Ray Lewis
What is a Role Model? A role model is someone that inspires you and someone that you are interested in learning more about. According to Studymode.com, Ray Lewis was born May 15, 1975 and is a linebacker who has played for the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL since 1996. Lewis has been selected to eleven Pro Bowls and been named an Associated Press All-Pro nine times. He won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2000 and 2003; he was the sixth player to win the award multiple times. He was also the second linebacker to win the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Award and the first linebacker to win the award on the winning Super Bowl team. Ray Lewis is a great NFL defensive man and has broken records throughout the history of NFL. Not once did he not give up or not try hard enough. He always tried and played at his best. Being the man that he is, he may have inspired men and young boys around the country to push themselves through each and every practice despite the pain they may have experienced the next day just to continue in the sport that they know and love.
Overcoming the past and extreme obstacles is nothing new to Ray Lewis. His past is filled with dark secrets that not just anyone could forget; therefore, he is my idol. Lewis’s legacy will be tainted by the events of January 31, 2000, for some. Early that morning in Atlanta, a brawl broke out, two were found dead, and Lewis, along with two others, was charged with murder the next day. Ray Lewis was charged for a murder in a bar. Ray Lewis was going through hard time during this innocent and his career. Lewis pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and Superior Court Judge Alice D. Bonner sentenced Lewis to 12 months' probation, the maximum sentence for a first-time o...

...ay Lewis led the ravens defense to a NFL- Best ranking in 14 major defensive categories including total yards allowed. Lewis missed two games due to an injury, but still recorded 103 tackles a personal best offive sacks. The ravens allowed just one 100-yard rush performance in the 14 games. Lewis played. Lewis was named AFC Defensive player of the week following his seven-tackle, one sack and three pass deflections. In 2007 despite the Baltimore ravens mediocre he earned his 9th Pro bowl nod in his 12th career. He finished the season with 120 tackles. As the years go by Lewis is getting stronger better and making his way to one of the best football players out there. Ray Lewis is soon to be one of the best defensive players out in the NFL history. Lewis totaled over 1,000 tackles over his career. He is only getting better and will improve every game in my opinion.
In 1996, Lewis was the first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens leading the team to a Super Bowl victory in 2000. Ray Lewis was named Defensive Player of the Year that same season. In 2013, Lewis led the Ravens to another Super Bowl victory and later
Ray Rice a former NFL running back who played for the Baltimore Ravens was caught brutally smacking his fiancee over, leaving her blacked out on the floor of a casino elevator taking place in Atlantic City. The footage leaked out world wide and the public created huge controversy over the coverage that continuously played a numerous of times on major news networks. Rice who was cut from the Ravens and suspended from the NFL after the release of the show down is now an unsigned free agent, searching for hope. Through shocking evidence and a glimpse into a professional football players life, I aim to examine how media created an entertainment brand out of the countless amount of times the video was aired, how the NFL handled the scandal, and how Rice strives to regain his identity.
Lewis, who was born in a time of rejection, shows that you can achieve your dreams if you want to. Even though he faced many road blocks to his career as a runner, he was still highly successful. He tried everything he could to make it happen, and in the end he did. He also showed how wrong people were of thinking that he was incapable because of his background. He completely changed racial barriers for the better in the sport’s world. Sadly, this wonderful person passed away on November 15, 2003, but that doesn’t mean his legacy doesn’t live on. Ray Lewis is an inspiring person who had a huge impact in the world just because of a simple dream, and that shows that everyone is capable of having an impact, if only you follow your dream.
In this educated person biography I chose to write about Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, an African American boxer contending for the middleweight championship of the world but was wrongly convicted of a triple murder at the height of his boxing prowess on June 17, 1966 in Paterson, New Jersey. He spent 20 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Rubin Carter was born on May 6, 1937 in Clifton, New Jersey. Ever since he was a young boy he had been a troubled youth in and out of boy’s homes and later in his teens started serving minor time in jail for petty crimes of theft and assault, though he later attributed this in his biography of not having parents or family to help him understand and deal with his problems at an early age. Rubin through the years had a tough time growing up on the hard streets and blamed race for many of his problems.
Who is your role model? My role model is Peyton Manning. He is a famous QB in the NFL. He has been to the Super Bowl four times and has won one out of those four visiting’s to the Super Bowl. The current 2016 visiting will be with the Carolina panthers.
