It is a popular adage that there are only two certain things in life-death and taxes. But for the last decade or so in the National Football League, there has been another sure thing-as soon as he was eligible in 1993, Walter Payton was destined to be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. That is exactly what happened in January, 1993. All that remains was the exclamation point on his spectacular career-enshrinement day on July 31, 1993, when Payton and four other members of the Class of 1993 received pro football's highest honor.
In 13 seasons with the Chicago Bears from 1975 to 1987, Payton literally rewrote the NFL record book with his ball-carrying feats. He rushed 3,838 times for 16,726 yards and 110 touchdowns-all records. He also caught 492 passes for 4,538 yards and 15 more touchdowns. Altogether, he scored 125 touchdowns, second most ever, and he accounted for a record 21,803 combined net yards.
Payton rushed for an all time high 275 yards against the Minnesota Vikings on November 20,1977. He rushed for more than 100 yards a stunning 77 times. He won the NFL kickoff return championship as a rookie. He even completed 11 out of 34 passes for 331 yards and eight touchdowns. No other running back has even remotely threatened Payton's overall production.
Ironically, Payton's exceptional rushing statistics tend to obscure the fact that he was an exceptional all-round football player, arguably the best who ever lived. He was blessed with a wide variety of athletic skills and he put them all to good use during his NFL career.
"He is a complete football player," Jim Finks, the former Chicago Bears general manager who drafted Payton, said. "He is better than Jim Brown. He is better than O.J. Simpson."

...ed: "I want to get it before Franco gets it," he said, " so I'll be starting the season with the afterburners on." Payton did beat Harris to the record on a 6-yard run in the season's fourth game. Perhaps it was an omen of things to come, Pro Football Hall of Fame Executive Director Pete Elliot was there to receive the ball Payton carried before the next game of play began.
Still, Payton was not entirely satisfied. "Brown set his record in nine seasons," he said. "I wish I could have done it in nine. I could have, too, if the strike hadn't shortened the 1982 season."
Payton, who retired three years later after the 1987 season, was determined that his new rushing record would be something of ages. "My father always told me never to settle for second best," he said," that you either try to do your best or don't try at all."

In 1961, Roger and teammate Mickey Mantle received national attention as they chased the single season home run record of 60 set by Babe Ruth in 1927.
The San Francisco 49ers drafted Jerry Rice in the first round. It was a really up and down season for Jerry but he slowly gained momentum throughout the year. In his second year he teamed up with a Football veteran Joe Montana. He caught 86 catches, with 15 touchdowns, and 1,570 receiving yards. Jerry Rice was really famous for his fitness level. Jerry Rice went on to play for 20
Charley Johnson is a very talented NFL quarterback from NMSU that not many people know about. Having accomplished so much, I feel that people should. Bleacher Report’s Brendan Majev, ranked him the 91st greatest quarterback of all time. He was drafted 10th round by the St. Louis Cardinals. After playing with them and the Oilers, he ended his career with the Denver Broncos in 1975. Topics gone over in this essay include his early life, his college football career, his NFL career, his army career, and his education.
He broke the color barrier in the NFL (Britannica). Which can allow thousands of talented African Americans to be able to share their talent with others. Now that the protests are going on, Kenny’s name will most likely be mentioned. However, most people don’t know who he is. Kenny’s legacy will be remembered by the NFL and the fans. He is honored at the African American museum in Washington D.C for his outstanding work he had done for the people then and the people now. Most importantly, it will be remembered by the African Americans that are able to play now because of his
Brett Favre grew up idolizing a pair of Southern quarterbacks, the Saints' Archie Manning and the Cowboys' Staubach. He grew up in Kiln, Mississippi and went to high school in there. His high school, Hancock North Central, honored him this past May by re-naming the field, 'Brett Favre Field,' and unveiling a life-sized statue of the quarterback at the stadium's entrance. The school previously had retired his jersey, Number 10, in 1993. He stayed in the south to go to college where he went to Southern Miss. He became the starter at Southern Miss in his third game of his freshman season. Favre majored in special education. He led his Southern Mississippi team to 29 victories, including two bowl victories, during his four varsity seasons, 1987-90, and climaxed his collegiate career by earning a MVP award in the East-West Shrine game featuring the nation's best seniors. Favre set school records for passing yards (8,193), pass attempts (1,234), completions (656), completion percentage (53.2), touchdowns (55), and with only 35 interceptions. His production included five 300-yard passing games and five 3-TD performances, while his 7,695 regular-season passing yards ranked him among the top 30 of all-time NCAA passers. His 1.57 interception ratio in 1988 was the lowest among the 50 top-ranked passers in the nation, and his 2.9 interception rate for his four-year career also ranks as one of the best in NCAA history. Also he was the MVP of the All-American Bowl at the conclusion of his senior year. All those records and stats and that was only in college!!!
“Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are the preeminent QBs of their generation (Battista and Breer).” Two quarterbacks, from two completely different backgrounds, are fighting for supremacy among all the men to quarterback in the National Football League (NFL). Football in the day and age today is a landscape unlike a few centuries ago. On paper just about any coach in the NFL would start Peyton Manning, former first pick in the 1998 draft, over Tom Brady, former one hundred and ninety ninth pick in the 2000 draft, just based on where each player was selected. Looks, although appealing, doesn’t reflect the careers of two of the greatest QBs in NFL history. Manning is a former number one selection, who has done nothing but live up to and exceed expectations. Brady was selected five rounds later at one hundred and ninety nine, and has done nothing but turned doubters into believers. In the midst of the madness, which player stands forsaken as the greatest quarterback of their generation?

