we want to be creative we must drop these pre-conceptions and start looking at things from a small child’s innocence.”
My thoughts on my photograph being taken in particular have changed drastically over time. When I was younger, I literally gave no thought to my photo being taken, I barely even remember them being taken. When I look at the photographs of my childhood, I remember the moment in which they were taken, but I don't remember the photo actually being taken. Now I always know when someone is taking a picture of me, sort of like a sixth sense. I think the reason behind that is that when I was younger I loved my photo being taken and now I hide from the camera. Mostly because of insecurities and knowing how quickly a photo can travel now through the internet and social media.
