Wedding Toasts - Best Man, Brother of the Groom
Good Evening! I’m standing up here tonight, pretty boastful I have to admit, of my brother, Bobo, and his bride Twiggy. I have come to sing their praises, and if I happen to embarrass either one of them in the process, I apologize right now!
On behalf of our family, we want to welcome each of you to the wedding today. It is a true testament to Bobo and Twiggy that you have taken time from your busy schedule to come and witness their marriage. I have never seen a more beautiful bride than Twiggy, and my brother looks just plain button busting proud, doesn’t he?
Bobo and Twiggy do not come lightly into this marriage. They have each led successful lives up to this point, and each is a wonderful individual alone. However, as wonderful and unique each of them is, together they make the perfect couple! Bobo, a man of patience,...
Good evening. I would like to begin by welcoming each and every one of you to this joyous and stressful occasion.
In Brym’s article he discusses what research has shown about the motivations of suicide bombers. Brym and my fellow classmate explained to me how suicide bombers may be motivated by politics, religion, or retaliatory aims (Brym, Kyra Howard). Both Brym and Howard helped me view the issue of suicide bombers in multiple
Firstly, on behalf of the bridesmaids, I'd like to thank the groom for his kind words, and I have to say they have done an excellent job today and look absolutely wonderful.
Cerebral Palsy is a variety of congenital motor disorders, occurring from brain damage caused shortly before, after, or during birth. This results in the child developing poor balance and coordination, and difficulty moving, it is also likely to cause epilepsy and learning difficulties (Miller et al, 2006). There are many types of Cerebral Palsy, some of which include; Spastic Quadriplegia, limited movement in all four limbs (Stallings et al, 1995), Spastic Hemiplegia, restricted movement on one side of the body, Spastic Diplegia, rigidity on the lower half of the body (Malaiya et al, 2007), and Athetosis, which causes the individual to have involuntary movements, all these have the potential to require alterations to be made in the classroom. Baking activities particularly those that are hands on, such as bread making can benefit a child with cerebral palsy since it can be used to help develop their grabbing and lifting abilities. Adaptions can also be made to make the child’s experience more beneficial and can improve their independence, for example putting bowls on non-slip mats to minimise the chance of the ingredients being spilled, or having surfaces where the height can be altered to suit the needs of each indivi...
A physical disability may affect a childâ€TMs social skills if they become withdrawn, their behaviour may also be affected if they feel frustrated by their limitations. Cerebral palsy for example, is a condition that affects the movement, posture and co-ordination of a person, a sufferer can also be affected by seizures, epilepsy or problems with speech and language. Development may be restricted by the
Gorgias taught a technique called karios, recognizing and acting at the opportune time. It involves having the right words to say at the right time and waiting for the best moment in time to make a statement or ask a leading question. In order to be a master of karios, one has to know what to say, what they are not allowed to say, and then decide between side stepping an issue and countering it. Realizing the moral fiber of the argument, in reference to the situation, is a key to having fine timing. Gorgias makes his rhetoric seem poetic by means of literary elements like antithesis and karios. However, Socrates had a different view about rhetoric and its artistic qualities. According to Socrates, “rhetoric seems not to be an artistic pursuit at all, but that of a shrewd, courageous spirit which is naturally clever at dealing with men; and I call the chief part of it flattery” (23). Socrates sees through the artful poetry and views rhetoric as flattery. I agree that rhetoric is “smooth talk”, but it performs its purpose well. One of its purposes is persuasiveness. Using flattery can be a helpful tool for persuading. Protagoras would probably counter Socrates’ argument by reminding him that although flattery is part of rhetoric, it is also a subject worth studying because of the need for public speaking. One must also be able to recognize an attempt to flatter and be able to counter it with the right response. Protagoras would counter Plato’s claim by emphasizing the need to study areas of rhetoric for survival in a community that is litigious, like Athens.
To start off the role of a suicide bomber from their views is to, go on a mission and kill their target as well as killing their selves. The biggest motivation for a suicide bomber is the despair and hopelessness in their lives. They also get motivated because of promises of afterlife’s, not to mention American imperialism (Lauri Friedman). Suicide bombers can be from any age and have all kinds of educational backgrounds. Their personal lives differ and what goes on at home can be a reason for their decisions of becoming one (Lauri Friedman).
Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen - My name is Steve and this is my partner in crime, Scot. We are the best men today, famed for our double act. Some people may even say we were artists, but I think you'll all realize what kind of artists we are later on this evening.
Finally, on behalf of the bride and groom I would like to thank everyone for sharing their special day, it is a true millstone - sorry milestone in their lives. On behalf of myself I wish you'd all stayed at home - as things would have been a lot easier on me. I started planning this speech about 5 months ago and I expect you all feel like I've been delivering it equally as long. But now it gives me immense pleasure (not to mention relief) to invite you to all stand and raise your glasses in a toast to John and Angie. To love, laughter and happily ever after. To John and Angie CONGRATULATIONS
Let me first say that the bridesmaids look absolutely smashing today, and only rightly outshone by our bride, Pamela. And, I'm sure you'll agree with me gentlemen, today is a sad day for single men, as another beauty leaves the available list. And ladies, I'm sure you'll agree that today's passing by without much of a ripple.
Good Evening! For those of you who don?t know me, I?m Charlotte, the very proud sister of our glamorous Bride. I want to start by congratulating Kari and Ernest, and thanking all of you for coming here today.
Most of these children experience weakness and this is seen within the first three years of development noted in walking, talking, crawling, and sitting up (Ignatavicius, D. D., & Workman, M. L., 2013). Recognition and explanation to the family members regrading cerebral palsy is crucial. In order to prevent contractures and maintain the body in alignment a child will usually have orthosis to the feet. Not only do children with cerebral palsy have motor retardation, they experience severe muscle spasticity that involves bowel and bladder (The Ultimate Resource for Everything CP | CerebralPalsy.org., 2016). Most children are started on osmotic laxatives that are given to them routinely in order to prevent bowel obstruction. Incontinence is not uncommon for children with cerebral palsy. During early child development teaching the family members about adhering to the treatment regimen and common expectations is necessary. The reason teaching the family is so important is that cerebral palsy is a chronic condition. This condition's treatments are meant to alleviate the extent of the disorder. Parents must actively participate in the child’s development. From physical, occupational, and speech therapy, to working closely with nurses and doctors as the child
The research question posed in the first article by Himmelmann, Lohmander, Minscalco and Nordberg, they ask, what is the connection between children with Cerebral Palsy and speech, language and communication disorders? In the second article by Lohmander, Miniscalco and Nordberg, they ask, what are the speech impairments of young children at various cognitive levels with Cerebral Palsy? The question in the last article by Minscalco, Nordberg and Sandberg they ask, how do the story telling skills vary in children with different types of Cerebral Palsy? All three articles discuss pathways to successfully exceeding a child with Cerebral Palsy’s learning, speaking and overall communication abilities. Through numerous studies of children with all types of Cerebral Palsy, each publication is able to identify, assess and offer useful treatments to each
There are 2 different types of communication, one being verbal communication and the other being non-verbal communication (Falkan et al., 2002). Children with cerebral palsy (CP) may have difficulties acting as receiving or sending messages in communication (Himmelman et al., 2008). A child’s speech can be intelligible or unintelligible. A lack of intelligibility can severely limit children’s independence. (Coplan, 1988). Observing a child’s natural interaction with other children can display how children usually communicate which is considered their communication performance. Communication performance is essential for children limited intelligibility, who often have restricted patterns of interaction (Dahlgren-Sandberg and Liliedahl 2008, Clarke and Wilkinson 2007, Pennington et al.
The articles this week spoke about terrorism and the logic behind it, who it affects, and how to prevent it. The article about the logic of suicide bombing discusses why terror groups choose it and what they have to gain from it. Suicide bombing is difficult to track beforehand and has a heavy civilian cost. It is used because it has been shown to work when receiving concessions from their enemies. The whole point of suicide bombing is to force the hand of your enemy. The people who are affected by suicide bombers and other terror attacks are mostly the urban poor according to “Poverty and Support for Militant Politics”. The urban poor is the most affected because most attacks are targeting urban areas that the poor populate. The ones who do
