Sitting along the Hudson River lies a small town called “Sleepy Hollow”, also known as Tarry Town. Washington Irving wrote “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” in the year 1820. It is a haunting folktale about a young shy teacher named Ichabod Crane, who has a terrifying come up with the legend of the Headless Horseman. In the story, Ichabod is leaving for a town party on an older horse that he has borrowed. The theme of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow is pretty much "Men trying to find love in the wrong place”. “Revenge” is a big part of the theme of this story as Ichabod Crane is trying to steal Katrina away from Brom Bones, and Bones trying to get revenge back at Ichabod. “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” tells the story of how Ichabod Crane tries to win the heart and soul of Katrina. Ichabod comes to Sleepy Hollow, New York, traveled from his home town Connecticut to be the schoolmaster of the village. Throughout the story Ichabod is constantly trying to find his "other half", Katrina. Throughout the story Ichabod Crane is always trying to find his “other half”, which is Katrina. Ichabod Crane might have had the brains but definitely not the looks. Therefore, the reader could suggest that he could resemble the opposite of the Headless Horseman. The Headless Horseman had a body but with no head. He could also be compared by his awkward appearance and high ego, compared to the Headless Horseman who had a high ego for running through the woods knowing he would be the scariest of them all. This could be because each are wanting the body part that they are missing. Ichabod wanted to get the looks to attract Katrina, and the Headless Horseman just wants to find his head.