He was also third all time in games played with 3,298. He was elected into the Hall Of Fame in 1982. His autobiography, I had a Hammer, was published in 1990. In 1999, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of breaking Babe Ruth’s record, Major League announced the Hank Aaron Award, given to the best overall hitter in each league.
Joe Montana is one of the greatest football players to ever play. Joe worked hard for what he earned and deserved every bit of it. He had to earn his position on every football team he has played for an he did it very well. He won 4 super bowls and many awards during and after his career and is currently in the hall of

Lewis missed two games due to an injury, but still recorded 103 tackles a personal best offive sacks. The ravens allowed just one 100-yard rush performance in the 14 games. Lewis played. Lewis was named AFC Defensive player of the week following his seven-tackle, one sack and three pass deflections. In 2007 despite the Baltimore ravens mediocre he earned his 9th Pro bowl nod in his 12th career. He finished the season with 120 tackles. As the years go by Lewis is getting stronger better and making his way to one of the best football players out there. Ray Lewis is soon to be one of the best defensive players out in the NFL history. Lewis totaled over 1,000 tackles over his career. He is only getting better and will improve every game in my opinion.
In 1996 when he was playing for the Cowboys and Reds he felt miserable, he said, ”After scoring touchdowns and dancing in the end zone, after a stadium full of cheering fans had finally gone home, I was still empty inside.” Nothing was making him happy, he tried money, women, and just about everything.

...y would argue that no other quarterback will be able to ever match his level of success. Even though he was interested in other sports as a young boy, it is crystal clear that he was supposed to play football. At six feet five inches and 230 pounds, we can assume that he would be a formidable opponent in any sport; but looks don't count. Actions are what count, and Peyton has certainly delivered in that department.

Soon after, the doctors discovered what was wrong. On February 2, 1998, he announced that he had Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis or PSC, a progressive liver disease. Without a transplant, his disease could of have been terminal. “A subsequent diagnosis of bile duct cancer precluded the transplant.” (Walter Payton Facts) He threw the first baseball at Wrigley Field for the Chicago Cubs in the spring of 1999, which would be his last appearance. He died on November 1, 1999 in Barrington, Illinois at the age of 45. His wife, mother, and children survived him. His funeral was at Life Chargers Church in Barrington Hills, Illinois.
Pete Rose nicknamed “Charlie Hustle” was a major league baseball player who played between 1963 and 1986. He broke Ty Cobb’s hitting record on September 11, 1985. “He finished the 1986 season and retired with record 4,256 total hits, 14,053 at bats in 3562 games played.” Pete Rose was on his way to the Baseball Hall of Fame. However, he was accused and investigated for gambling on baseball games while he was an active player and a manager. “In 1991 Pete Rose received a lifetime ban from baseball hall of fame
