Purchase 3 eyeliners, 3 tubes of mascaras, and 3 tubes of lipsticks in different brands. Brands will range from inexpensive, moderately priced, to expensive. I will swab each sample of eyeliner on a white cotton cloth and take a picture. I will then run each sample under a hose for 10 second intervals to see what happens. I will record and photograph all data. Then I will repeat steps 2-4 for mascara, then repeat steps 2-4 for lipstick. My hypothesis states that, “If I test the validity of different brands of waterproof mascara, lipstick and eyeliner by running it under water, then …show more content…
This helped by giving me an idea of what should be included in my experiment, what I should do, and how I should do it. It did not list any of the same brands as I used, so it gave me an idea of how other brands held up when ran under water. In conclusion I learned more about different brands, and got a general idea of what was expected when for when I did my project.
My third, and final source was www.lovelygirliebits.com This site also gave me insight on the procedure of my experiment. It included a list of materials, a procedure, and data. The only difference was that they only tested mascar, whereas I plan to test lipstick and eyeliner too. In conclusion this site helped me gather information on what I should be doing.
In conclusion these three websites helped me with my experiment in various ways. One gave me more background on the ingredients in the makeup. It also helped me learn about the history of makeup. The other two websites explained how to do my experiment to me and showed me the outcome of other brands tested. I believe these three websites are going to guide and influence me a lot in my

We all know that cosmetics existed thousands of years ago. Cleopatra used a heavy arsenal of beauty aids to help her shake the foundations of the Roman Empire. Yes, cosmetics and perfumes have a long history, but the consumer industry we live in is relatively recent, a creation of the decades 1890 through 1920. The products hawked in the 19th Century by druggists, perfumers, barbers, physicians, and a colorful assortment of other enterprising individuals were primitive by our standards. Certainly, active ingredients were used with abandon, notably arsenic, lead, and mercury. These were products that really made visible differences, and the consumer was well-advised to be wary of the majority of these mysterious concoctions.

The use of animals to test cosmetics is introduced in their article as well. The authors quote a vast amount of credible sources from prestigious universities such as Princeton and from well known animal rights group such as PETA. I will use this as my main source of information.

Each year, thousands of animals are brutally tortured in laboratories, in the name of cosmetic research. A movement to ban animal testing for cosmetic purposes has been gaining popularity, with many companies hopping on the bandwagon against this research. New alternatives have been developed to eliminate the necessity to test on animals. This is only a small beginning of what is necessary to end these immoral acts. Animal testing in cosmetics is useless and cruel, and can be accomplished by other methods of research to end the suffering of animals.
