The word "diete" originated from Old French "diete" meaning "regular food" c.1225 AD and from Latin "daily food allowance, prescribed way of life," also from Greek "diatia", originally meaning "way of life, regimen, dwelling," from diaitasthai "lead one's life."¹ Diet as a "diet" is now perceived is a prescribed course of food taken over a period of time after which all your problems are solved i.e. for most people this means there is always an end in sight when they will not need to be on their prescribed "diet"; most of the time the "diet" is for losing weight. This is not the case for anyone who happens to find themselves in need of a diet. Most will find there has to be a permanent change in their lifestyle and eating habits. This requires a paradigm shift in their overall behaviour, so it would be great if the old meaning of diet was reinstituted preferably the Greek version mixed with a little Latin and it meant "Daily food allowance for the way one leads one's life." What a mouthful; but it would get us away from thinking a diet is a quick fix for weight loss and all the other problems of life. Weight Loss Diets There is "No Such Thing" as a weight loss diet. There is one certain Law and that is "What goes in must come out or you will gain weight!" If you do not use the calories you take onboard you will gain weight as fat. Forget the word diet as you used to know it and from now on think of diet as the amount of food you need to eat to sustain your body and health condition. As everyone knows once you finish a so called diet and return to your old eating habits whatsoever you were suffering from before returns. This applies not only apply to losing weight but also to such things as gaining weight, diabetes an... ... middle of paper ... ...it is deciding upon what type of job to do or what type of food to eat the choice you make will have a profound effect effect upon your life. By now I guess almost everyone has heard the saying "you are what you eat" well more correctly would be "you are what you eat and digest". The statement is correct; so the next point to consider is whether the food intake is nutritious or mainly nutrient empty calories. The body requires certain minerals, vitamins and amino acids from food intake to function optimally and if these are not gained from food intake then a diseased state will be arrived at. The science of human nutritional requirements i.e. Nutrition is a dynamic science and all is not known, discoveries are being made almost on a daily basis and apart from this the difficulty on determining the singular nutrient effect the human body is virtually impossible.
Nutritionism is the ideology that the nutritional value of a food is the sum of all its individual nutrients, vitamins, and other components. In the book, “In Defense of Food” by Michael Pollan, he critiques scientists and government recommendations about their nutritional advice. Pollan presents a strong case pointing out the many flaws and problems that have risen over the years of following scientific studies and government related warnings on the proper amount of nutrients needed for a healthy diet. Pollan’s main point is introducing science into our food system has had more of a negative impact than a positive one, we should go back to eating more of a traditional diet. I believe food science has given us
One example of this is Chris Powell’s method. Chris goes back and forth between high and low carb days three times a week, so a total of six days. The seventh day he calls the “no guilt day” which allows one to eat whatever he or she wishes. It calms the physiological need of how people eat. Chris believes, as do I, that no diet will ever work if the person on the diet feels depressed, deprived, or restricted. That is why the carb-cycling diet is so successful for so many. The body gets what it craves, but on a schedule planned so that the fat is burned off
“As I work every day”, she started, “even though this is a job that I do in a repetitive fashion, I am moved every time by the fact that I can treat and improve people’s lives through food: what we might sometimes care less.” “I am able to help people with what they choose to eat, which in the end will help them walk the paths of healthy lives. And this is the driving force that strengthens my life as well.” And she added, “But compared to the amount and intensity of education one has to attain in becoming a dietitian, I don’t think this profession gets paid enough.” “And I devote plethora of my time in counseling my patients to reshape their nutritional practices. But I realized that these practices are really tough to break. This is when the negative aspects of being a dietitian come into
It sounds good for everyone, but according to Fraser: “Diet are bad for us”(Fraser 56) and also, she makes a question why the dieting seldom works” (56). The dieter who used to experience the process of dieting usually feels hungry and tends to eat more to recoup what he or she has not eaten during the process. But after a fews days of getting along with the process, one can gradually eat and drink in the dieting program. There are many ways to get into a balance diet; it depends on the schedule of eating, drinking, and working out. It also has specific guides to help the dieters get into the habits of staying healthy. However, there are several kinds of extreme methods that can help those who want to lose weight in a short period time, if the dieter can endure a plan for dieting in eating, drinking, and working out. No pain, no gain. Otherwise, it is definitely fine for those who gradually try to lose weight not by that difficult ways that listed above, but by a lighter way which mean decreasing the amount of exercises or not being rigid tomuch about eating and drinking; and obviously,
Nutrition is a very controversial and confusing topic. One day coffee is bad for you, but the next day it is good. Alcohol is detrimental for our health one day, but the next day red wine is the elixir of life. There are dozens of diet plans and they promise a leaner and healthier body. There is the 3-Hour Diet that involves constantly eating small portions of anything we want to eat. The latest diet craze, the Paleo Diet, is based upon eating foods that our “hunter-gatherer ancestors” would have thrived on during the Paleolithic era. And there is the Blood Type Diet, the South Beach Diet, the Macrobiotic Diet, the Mediterranean Diet, and the list goes on. But who and what should we believe? Well, there is an optimal diet for humans and the answer might surprise many.
