How would you feel if one of your close friends killed one of their friends, but had a reason for doing it? Would you see them as a murderer? As my class is discussing the book ¨Of Mice and Men¨ George shot Lennie and most people believe that George had a justification as to murdering Lennie. I personally don’t agree with that; I believe George murdering Lennie wasn’t justified because it goes against The Bible, the law, and it was premeditated. First, Murder goes against religion. The Bible states in Matthew 5:21 that “You shall not murder”, it also says in 1 John 3:15 that “Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer”. Secondly, George was justified in shooting Lennie because murder is against the law. The law states that anyone who assist
in killing or killed someone is considered a murderer. In fact, a man by the name of Dr. Kevorkian went to jail for assisted murder. He traveled all over the world assisting in the killings of hundreds of people, until he was later put away for these wrong doings. Thirdly, George had thought about how he was going to kill Lennie, so it was premeditated murder. In “Of Mice and Men” Lennie was blamed for stealing Curley’s gun yet, George is the one who stole the gun. After George got the gun, he made a spot for Lennie to end up in so he could kill him. On the other hand, as a counterclaim one might state that in The Bible in Mark verse 12:31 says “Love thy neighbor as yourself”. George killed Lennie only because of how much he loved him and didn’t want to see him killed by someone else. In Conclusion, the reasons why George wasn’t justified in shooting Lennie because it goes against religion, the law, and it was premeditated.
C/R: It is true that George was only trying to save Lennie from a horrible punishment that the boys were going to bring upon him however, there were other options than killing Lennie. George didn’t have to kill Lennie, they could have run away from the mob that was chasing them, for George got to Lennie before anyone else did. They had time to escape. Therefore, George is at fault for Lennie’s death; if George really thought of Lennie as family, he would have thought of another way to get out of the problem.
Killing someone is never right. No one pointed a single finger to George for killing Lennie. They all thought it was ok since Lennie killed Curley’s wife, it is not ok to kill a person. All of them went out to drink after Lennie was dead. George did not even care, Lennie trusted George with everything. Lennie would probably be arrested for killing Curley’s wife, but he did not deserve to be killed. Lennie was a special person, he did not know his own strength. He never meant to kill Curley’s wife. George knew that but decided to kill Lennie anyways. That is not the definition of a true friend. No one accused George of anything, but instead were happy that Lennie ended up being
It is true that Lennie would be allowed to live if George hadn't killed him. Lennie and George could have escaped and lived in a cave. They would be free and able to do whatever
This can be identify George as a good friend or a bad friend to Lennie. In my personal opinion I think that George is a good friend to lennie. Because that I think that george need to kill Lennie, the first reason is that if Lennie get caught by Curly and the others he will still died but he will be torture to death by them. Another reason is that Lennie kills a person so he will get caught eventually and he will end up the same way as he get caught now. So George kills lennie out of caring, out of the relation that they had. that is why I think that George is a good friend to Lennie
One important reason that shows George's actions of killing Lennie is a euthanasia is a very important reason. The reason is that Lennie can't really tell George that that he wants to die, but he actually does in a more indirect way. Lennie's mental state is very low and it would be hard for him to tell George directly and give his constant.
Lennie was shot by a friend who cared about him. There was no hatred between them making the death non-revengeful. It was just as if Lennie was hooked up to a machine that kept him alive and George pulled the plug. He was bound to be shot anyways so it was better that George "pulled the plug" instead of Curley. Curley would have shot Lennie in the guts to have Lennie suffer a more painful and slow death. It shows that George really cared for Lennie.
Unfortunately, Lennie had a disability, and back in their time, disabled people were treated horribly. For instance, “...over 60000 disabled people were sterilized without their consent.” (1927). Additionally, “Doctors require to register anyone known to have any “genetic illness” such as “feeblemindedness” (1993). Lennie would’ve had horrible things happen to him without consent. He would’ve been killed, hated, and labeled as dirt, smudging the image of a perfect race. Everyone would’ve considered him a “disease” and that would’ve slowed the progression for disabled rights. If George hadn’t shot Lennie, Lennie would’ve faced discrimination, even up to being sterilized without consent. George’s decision saved Lennie from
George kills Lennie because he did not want to witness Lennie being hurt or killed carelessly, run off by in his own and not being able to take care for himself, and Lennie’s mental disorder will never change how Lennie reacts to certain situations. Many believe taking the life of another without consent is unacceptable but in certain situations like George’s, he has to decide due to Lennie’s mental disorder that was leading him into unpleasant situations. George is an admirable character who choose to protect and do justice to his distressed friend,
George shouldn’t go to jail for killing Lennie, even though Lennie was completely innocent. Lennie is illiterate and ill-informed. He killed Curley's wife and many animals and to keep people safe from him would be hard. He might of had to just stay in one place all day alone, that isn't good for a human. Lennie's death could save many lives.
Is there ever a good time to kill someone? George was put in a tight spot. Should he kill Lennie or should he not kill him? If someone’s in pain or asks to be killed is it alright to kill them? George killed Lennie did he have the right? Did George have a choice? Was it the right or wrong thing to do? These are the questions that will be answered in this paper.
Therefore, George’s killing of Lennie was not done out of mercy, since Lennie did not consent and he was not suffering from a fatal illness. From the
During the Of Mice and Men debate, it considered the following case: George Milton’s decision to shoot Lennie Small was morally justified. Before the trial started, I voted for the motion because I agreed that it was right to kill Lennie. I chose to side with the proposition team because of several reasons. First of all, I placed myself in George’s feet, the killer of Lennie, and thought about what I would’ve done in his situation. I concluded that I would’ve done the same exact thing as he did. George was the only person who truly cared for Lennie and has always stick by his side through thick and thin. He wanted what was best for Lennie and chose the best idea available at the time, which was unfortunately to shoot Lennie in the back of the head. If he didn’t allow Lennie a peaceful death,
I disagree and believe George’s heroic journey instead led him to the mercy killing of Lennie. George Milton and Lennie Small are both introduced in the novel at the same time as being close companions. George kills Lennie without malice, but with compassion, and therefore the death of Lennie is a mercy killing and not a murder. George is faced with the ultimate obstacle of his life, which is killing his longtime friend, so that the men from the ranch cannot torture him, kill him, or throw him into jail.
In addition, it is without charge to accomplish our particular standard about murder. the absence of the word “murder” in the bible mean that human life is a gift of God and only God should take the life believers are often persuaded that even though “murder “ is not completely expressed about in the holy bible. Murder is wrong because the word “wrong” means injuring entity. Be meaning, killing is wrong when you observe on a usually down constant, it is very simple because moral is the sense of sacred scriptures so, they are based on human aptitude and if something goes opposing the instinct, it is wrong. Furthermore, murder is one of the most common basic forms of morality.
In addition, in most religion killing another person leads to punishment. Al-Islam.com claims,” Whoever shall kill intentionally shall recieve punishment, and Allah will send wraith on them.” This shows how in the religion Islam, people who kill aren’t good with God. On the other hand, in the Qur’an as Thereligonpeace.com mentions,”Fight them until there is no more disbelief.” Yes, they may fight to end disbelief, but