“Baseball was made for kids, and grown-ups only screw it up.” This great quote by Bob Lemon is one quote I really took to heart. This quote right here is one of the reasons I decided to coach baseball. I’ve learned so much from this great game that it was time to pass my knowledge on to the kids, so that they could become successful student athletes.
Thesis: Professional athletes need to censor/behave themselves better in this media strong age. Organizing Sentence: It may be wishful thinking for our beloved professional athletes to be proper role models for kids; but some may say that athletes should still have an obligation to be role models on the grounds of always being on a public stage, the abuse of drugs and steroids kids bring on is largely because of what they see the professional sport heroes doing, and particularly the African-American race needs them as role models. I. Athletes are fully aware of how easily secrets can get out and into the public and with that public stage they are obligated to perform with class on and off the field. A. Michael Vick, yes everyone knows he was convicted of his own dog-fighting ring, the NFL reprimanded him setting a grounds that what you do off the field will also come back to you on the job.
The real problem with people such as Colin Kaepernick is they want to see change but don’t want to help make the change. Sure kneeling during the anthem is a great way to get people behind you and do the same thing, but what is that going to accomplish? All these athletes that once came from run down communities now live in gated communities with security, yet they will continue to say just how awful this treatment is. The solution is quite simple: these “American role models” could hang up the cleats and go out and try to help make the change. This change could include joining the police force, volunteering with local youth groups, raising money for poverty stricken communities, something for them to actually say that they are making a change.
When asked to define a hero, society responds by listing the attributes of their role model. A four year old boy may explain his insane theories on why Superman can fly, whereas a Christian may preach on the gift of Jesus Christ. Whether they are baseball players, or Goddesses, many share a similar compassionate, daring, wise, and bold nature. As a modern director, Steven Spielberg challenged the rules of entertainment, assisted the underprivileged and demonstrated a welcoming personality, allowing him to become known as one of history’s greatest directors.
Should professional athletes be role models for younger kids? I say yes because thousands of people watch them on television every game and anything they do gets them on sports news so if they set bad examples then the kids might do what they do because they look up to them. Athletes normally use there money for good use like donating to charities or foundations. Having good sportsmanship on the field will help to show kids that sportsmanship is key to being a good player. All in all professional athletes should be role models for all people because they look up to them and when athletes do bad things people will think it's okay for them to do it to.
Being a great football player is a hard task that many people try to reach in their career. A lot of football players fall short of this goal. A great football player is a person and leader who shows heart ,passion, and pride for the game. Someone who will put the needs of the team before his or her own is a great player. These are things that can be hard to find in a player and even harder to teach.
“’He looked me in my eyes and he told me he was going to kill me," the woman testified on July 15. "I was so scared I wanted to die. When he loosened his grip slightly, I said just, 'Do it. Kill me.'" This testimony was recorded about the famous professional football player Greg Hardy, whom was on trial for domestic charges. This is a perfect example on how professional athletes like Greg Hardy, should not be accounted on to be role models to the youth of our nation. It is believed in society that athletes are often the role models or even
What we don't hear as often is the triumph and success that an athlete can go through to become a better person something that a role model can teach. I think a great example of this would be Michael Phelps who is a role model for millions of people. However, there was a time when he was struggling with his own demons which cause him to make mistakes such as a DUI. He was immediately shunned by the public, stripped of endorsement, and criticized as how can a role model do something like this. I believe that this also shows us that we can be blinded by hero worship. We stop viewing athletes as humans who can make mistakes and think that they can do no wrong. However, when athletes do something wrong we are quick to judge them and leave them on the side. Most times not allowing them to explain or try to fix it. So, in conclusion, I I agree that athletes are role models and they should expect to be one, however, as fans and humans we need to forgive and allow the athletes to make mistakes and allow them a chance to fix their
In today’s time, professional athletes are seen as key figures to children and some teenagers. Children are of younger age and are easier to influence whether these influences be positive or negative. A child can be affected by many things an athlete does including their performance on the field, participation in charity events or advertisements, and their actions off the field. Professional athletes are able to go above and beyond the limit of what an average person can do and this is why some of them are remembered forever and looked up to as role models to younger people in particular. An athlete’s influence can be positive or negative
