Lennie Small Murder

Why would you kill your best friend that has been with you through thick and thin? Lennie Small was killed by George Milton at the end of the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. “Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family. They don't belong no place....With us it ain't like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us” (Steinbeck 13-14). That quote basically describes Lennie and George's relationship to each other. Murder is something done with anger and to end a person’s life that should have not been ended. George had all the aspects of a murderer, he basically planned the murder of Lennie Small. George was not even accused for killing Lennie, everyone was happy and that is not right. Also George should have let Lennie escape to the cave and let Lennie live freely. Being said, George in all right, should be considered a murderer and not a savior.
To begin with, George Milton planned Lennie Small’s death at the end of the book Of Mice and Men. As soon as George found out of what Lennie did to Curley’s wife, he soon had the motive to end Lennie’s life. Lennie was a special kind of person, he did not

know from right to wrong. George stole Carlson’s gun and wanted to end all the chaos Lennie did. George said weakly, “Maybe Carlson lost his gun” (Steinbeck 98). He wanted to hide that he was the one who took Carlson’s gun. Lennie never took Carlson’s gun. Also George told everyone that Lennie went south and not north. George wanted to lead everyone off to a different place so his devious plan to kill Lennie would work and that they would not find out that he was the one who actually had Carlson’s gun and not Lennie. Everything was planned in this sad murder of Lennie Small, Lennie was a great person. George planned everything and should be called a murderer
Furthermore George was not even accused for killing Lennie, everyone was happy about Lennie’s death.

Killing someone is never right. No one pointed a single finger to George for killing Lennie. They all thought it was ok since Lennie killed Curley’s wife, it is not ok to kill a person. All of them went out to drink after Lennie was dead. George did not even care, Lennie trusted George with everything. Lennie would probably be arrested for killing Curley’s wife, but he did not deserve to be killed. Lennie was a special person, he did not know his own strength. He never meant to kill Curley’s wife. George knew that but decided to kill Lennie anyways. That is not the definition of a true friend. No one accused George of anything, but instead were happy that Lennie ended up being

killed.