Those who wish to lose weight seem to have a handful of options when it comes to the diet they can try. Each diet has a particular lifestyle it is trying to promote and in order to get the best results one must adhere to it as religiously as possible.
Nutrition assessments include clinical and dietary assessment, anthropometrics, as well as biochemical, laboratory immunologic and functional indices of nutritional status (Gibney, 2005). In epidemiological studies, different dietary investigation tools were designed to assess the nutritional status in individuals and populations, nutrition monitoring and surveillance and diet-disease research (Friedenreich, et al., 1992, Taren, 2002).
Nutrition is a basic necessity of life. Without a proper and well-balanced diet, it is difficult for any being, regardless of species, to survive. Unlike that of primates such as the great apes, the human diet is more full of calories and nutrients. Humans have a great understanding of what types of food are necessary to maintain good health. It is difficult to tell when the eating habits of Homo sapiens split apart from the eating habits of these other primates. Yet, one fact is certain. As human evolution continues to progress, the human diet also continues to evolve.
Dieting can be defined as restricting calories or food groups (Deal with Diets: kidshealth.org). With the number of obese people growing, it’s no wonder that people are starting to diet, and “in 1988, Americans spent 32 billion dollars on diets and diet products (Baird: Women’s Health Fact Sheet).” A problem arises when teens start restricting their food, because dieting can be very harmful to a teenager’s still-developing body. It can also be harmful to the teen’s psychological health as well. “80% of teen girls are unhappy with their bodies and weight (Community Action: 27% of Teens in Peril from Dieting), and 50% of teen girls incorrectly believe that they are overweight, increasing the likelihood that they will diet (Strauss 741).” Dieting comes with its own host of problems which is why teens should definitely not diet because it can cause obesity, eating disorders, and nutrient deficiencies.
Most fad diets do not focus on meeting the nutritional requirements of your body, but on losing weight quickly. This encourages unhealthy eating habits as many people result to restricting their intake of foods that have essential nutrients. In fact, the diet programs are designed to take advantage of the willingness of people to attempt anything to lose weight or feel and look

The problem is that many people do not realize the enormous effect their eating habits have on their bodies.
Before beginning it is important to determine how many calories you require per day. Loosing weight means you are burning more calories than you consume which is usually accomplished with normal activities and exercise. Though it is important to get plenty of exercise, you should not simply stop eating and only exercise. It is important to keep your health in check while exercising.
...ts. It is important to understand which substances need to be consumed more than others and also why the body needs to consume a substance. Proper diet and nutrition is a vital component to a long and healthy life.
People is always asking: “Why is important to have a balanced diet? Why is necessary to have a balanced diet on a daily basis? And why do professionals tend to recommend a balanced diet?” The human being has essential needs to its existence: breathing, feeding, and keeping the body in constant movement. The majority of the people are aware of this, but they do not have a balance among these things and even more important they do not eat the adequate food to keep their body healthy. Food is one of the most important factors because it gives the energy the body needs daily. In other words, few words food is the fuel that provides glucose, which is carried to each cell of the body through the bloodstream. This process is extremely important and this is influenced by the type of food that each person consumes. A balanced diet is important for human beings, and makes reference to a good nutrition with regard to the food they eat; which contains macro nutrients that are carbohydrates, fats, and proteins; these provide energy and basic materials that the body uses to grow and stay healthy.
